I still can't believe it... It is impossible... My drum and lyrics guru is dead😥😥😥I cry and I'm in mourning😪😪😪Condolence for the family, friends and all fans of Rush😓😓😓R.I.P Neil... My Brother🧡🧡🧡
I feel you I wish my best hopes on all of his friends and family my sorrows I feel can’t compare to their’sBut I still hurt because I love him. the best drummer in the world
Say what you will and I know we have our favs but I havent seen anyone that did it better in my lifetime (Im 62). Thanks for the music and the memories Neil, Alex and Geddy.
My biggest RUSH honor was having two extra tickets to a show. I called everyone. I then instructed my girlfriend to drive to an old, life long friend who used to watch my band play RUSH songs as a kid. I knocked on the door 1 hour before the show "Hey man!!" he said. "What ya doing tonight" I asked. "Nothing" he answered. "You are now" as I handed two tickets. I later saw him and friend in the crowd. Smiles. He died 12 weeks later from pancreatic cancer. Still jerks a tear today. (Time Machine Tour)
That’s a good memory my friend. I’m happy he was Alive and Ready to receive the Tickets. I would like to believe he got to meet Neil in Person, where ya Can meet a stranger like was long awaited, where no one walks away from meeting their Drum/Band Hero unhappy…
I often say that if I were to die and go to the good afterlife, I would want to go to the one with all the good animals as opposed to the good people. Neil makes me think the opposite.
@@joan-annebross9217 Stanley Clarke was playing it as a lead in Return to Forever before Rush, Jack Cassidy from Jefferson Airplane, Jack Bruce, Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins, Chris Squire were pushing lead bass before Geddy but Geddy is awesome too
He never stopped learning or trying to improve. It’s what made him one of the best, if not the best ever. May you Rest In Peace, Neil Peart. You will never be forgotten.
I saw him perform a drum solo on this very stage on the Snakes & Arrows tour not even 20 feet from me. Closest I've ever been to a religious experience to a musical performance.
@@oz_media GUP was my first of 3 great shows Thank you Neil Geddy and not last or least Alerxt. Whose solos are still blowing my mind in 2020! And we can't forget Hentor. Hentor the Barbarian. He's last but also not least like Lerxt.
I never understood why people critique neils solos on youtube...you cant pick each change up apart and make any analysis. Neils solos are to be listened to from beginning to end and all you can should say afterward is WOW 😮.
Exactly, it's orchestrated and has layers. Show me another drummer that had superior leg/arm independence like this. He can play one beat with his hands and play different with his feet. He's not the fastest but he's one of the best composer the drumming world ever had. He's your favorite drummer favorite drummer.
I'm still convinced that Neil, Alex, and Geddy are not from this planet. There's just no way only 3 guys can make the music they made sound so incredible. Pure genius..........
BINGO! That IS the trademark of Peart's percussion. It's like multiple machine guns firing in quasi-sonic synchronicity with flashes of motor fire and cluster bombs exploding around his kit all the while, sprinkled with the sound of falling shrapnel. The 'Professor'? CLEARLY, one of a kind of all time
The only thing is is Neil didn’t believe in God and he used his influence to “inspire” others via music, to express why he felt that way. Neil has been my favorite drummer for decades but there’s so many different things to write about. Why religion. His spiritual relationship (or lack there of) was his business so I never understood why he wrote about it so frequently unless it was to influence others into thinking the same way.
Was at this show, beauty weather. First DW set for Neil and the last we see of wind chimes used as well. Also first use of Roland V Drums iirc. Weeks later as others have noted, his daughter died in that single car accident. I was up north at the girlfriends parents house near Owen Sound, Ontario. I drive to the nearest town on an early Sunday morning to get the Toronto Sun newspaper. Got back, brewed some coffee, went out to the deck, dead quiet as others were sleeping. Sat down, lit a smoke and read the news in the entertainment section about Selena dying. Not going to lie, I shed tears reading that. Others woke up around then and wondered what was up. Girlfriend knew I was a huge Rush fan so she understood but the others did not. Sad day for Rush fans. And then his wife died 10 months later. Truly aweful for any person to go through, losing your entire family so quickly. Just thought I would share. Life can be short so be nice to people as it can all end in a heartbeat.
