My favorite Rush song. Reminds me so much of my Dad. He died from cancer a few years back and he absolutely loved Rush. I feel so blessed that I got to see Rush with him before he passed. R.I.P Pops Edit: wow, thanks for all the likes and kind words y'all ❤️🤘
@@danbardos3498 thank you. But you know, shit just happens. You mourn and then you pick yourself up and keep going. Life will put a lot of weight on your shoulders one day and you have to make the choice whether or not to press on, or let it weigh you down.
@@vxCrusaderxv : There are subgenres of the time they Rush taps into. Two artists can share the genre of a period while simultaneously being sufficiently original that we would not likely say one sounds like the other. Haydn and Bach are clearly both writing is a romantic style while sounding distinct. 1981 Rush is distinguishable from 1977 Rush, while remaining distinctively Rush.
@@zapazap what other artist at that time sounds like Rush? Rush certainly wasn't sounding like any other. Rush was ahead of their time in the 70s and 80s.
@@vxCrusaderxv : am not saying that the Band sounded like other bands. I am saying the band and adapted (and transformed) styles and aesthetics of the times tjey moved through. I emphasize *transformed*.
Having the car is illegal, he takes a ride of freedom, illegally while the law chases him. That WAS an instrument making that sound! Lol i knew you would like this one too!

Joseph Clark Seems like it’s gonna be based on OUR future. I can totally see a future where single piloted, gasoline burning cars are illegal. You know damn well some old timers’ll have a Dodge Hellcat or Porsche GT3 hidden under the barn & just rip the hell outta that thing every once in a while.
The 80's was the greatest time for rock n roll, metal period so many great concerts, so many great bands, my favorite part of my life, I'm 53 years old and the 80s were amazing 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻☠️☠️👍👍👍
I'm 52. Started my teenage years in 1980. Kids today don't know what fun is! The music was incredible and summers seemed to last forever. Man I miss those days!
47 here. 80's were undoubtedly the best decade hands down. Best pro sports, best movies (Carl Reiner and similar style movies) and THE BEST ALL AROUND MUSIC EVER! Moving pictures with Red Barchetta, my fav Rush song, brought it in in style.
Jim, you hit it on the head! I am 53, admit I had a mullet back then, lol!!! But the best musicians who could actually sing and play an instrument were from the 70,80 rock bands. Rush, triumph,April wine,38 special, bad company, eagles, heart, dio etc!!! Simple!
Reminds me of a short story we would have read in English Lit class back in high school. The only song that paints a visual picture better is Springsteen's "Jungle Land".
I am a rash fan of 38 + years... this guy is really getting the experience and really putting it together. There is much more, I love his videos, they make me smile on Rush, I get a huge kick out of you really enjoying this...I've taken so much crap for loving this band in the past its refreshing to see others see what I do and hold value to it. Thanks
I'm sure there's something else I should be getting done this weekend, but I can't stop watching these Rush reactions. Your amazement and appreciation for these songs is like reliving hearing them for the first time.
So true! I watch all Rush reactions online. It's great to see so many first-timers immediately see the gulf of talent between Rush and everyone else; especially today's mainstream artists.
Im sitting here with other pages open to things i need to do. Pay bills, order a transmission for my broke ass honda, and Im here enjoying Jamal's adventure into Rush discovery. Lol just realized i havnt made myself dinner yet either. Totally worth it.
My impression has always been, the first car sound is a pic drag on the guitar and the second is again a pic drag with a gradual pitch shift with either Alex using a pedal or Geddy using the pitch shift wheel on one of his synths.
Also check out their DVD “Time Machine, Live”, they play the entire Moving Pictures album. I attended the concert and it was so friggin’ awesome! I especially love the intro videos at the beginning and at the second half of the concert.
I heard for the first time just a couple of years ago. Even though I have been a fan for decades. Time, budget, or life always kept my music library limited.
Along with the constraints mentioned by Connor, mainstream FM classic radio is to blame. They wouldn't know a deep track if it bit them on the ass. Those who do are forbidden to play them since deep tracks aren't on the approved list. For that reason it is the responsibility of those of us who know our shit to pass our knowledge on to the youth that truly love the history of the music that we lived.
@@guillermo3564 in the late eighties/early nineties, a station in Tampa started. It was/is 98rock. When it started, they had actual disc jockeys choosing and playing a list. They would also play entire sides and albums. It was one of the last stations to do this kind of programming, and it killed it's competition.
