@FelipeKyo he was going to shoot him and tell law enforcement that he fell on the floor as if it were a freak accident that took the mans life and not him being shot by carter.
Don Cheadle spoke better Cantonese than the other Hollywood actors of the next 20 years. The guy clearly put in effort to get the intonation right. Mad respect to him
@アラシMa Yeah was going to say. Given martial art styles ( Whushu ) where passed from father to son and given brothers of " twisting tiger " trained both men they would know what the other went threw to learn said style so a mutual respect bond would be present.
Nah bro, that's how it works in the martial arts world. Every style has the fundamentals and proper form. The rest are the personality you give it when you apply techniques to meet certain needs. That's why you have such variation of execution for each art. Personally, I was never taught to show your back to the opponent, but I know other practitioners like to add twists as it opens up a low sweep or maybe an ankle lock, or a hand strike like what they picture here. That Twisting Tiger with the spiraling hands is actually a very prominent Jackie Chan technique that not a lot of other martial arts actors use. It looks like a blend of Wushu and Wing Chun. It's something I almost always look for in a Jackie Chan movie (he didn't do it in The Foreigner as far as I remember, though).
For those who don't know, Don Cheadle takes his craft very seriously, if he agrees to a role, he puts in the same effort whether it is large or small. He said he would do the scene but there were 2 stipulations, he learned chinese and spoke with the proper dialect, and when he fought Jackie he didn't lose or win. He did this for a small cameo fee and .25 percent of the gross profits
For a cameo before he was even big? I find that hard to believe. His only two big time credits up to this point are colors in 88 and boogie nights in 97. He didn’t become big until a few years after this.
@@TonyDanza4Lyfe This is a Brett Ratner film, and they had worked together previously in “The Family Man”. Hence why Jeremy Piven also has a small role, as does Saul Rubinek (he played the blackjack dealer in the casino scene). Actors will often do small roles on a director’s subsequent film for cheap as a thank you.
@@TonyDanza4Lyfe he was in Meteor Man as the villain. Co starred in Volcano and Out Of Sight around the same time as RH. And I'm sure at the time he was probably already working on Oceans 11 and Traffic. He was a name in Hollywood for sure around this time.
People don’t know .25 of 1% of $347M is literally $867,500… not exactly a ton here and the projection of $150-$175M is half of that… Chris Tucker got paid $20M per movie
"You come up in here, you don't show me no badge. You didn't even flash a warrant! You know what I'ma do for you? I'ma whoop yo ass... and then I'ma whoop *yo* ass!"
Brilliant writing. Carter’s bullying tactics weren’t going to work here, but the respect martial arts students have for their masters were an instant connection between Lee and Kenny. It’s amazing how much people open up when respect and honor get involved
Especially as it wasn't just the fact that they were martial artists, but that they were martial "siblings" within the same style. Within the martial arts world that is a very old fashioned but powerful bond in the styles that still emphasize it.
@@bw-mi9xp The official chinese language is mandarin, but China is filled with many dialects. One popular dialect spoken mainly in the province of Guangdong, which includes places like Hong Kong, is cantonese. Cantonese is what jackie chan and don cheadle were speaking here.
As someone who comes from a martial art background , as students we make an attachment to our masters and have much respect for their teachings and lessons . To see that someone else comes from the same connection to our masters , we show respect immediately because our action represent our masters teachings .
@@FalconWindblader lol. Maybe he does know. Who knows. Cuz that accent if I only heard audio would have mistaken for a dam native and I am american born and dont speak cantonese.
It's because the moment they entered the back, his hand was already on it but noticed his finger was off the trigger. Chris Tucker apparently was taught well enough.
you are embarrassing me in front of my wife and front of my kids. Chris:You're embarrassing yourself,You a black man with a Chinese restaurant on Crenshaw.Thats funny!
I mean if you're going to have a loud and quick mouth you might as well have quick hands cuz you never know when someone will get pissed off at you enough to want to shoot you
Yup, Kung-fu movies were a big thing for young black Americans after the civil rights movement since they never really saw one of their own in movies and on TV, so Asian actors like Bruce Lee were kind of like a better alternative than seeing white people all the time. I believe this was sort of like a collective inspiration for Don Cheadle's character in this movie, which in turn was Kendrick's inspiration. Crazy right?
"So detective Carter and Lee came up in my restaurant looking for counterfeit bills and I pulled out a hunnit out of the safe and said 'BOOM, are you looking for this?!?'"
This scene's blooper was golden. Tucker called Jackie's character as jackie and cheadle just lost his shit having to reshoot again "HIS NAME IS LEE GODDAMMIT" 😂😂
I love how a Black man from LA and a man from China bond over martial arts. We humans find connections everywhere. It's heartwarming to see. Also, that Don Cheadle? He looks like a kid in this!
@@essayibcs8528 This is true even in real life dipshit, fighters come from all over the world to compete against one another, you can't be this big of a dipshit, but then again here you are...
@@seriesreview3838 Hav... Have you not heard of the movie: "Hotel Rwanda"? If not, it's a good movie based on the Rwandan genocide. And Don Cheadle plays the main character, the manager of a hotel in Rwanda.
@@FernandoMartinez-jl3us Fun Fact: The Greatness of Chris Career is improv most his movies weren't on script and eventually the directors just let him rock out!! Gave him a baseline of the scene and just let'em GO💯🐐
Dudes not underrated. He already won a golden globe, an emmy and a sag award. Nominated for an academy. Hell...he even won a grammy. He is definitely one of the most versatile and best actor but not underrated. Everyone knows how good he is.
if kenny had attacked he would have been faster, he just put his hand up and got in a stance while exhaling sharply. still a nice draw but he was waiting for it hard after kenny took of his glasses.
@@stantondinger5836 if what you said is true, then it is kinda wasted because he was indeed impressive! Nevertheless, he had Jackie Chan to thank for making him who he is, courtesy of the Rush Hour trilogy.
Carter's competence is vastly underrated. He's actually a damn good cop. He always get the job done and he's extremely dangerous with a gun. The guy never misses a shot and I don't think he's ever lost a shootout
Yeah and apparently the callback went over Don Cheadles head he completely missed the reference. He couldn’t tell why Kendrick was dressed like that in the music video.
Probably had a voice coach and worked real hard to get the few lines right. From what I have read, even harder than Mandarin; more tonal. But thanks for answering was wondering about the quality of his accent.