Thank you Neil. Thank you Alex. Thank you Geddy. We love you so much - and you know it. That is why you have always been so humble - so professional because you know how much we - your loyal fans over the years that has placed you where you will always be, as the money making corporations were quick to dismiss you as a curiosity risk. You have never forgotten - never - why you are where you are. It is us - your fans - who has always seen you for who you are. There are not many bands on this earth who can say that it is their fans who placed them in halls of greatness as opposed to greedy promoters who wanted to tell us what what we appreciated. It is your music and your heart that will echo through the time of future fans yet to be who will truly appreciate RUSH. We thank you for all you have given us - and we "know" - you thank us for all we have given you. Enjoy your retirement - no-one has genuinely earned it more than you. May God bless you all and your families and God's speed. No-one needs to tell you three unassuming boys from Canada how much the world loves you for all you have given us. Thank you
Even though Neil has exited stage left he has left permanent waves by caressing the steel cymbols and making mystic rhythms in both hemispheres making an impact bigger than the Manhattan project. Farewell to the king! See you in 2112!
Tony Dompier neil rolled the bones quite often as he knew time stands still for no one. he was the greatest working man and by far not a fly by night drummer. from a show of hands, he will be missed by many. rest in peace under the trees and and don’t wander into the twilight zone.
+Hamse This show was about 2 months before Neil's daughter would die in a single-car accident. 10 months later, his wife would die of cancer. Needless to say that this changed his life forever.
Just shows how your life can change in an instant, all part of Gods plan and Niel is an inspiration to NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER GIVE IN - just work harder!! Love you Niel!
And millions loved him. Or the him he made available. Thanks for sharing your light Neil. You are truly missed. He'd probably say "Who the heck are you talking to? "
Maybe but he is like a surgeon on the drums. I am so lucky to have seen them perform in their R-40 tour. He is also a talented writer and has several books to his credit and he is very well read. Not likely to see another like him for quite a while. Do a search for his solo that has a 360 drum set an he changes to like 6 different stations and perform approx 6 different styles in one solo. The man is epic.
And he would be the last one to agree with anyone calling him "the best." The man is a consummate professional. During their active years he always would reach out to other percussionists to ask "how." A maestro with humility and an ongoing thirst for betterment. Truly no one like Neil.
The most insane thing about this, is how much control the man has. One foot keeping a simple two note beat, and the rest of him doing all sorts of different time changes, and passages around the kit. Incredible.
Even his hi-hat precision is astounding with ALL that going on. I've never seen any other drummer who's right handed HAVE a left hand as creative, powerful, and PRECISE....
Exactly! Everytime Neil heard or learned something new that he liked he would incorporate it into his solo, and he even said that the beginning of his solo for the Snakes & Arrows tour, was all improvised, he just played what he felt fit. RIP Neil, 2020 Sucks.
hard to imagine another drummer that can touch him in terms of creativity. These aren't drum 'solos' but drum compositions as he stated it in interviews. All three were just amazing to watch and on another level with talent
When Bohnam died on the day of me getting up to get 2 tickets to see Zep, I thought I would never have such a bad as day as that in my life. So many artists have proved that wrong, but nobody more that Neil. I love you Neil and I will miss you forever.
This was filmed just one month before Neils daughter died in a car accident. What have this man have to go trough in his life. Neil, I hope you are now reunited with your daughter and found your peace. You have dedicated your life to become one of the best musicians in the history and your legacy will be here forever and will bring joy and inspire others to do the same. Thank you.
This was Neil probably at his peak in terms of technique and dynamics - and yes, the tragedy that came just a couple months later and lasted for years. Rest in Peace Professor - you brought so much and inspired musicians in Canada and worldwide with your playing, your writing and especially your continual drive to improve. I hope there's a good place out there and you're getting to talk with all the great intellects of humanity and jam with the greatest musicians. Peace brother!
I meant to reply to you Steve Schreiner!!!! No one will never ever be able to play like Neil Peart!! He has the most complex drum patterns of anyone!! And plays with the most Endurance ever!! Playing for 2 straight hours every show so many days a week!Of the hardest hitting drummer of all time, and with the most Difficult Rhythmic patterns of any PROFESSIONAL DRUMMER OUT THERE!!!!! NEIL PEART DEFINITELY THE GREATEST EVER!!!!!
umpy Goodness no need to apply labels. Enjoy one or the other or both. Totally different styles and their own sound. And Peart is certainly no “poor man’s anything”. Has influenced a countless number of drummers. As has Palmer. Stop comparing. Not a competition.