This is one of Rush's best tracks. I can't think of another song that SOUNDS more like what it's about than this. You can hear the hard shifts, the squealing tires, the soaring engine without the lyrics.
I remember the first time I listened to this song,I had just smoked a little hash and had my headphones on and my mind was blown away, this song and the spirit of the radio are my favorite Rush songs Having headphones on and smoking a little hash was the only way to listen to music from"the day" I really miss those days,I'm 54 now and dealing with Leukemia, but I still have my headphones and wished that I could find some"hash" and relive those days
One my favorite Rush songs. When I was young, I joined the Air Force and was stationed in Spain ( Torrejón Air Base), and I would take out one of my albums, often Rush, put it on the turn table, crank up the volume on my Kenwood Super-Eleven receiver, and my big ol' pioneer cabinet type speakers would this for all to hear. This was 1980-1982. Damn. It feels like a lifetime ago.
"The song describes a future in which many classes of vehicles have been prohibited by "the Motor Law". ... The song was inspired by the futuristic short story "A Nice Morning Drive", by Richard Foster and published in the November 1973 issue of Road and Track magazine Yep...The car sound was done by Geddy. The bass lines in this song are amazing. They are melodic and not just keeping rhythm. Peart on the drums is a percussionist and adds dimensions to the music, not just keeping the beat. Alex as always is a monster on the guitar and everything just fits perfectly. Whenever I hear this song, I just want to go on a long drive in my convertible to anywhere. :)
Your appreciation for Rush helps me remember my original falling into love with them 15 years ago (yes, I was late!), thank you for continuing to try new tracks from them!
@@4juno Grace Under Pressure is one of the most under appreciated albums of all time. Between the Wheels and The Body Electric are two of the best songs Rush ever did imo
This is literally one of the best rock albums of all time imo. Rush was the soundtrack of my life during highschool and im 24! If you havent already check out some of their longer EPIC songs (20 min each at least) like 2112 and The Fountain of Lamneth and Cygnus X Book one and two! you will FOR SURE love them!
Dude you’re awesome. You made my entire night. Tuned into lots of your videos after I woke up with horrible nightmares. Turned it all around. Thank you for what you do.
Still one of my favorite Rush songs, especially when I go blasting through the countryside in my little convertible. Thanks for getting my day started off right Jamel!
It is so awesome to see you paying attention to the lyrics, especially with the Rush songs. It tells me that you want to get the full story. job well done. This is also one of my favorites, glad to see you doing it.
Thank you from this Rush fan! After hearing of the passing of Neil Peart, I was listening to Rush and came across your channel. You got it Jamel, how can three guys put out all that sound. I’ve listen to these guys sense 1974, went to 3 of their concerts, WOW!!! Again thank you!
Darlin, I just found you! Thank you for your honest candor, your humor and love for all music! As a musician, I know that all music evolves constantly; jazz, blues, hip hop, rock, punk, country... Thank you for doing these and sharing your love of music and broadening everyone’s musical horizons ♥️
The song is about a young man who lives in a time when combustion engine automobiles have been outlawed. His Uncle has a house outside the city where he hides a Red Barchetta which is a nickname for Enzo Ferrari's Little Red Boat, the 1948 Ferrari 166MM. A small two seat race car with a tiny 1.5 liter V12 engine. In his time it is a crime to own and operate a car like this. The young man being born out of his time.
I was a ninth grader in 1981 when I saw this tour my second ever concert. I only knew a couple of songs of theirs I can assure you my reaction was one of amazement. 34 years and 20 more Rush shows later I’m thrilled all over again seeing you and others discover them. Thanks!!
@@DTWC yeah the only Rush that really sounds a little dated is their mid 80s albums when they used a lot of synthesizers and keyboards which were a big thing at that time with many bands
Jamal, I just found your videos last night. Watching your reactions takes me back to when I was an 80’s kid myself. Great to see you enjoying great musicianship! Peace.
JaDem I’ve always hated that Alex never really gets the credit he deserves as a guitarist. Don’t get me wrong I love Geddy and Neil but they’re always put on a pedestal when compared to Alex when I totally believe Alex is on the same level as both in terms of technical ability. Alex is the Guitarist that got me to pick up a guitar and start learning to play.
Montrose's song, "Bad Motor Scooter," the 🎸 sounds like a bike taking off! The lead singer actually was the singer for Van Halen, after they regrouped, taking Eddie Lee Roths place.
