@@Vnachi8 The Trees isn't so crazy if you recall Neil really liked to read a lo of science-fiction. One of the ones that still gets me is 'Closer to the Heart'. Really love that track and the sentiment it conveys.
Music means so much to me. In fact, watching Jamel took my already devoted love and respect for Rush to the next, next level. I wanted to say that I've had three absolutely torturous, heartbreaking moments in music: Jimi Hendrix dying (before I was born), Layne Staley finally succumbing to his demons, and Neil Peart just passing. It's so sad you almost don't want to admit it happened. The music world's GREATEST drummer of all time exists on this plane no longer. 🥺
@@oreally8605 We will have to wait and see. 🌌 When I like and respect someone, I wish them the best in this life and beyond. There are LOTS of people I hope to see in heaven. We may all be very surprised to see who joins the heavenly angel band. I'm looking forward to my turn!! ♡
Neil Peart is perhaps the most UNDERrated lyric writers of all-time. So deep, so well thought out. So wise. So beyond what 99% of others are writing about. This guy is genius with the drumstick AND the pen!
"Each of us A cell of awareness Imperfect and incomplete Genetic blends With uncertain ends On a fortune hunt That's far too fleet" Some of the most important lyrics ever written and sung with such importance.
You listen to a Rush song five times for the "first" time. You listen once for the drums, again to the guitar, then to Geddy's bass lines, once more just to the words, then put it all together for a masterpiece.
It makes me really happy to see someone enjoying Rush. My dad took me to see them in 2012 and it was the last time he did something like that with me before he passed away. Its my favorite band and seeing you enjoy it just feels really good.
When you first hear them, you don't think there would only be 3 members. The singer plays bass and keyboards too. Sometimes playing live, while he is playing keyboard parts, he plays synth bass with foot pedals. Neal Peart, one of the best rock drummers, also writes the lyrics. They ended the band last year, after being together for 50 years. When they first started out, playing in bars, they would cover Zeppelin songs, because Geddy Lee's voice was so high.
You forgot pedals. He also plays bass pedals when he's on the keys, so that the bass doesn't just drop out of the mix. So he's actually doing four things sometimes; singing, keys, bass, and bass pedals, and often three of those at once.
Rush = provided us some of the greatest musical achievements EVER...all three of them are masters of their instrument! Have fun going down this rabbit hole...it's fun to watch!
I absolutely enjoy your pure enjoyment of diff genres of music. I do too......but I HAVE BEEN A MAJOR RUSH FAN FOR A LONG LONG TIME. RIP NEIL PEART. BEST BEST DRUMMER WHO EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
Loads of rush songs and videos down the years, but there is only 1 video to sit back relax and enjoy Neil peart's 30 anniversary drum solo, 1 of the most famous drum solo's of all time, sit back and take it in, saw Neil peart for the first time back in 1976, he's still a living legend. Love your videos love the look on your face how much you enjoy your music.
The timing changes and lyrical complexity are a hallmark of RUSH, and are so expertly done that you wonder wether or not they're really just wizards. Like, seriously, WIZARDS.
Rush was all over the rock stations in Detroit Michigan in the late 70's, early 80's. There was a locker room attendant at the Patton Park pool that would blast RUSH, The B52's, Blondie, The Romantics, The J Giels Band, Kool & the Gang, Parliament, George Clinton & the P Funk All Stars, Bob Seger, Van Halen, Ted Nugent and others. Yet new rock, new wave, fusion & funk were our favorites. That was a good time to be 12 years old.
In the same way that your journey with Led Zeppelin shines a light on certain aspects of rock, Rush shines another light on different aspects of it. All 3 of them are tremendous musicians, and combined they make a sound that really can't be duplicated by anyone. I'm not one of those Rush superfans that will tell you they're the greatest band in history (that would be my brother), but they are certainly *one of* the greatest bands in history. That it took until 2013 for the Rock and Roll HoF to induct them was practically criminal.
Welcome to an entirely new world of music that is called.... Rush. ;-) So much to explore with different eras and styles as they evolved. Some of their latest work is less well known but I think some of their best work, before sadly retiring in 2015. But their legacy is undeniable. Welcome to Rush!
Only 3 members in the band. Geddy lee on bass and vocals, neil pert lyrics and drums, and alex lifeson on guitar. This is my favorite rush song. Glad you came across it.
My 1st rock concert. I was in middle school & it was amazing!! My best friends older brother loved Rush, so his music tastes influenced us. Seeing your reaction was so fun.
Just me saying after listening and buying their albums over 40 years and see them multiple times I can tell you was the absolute#1 drummer each of the members of Rush are highly rated by their peers for their ability to play their instruments
The middle section is probably one of the most intense in all of rock.... I was 19 when I first heard that song in 1992. I was hooked on Rush for years after that.