The 3 members of Rush have more pure talent and skill than ALL of todays so called musicians put together! Having seen them live 5 times in my life they remain one of my all time fave bands (especially live) No other band of just 3 guys can produce a sound anything like this!
Watch the Mexican band the warning. 3 sisters rocking the hell out of it, they admmire Rush and Pink floyd, people say the drummer is gonna be Peart, Portnoy, Mangini and Moon in one person, and she's the lead singer in many songs lol
Geddy is one of most amazing musicians ever... couple that with Alex and his guitar virtuoso... and if that’s not enough...Neal is straight in the pocket freaking amazing, plus he wrote all the lyrics.... c’mon, best band ever! Oh, wait.. I forgot, they’re a fucking trio! Drop the mic!
It doesn’t matter, they are the best band ever. Geddy Lee Number one bassist of all time, Neil number one all time, and Alex #4 All Time, only behind number one Hendrix number two, Page, number 3 Eddie Van Halen!!
@@thomasandersondrums2260 I would like to believe this also, because Rush is my favorite Band and in my opinion the 3 of them are GOAT, however the experts think Page is better, and Page had stated that Hendrix is the GOAT , plus many other experts say Eddie Van Halen is the GOAT, but each guitarist plays in a different genre, so it is hard to compare
@@YedMan01 in what universe does Eddie even make the same list as Alex? Or page tank higher than Alex in actual talent, ability and productive creativity? I've seen them all live, watched hours of videos neither of those 2 come close to the
Buddy Rich died quite a while ago. Rush fans are so deluded on a mass scale. There are hundreds of Drummers in bands that I don't even like that are better Drummers. Drummers in genres like Slayer and Anthrax etc. are very technical Drummers, so was Neil, very technical, though you can't dance to it without looking like an epilectic. The Rhythm Guitar is meant to be in time with the Drums in Rock. In good quality Rock music the vocal patterns indicate when there are Tom Fills and Cymbal crashes. If I want a Drummer to be at odds with all the other instruments I'll listen to Jazz. I could list all the really great bands and Drummers, though I would be wasting my time. It's very difficult to explain to the musically illiterate people. Some of my favourite bands were/are Alternative, Independent, DIY artists that only released a few Singles and a couple of Albums, yet the quality was sublime. I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to a dull and boring band like Rush.
Alan Strom you stink and you cannot even spell Rush. Why are you here if your bashing the band? Been seeing these guys live since Roll the Bones. your opinion is disrespectful and absolutely not welcome here so You should Exit Stage Left.
Alan Strom sounds like someone’s jealous of Neil, as you should be, because he was 1000x the human being you’ll ever be. You’re the delusional one if you think the drummers from slayer and anthrax are better than Neil. There’s no way you can come close to Neil. And how is the band dull? They played hard rock in the beginning of their career, to more complex and technical pieces like la villa from hemispheres. And eventually they ventured to more electronic things like GUP. They’re the most well rounded prog rock band in existence, and easily the greatest band of all time. You sir, should leave.
@@alanstrom2221 I’m sorry Slayer & Anthrax suck imo, and Neil is way better then the drummers from those bands. Also, calling Rush dull is disrespectful, maybe you are deluded, and if you don’t like Rush, then why are you even watching this video and commenting?
@@mitchmaher & J Rock Thank You, this Alan Strom guy is just disrespectful, and I’ve never liked Slayer or Anthrax, and, imo, Neil is 10x better then their drummers, and I bet their drummers would say the same thing. Oh and @Alan Strom Which drummers do you think are better, Neil and Buddy or the drummers from Slayer and Anthrax, I’m going with Neil and Buddy.
I suggested to my wife (retired English teacher) to read his books. She was pleasantly surprised someone with a high school education was such a fabulous writer. The “power” of reading.
I would venture to say that Neil's IQ would register in the genius range despite being a high school dropout. All three of them are musical savants despite being self taught and not able to read sheet music. Pretty f'ing impressive
I once won tickets to a Blind Date - a beer company sponsored event where ticket winners didn't know who was playing. The concert was in a smallish club in Toronto. 700 people. When we got there we found out it was Rush playing. I got to stand right by the stage for the entire concert. I'm still in disbelief from how talented those three men are.