Also Hagar, Schonn, Aaronson, and Shreve; Chickenfoot (awesome supergroup) and the Circle as well as a solo career that spans the decades. Sammy is the man!
Check out RUSH'S YYZ. Oh my goodness, I can't even explain it it's amazing. I believe YYZ is on the same album if I'm not mistaken. Please please please please listen to YYZ

Wow, man! I wish there was an excellent button for your reaction. Your pure emotional reaction brings me joy and excitement to my soul to have you experience what I experience almost 40 years ago when I was 15(mind blown). Great work my friend. FYI, “Rush” and “Judas Priest” are my best live performances in almost 40 years of concert going. I saw Rush 3 times, the last time being their next to last tour. Rush was my 2nd concert ever in 1981. Thanks for reading my comment. GBY.
Keep up with the Rush! Love all your reaction vids but thoroughly enjoy watching others get turned on to my favorite band. So many different styles, sounds and textures over 40 plus years and yet still undeniably a sound all their own. They don’t sound like anyone else and no one sounds like them. Keep em coming! Also, might I suggest the following tracks? Losing it from the album Signals, What you’re doing live from the album All the worlds a stage, Jacobs Ladder live from the album Exit Stage Left and Between the wheels from the album Grace Under Pressure. That’s a nice cross section of Rush for various stages of their ever evolving sound.
Grew up on RUSH. They were like food and water to me. So cool to watch new generations like you being introduced to one of the greatest bands ever. Keep on rockin'.
I see Rush, I watch. Also, please react to the live version of YYZ with the drum solo from a show of hands tour, I know you've seen YYZ live but this drum solo is such a defining moment in my eyes for neil peart to help solidify him as the best of all time.
I have been a fan of Rush since 1975, when I was only 8 years old ... Never, I repeat, never seen reaction to the band's songs so spontaneously and vicerally ... Congratulations brother!
Great name. I feel the same about my Miata. When all the battery trash inevitably fails my ICE will not be bothered. But "Black Barchetta" would have to be mine if it was called that haha
New subscriber. I think you would be doing yourself a service by looking into Ronnie James Dio. He will probably be on any shortlist for greatest 70’s-80’s metal lead-singer. I’m pretty stunned you haven’t checked his stuff out yet. Part of his legend was his short stature. He was 5’4 but he had an IMMENSELY powerful voice. He headlined several iconic metal bands so the list I have for you will have different band names. I do believe you aught to listen and react to his work. Here are my suggestions: “The Last In Line” - Dio “Stargazer” - Rainbow “Holy Diver” - Dio “Stand Up And Shout” - Dio “Gates Of Babylon” - Rainbow His music videos can be pretty distracting. I would advise just watching the videos that are only an image of the album cover. Live Performance: “Dio - Rainbow In The Dark (Live The Spectrum 1984)”
I love that you reacted to this song! This is one of their best songs and underrated a bit I think. By the way, you should react to By Tor and the Snow Dog. They use instruments in a way that will absolutely love.
You're the best at what you do. So many others would just listen to the song. You read the lyrics. You appreciate the lyrics. And the music. With your videos, it is as if I'm playing the song to someone who I think would appreciate it as much as I do. And you do. I love your reaction videos, and I love listening to this music with you.
This whole album is 🔥🔥🔥! The first Rush song I ever heard was Tom Sawyer and I ran out and bought the album - ON VINYL!! - and had to replace it a year later due to overplaying it! Totally great - not a bad track on the album! Signals is another good one. Came out as the next album after Moving Pictures - check it out!!
So glad to see some Rush love. Glad it’s being dug. And their musicianship was always tight along with thought-provoking lyrics. 3 of the BEST rockers ever!
Aww man, this song and moving pictures album brings back so many memories of being a young kid in the early 80s. My uncle who is 9 years older than me, and has become more like a brother than a uncle got me this cassette and I believe the REO high infidelity album( and by the way another great album to review) for Christmas of that year it came out, and since then Rush is still one of my favorite bands, seen them multiple times, with my uncle. Keep up the great reactions Jamel 🤘🤘🤘🎸
Totally Agree, By Tor and Snow Dog from Exit Stage Left with the video in the background. Kinda gives it a sort of comic book/ story telling feel. Would also recommend Cygnus Books 1 and 2. I got to see RUSH in Kansas City during the Hemispheres tour. They did both Cygnus, By Tor, and 2112 with some other song fill ins. LOL Great Show!!!!