Listen to Alex Lifeson rip through all his solos and goes right back into the song with ease....Rush was so good at creating songs with so many changes and time signatures that you couldn't get bored. Alex is a force in this three man band and is always forgotten about. He is the thread of almost every Rush song and real Rush fans just waited for the next great guitar piece and solo....a true genius on guitar and I would say he is in the top 5 guitar players for sure if not the best......thanks Alex for every song and for being so humble. Great reactions and thanks for being so respectful.
Geddy Lee, can you imagine anyone even attempting to do karaoke to Free Will - probably impossible. So incredibly unique, truly a copyrighted type of voice and singing style. Awesome writing & performance.
@@stevenwolven9367 Hopefully you've seen or heard Rush cover "The Seeker" by The Who. Also even though The Who didn't write the song "Summertime Blues" Rush performs it in Who-style when they perform it live.
There are 2 songs that I feel Rush just said "Oh, you think YOU'RE good? Hold my Labbats." La Villa Strangiato and Freewill. The solo section in Freewill is all 3 of them going COMPLETELY the f&*k off. Absolutely brilliant musicianship.
Ok. Maybe a few. Losing It Open Secrets Cygnus X-1 The Camera Eye New World Man Hemispheres Natural Science Different Strings Subdivisions That's long enough. Dude, they have a library of amazing songs with very deep lyrics.
Dude, my wife and I are life~long rush fans and this is the third time we’ve watched you react to them. You don’t know us but we love you, lol. It’s a most excellent feeling to watch peoples faces when they see or hear in these cases, for the first time, Rush’s best. I don’t know if you have seen their drummer’s (RIP) Neil Peart) drum solo from the R40 dvd videoed in Frankfort Germany, but if you haven’t you might just Shiite your pants. Thanks brother, keep up the good work!!
This is almost objectively Rush’s flagship work. Best song. Best representation of who they are, what they stand for, what they can do, all in one song. And the song is fucking flawless. Unreal.
This is all of 3 men. Guitarist Alex Lifeson has said that this was possibly his hardest guitar solo as most of the time he solos over some kind of rhythm and can root the solo to it, but here Geddy is also soloing and Neil keeps throwing in his filld. Essentially an "everybody solo" situation. Rage Against the Machine is reuniting for Coachella 2020. I thought this should have been on Renegades, their album of cover songs.
Love your channel! Somebody probably already told you but the late great Neil Peart also is the lyricist of Rush's music. The man had deep genius on the drums and in his mind
Perfect reaction. Brings back so many great memories. Every song is an adventure with this band. Picking your favorite RUSH songs is like choosing your favorite flavor of ice cream. It’s all good. Please listen to more RUSH. ✌️
I will never forget hearing that on the radio for the first time! Prior to the "Permanent Waves" album, from which this song comes, Rush wasn't on the radio very much (they had two singles prior, but not much else). But when this album came out, they started getting lots of airplay, between this and "Spirit of the Radio". I was getting ready to go to school (High school) and it came the radio and I freaked out! Then...when I heard that guitar solo section I just FELL OUT!! The world totally changed for me that day! My favorite band was finally on the radio! :)
I was 15 in 1975 when the guy I was seeing turned me on to Rush. I never heard anything like it. Eventually, I was sold. He turned me on to Bowie, and Alice Cooper. I'm so grateful!!!
beta max I was lucky enough to go see them in Birmingham in the UK in 1989 for the stuff that ended up in the Show Of Hands videos. Pretty sure you can see my hands too, if you squint and have an active imagination... they were so brilliant I went back -150miles from where I lived at the time and had just got home to about 6hrs after the show ended - the next day without a ticket for the gig or any pre-booked method of getting there. I just jumped a bus for hours, bought a ticket outside and went AGAIN! 😎😎👍👍
Everyone raves about Neil's skills behind the drums and it is deserved. He was a grandmaster. But truth be told...Geddy is a supreme bass player as well as vocalist. And Alex is one of the best (all be it underrated) guitarists in all of rock and roll. All three guys are truly amazing musicians!!
I seen a documentary on music once, and they said to have a successful 3-piece band, every member needs to be " up to snuff". Rush was up to snuff times 1000!
Just three guys. And some of the most talented men in the business. Neil on those drums. You have to watch something with him playing live. His massive drumsets.
I always like the radio hits by Rush, but that all changed when I saw them live. The 3 of them were one of the best and loudest I have ever heard. Rush and Tool are the best in transitioning ever.
Running through all your Rush songs tonight Jamel.....love how you are touched by the lyrics....50 year old lover of music. I dig your channel for the last 3 years! Keep it up!!!
Neil Peart became their second drummer on theirsecond album "Fly by night". They were also looking for a lyricist and Neil being well read also tookn over and wrote everything afterwards. And, the rest as they say is history.
You rock man. You got to remember these guys were always smoking weed, especially Alex, the guitar player and his quite open about it even to this day. Hemispheres, my man, listen to that and thanks for listening to the greatest nerd band who defied all odds. They did it their own way. Thanks buddy!