The man was a percussionist machine, not just a drummer, a percussionist musician!!! He will be missed by not only Rush fans, but by anyone who can appreciate writing, lyrics, great stories, and by all means of course, his epic phenomenal talent playing the drums!!! Rest in Peace Neil, we will forever be listening to and walking to your beat!!!
This has to be the baddest Jam session in the history of mankind No Lyrics but u never ever seen a band groove & gel together like 1body I mean they were in the POCKET sorry I’m just in awe of their performance and in mourning as well when the reality that Neil Peart has left Earth and transcended to his place were he belongs with the Stars in Heaven THE BEST EVER !
In a good and lengthy interview documentary, Geddy Lee refers to the old adage "less is more." He clarified that when you are Rush "More is more." He'll take what ever advantage he can of instruments and technology to create additional sounds on stage.
Neil had expanded his percussion techniques at this time and this is a great showcase of the great musician he was. Alex and Geddy were equally proficient musicians and songwriters which is what made them such a great band.
I am a man of 27 years. Grew up with hip hop, grime, drum and bass, house and tech music. I have recently become aware of the talents of Rush and this piece of music is amazing. The medley from 10:45 - 11:30 reminds me of a tech or jungle track drum beat and I would love to hear it mixed into one.
If I had half the talent of Neil, I'd be considered a legend. Dude had skills like no other and was humble about it. The world not only lost a legendary lyricist and drummer. It lost an incredible human being.
I was working at a hotel in Asheville in 2015, and who pulls up on his BMW! My gratuity for helping him check in was 2 back stage passes to their final performance in Toronto.
HOW!?!?! How in the hell was he able to remember all of this?!?!? I know his drum solo evolved over the years, but so much of this is just so dead on that it's unfathomable.
And when the Professor was done...he hopped on his BMW and shunpiked it to the next show. Much admiration and thanks to all three of you for sharing your talents with us for all those years. No matter how much Neil's passing leaves a void, we are much better people for it.
If Bonham is to drums what Jimi is to guitar, then Neil is to drums what Eddie is to guitar. Neil introduced a level of virtuosity to rock drumming that no one ever had before, and though there have been many drummers since who have pushed the technical envelope even further, none of them have Neil's creativity and sense of composition. Two months after his passing and I'm still watching or listening to him nearly every day...
Rush marcou minha adolescência , três caras incríveis e Neil era um super herói na bateria ... obrigada you tube por manter a memória viva dessas pessoas tão talentosas aqui pra gente . RIP Neil Peart.
Suddenly, you were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon. Neils words never so relevant as now. Listening to them so much now. Loving the music old and new.❤️
It's killing me inside. I can't believe Neil Peart is gone. Truly truly one of the all time inspirational greats. You will be sorely missed by millions.
@Frankincensed I feared that as well especially when Neil said publicly that even a bulldozer couldn't drag him from his house in Quebec. That's the bad news. The good news is that the house is equipped with a professional recording studio that he had arranged to install there. If you don't plan on keeping to play for the public you don't put that much money in such gear, instead you get yourself a small personal studio. Not saying that Rush would reunite there but it's possible that Neil plans on going solo with session musicians, sort of like Simon Phillipps did after leaving Toto. So there is hope we'll hear again from The Professor.
Neil Peart is the reason I play drums. Thank you for all the years of inspiration innovation. I never got to see you live and it's sad that you are retiring! Miss you already!
This guy was the Eddie Van Halen to drummers growing up in 70's and influenced a generation of Rock drummers of the possibilities of percussion in a rock context just like Eddie did for Guitar players. There was never an award big enough to represent the work he left us to study.
words can`t even describe how much I still like rush im 55 for god sakes. Listening to this on a good system is like loving it all over again and again...thanks RUSH for leaving good memories in my brain backup cells :)
Was at this show. Already LOVED Leave That Thing Alone, and they certainly didn't disappoint with that one...but then the drum solo...holy sh!t. I remember losing it when the drum rafter spun around...ALL HAIL THE PROFESSOR!! What a magical night!
This is one of my favorite Neil Peart drum solos to watch. His solos evolved over the years, There is just something about this particular arrangement that I really love.
I really think he deserves to be remembered as the greatest rock drummer of all times. Not only was an extraordinary musician, he was a good writer and an awesome person. I still don't believe he isn't among us anymore.
