One of the tracks missing on the original DVD release of R30 but present on the BluRay version, for your enjoyment! These are video files downloaded from the RUSH Official site section of the release of R40 set.
Alex Lifeson.... You are better than you even think you are. Just amazing. I've listened, watched you THOUSANDS of times. Every time I watch you again, I'm reminded how amazing you are. You don't get the credit you deserve. You're a bad-ass guitarist, a genius
82 times I saw this band, starting with AFTK in Baltimore in '77. Never saw a bad show ... nor even a mediocre one. Nothing but passion and excellence.
Me and a bass player have been having a go at YYZ and what is true for us, is that finding someone to do the guitar locally has proven to be near in impossible.....so Dave's point makes sense to me (it's amazing how many guitarists say "oh, Rush, no probs" until it's time to play and then suddenly they can't make the rehearsal ;) 😅 true stuff...
I think it says a lot about a band that after 40 years they can still enjoy playing on stage and actually enjoy playing together. I think this is one of the reasons why they were so successful, as well as being great musicians, they were also great friends.
I was thinking how great the "silly break" in the middle was. Like you said, so great to see them actually enjoying it still so much after all those years. Still alot of headshaking in disbelief on my part.
This clip is the perfect encapsulation of Rush: the God-poundingly tight musical proficiency, their obvious cameradie, love for each other, and often overlooked sense of humor. A priceless piece of footage. We will not see their like again. And l suspect this was the encore and maybe Alex had toked up a bit but my God, what a tour de force for him. You can put this performance by Alex up against any guitarist who ever lived. Yeah, l said it.
I look at these concerts and be grateful to have witnessed a master in his trade, a beautiful human being and a man who had the upmost joy with his lifelong friends.
yah... that three such geeky nerds who would have been almost lost without each other, managed to find each other, and band together, to make such brilliant noise... for so many millions to love... is still such inspiration to me... :) i don't like to think about people in terms of 'heroes/villains' so much these days, but... neil, alex, and geddy =are= heroes.
Greatest band that ever was. The joy they exuded when up on that stage was so fantastic. A group of friends jamming, no matter how big or small the stage.
USUALLY it's when he goofs up, lol. it happens to everybody. i remember the Presto tour in New Haven where he came out of the guitar solo in Freewill to the half time several bars early. Geddy and Alex spun around on him with a "HUH??" kind of look on their faces and Neil just pulled his head down into his shoulders with an "opps, i farted" grin on his face. the thing is, when gods mess up, it reminds us we're all human :-) RIP Neil. we miss you so much.
"THIS" is why we love RUSH!!!!!!!! To hell with the mainstream!!!!!!!! The world has spoken - loud and clear!!!!! We love you Alex! We love you Geddy! And now that he is gone; our hearts are broken for the loss of Neil and those closest to him. You are in our hearts - "Closer to the Heart" - and our prayers. May God comfort you in what we all know and share with you in this great sorrow and loss to mankind. You have been blessed to have been closer to him than us even though we wish we could have been. Just as much as Alex and Geddy. All of you are in our hearts and in our prayers. "Attention all hearts of the Human Federation - We have assumed control. We have assumed control. We have assumed control."
@@bluntforcetrauma1500 Thanks Carey - glad you appreciated it as I know all die hard - hard core RUSH fans will. When they said: "We have assumed control" - they weren't kidding because they did - and we were more than willing to let them! Long live RUSH! May their music forever Echo into eternity! God bless!
@@michaelgeisdorf6641 Thank you Michael, I appreciate your reply. This was a special band - very special - and I know that all RUSH fans who truly appreciated this band and their depth, and their genius, and all they gave, and everything about them as personal people individually, and how much they appreciated their fans in how much they supported them - will never be lost on Alex or Geddy - never! This was always personal with RUSH with their fans - as it is with us with them. There is not many bands that has that kind of personal impact with their fans as this one has enjoyed. I think that not many do today. I always knew that if just one of them was gone, or quit for some unbelievable reason - it was never going to be RUSH again. I am thankful they remained together for as long as we have been blessed with them. But RUSH now belongs to history as it should be - but my 21 year old son cut his teeth on them and was raised with them. Long Live RUSH!!!!!!! May God bless you and all you love.
Dan Campbell they were indeed special. I knew they were something special in 1977 when I got my first Rush album and heard 2112 for the first time. BLOWN AWAY! I listened to that album over and over and each new album that came out I’d “Rush out” to get the next installment. But it wasn’t until I was on a US Navy destroyer in the middle of the Mediterranean that I really appreciated Farewell to Kings and drowned myself in Xanadu that the extent of their talent really set in. At my first port of call I went looking for a record shop and bought Moving Pictures and thought that there was no way they could top the recent albums but man was I wrong. ......... Now I’m getting old and I am moved with emotion listening to their mastery wishing I had seen them more than just once live. They will be remembered as the most talented rock n roll band in history!!
Watching this yet again. Seeing Alex “singing” during LVS and seeing Neil and Geddy having so much fun. It really was 3 brothers by choice having a great time. Playing music with your 2 best friends and getting paid for it. Life does not get better. Thanks for sharing it with us.
That Bass during the second guitar solo in La Villa! Is one of the sickest, nastiest playing I've heard from Geddy. Jamming on older tunes like that was always a great treat at the show. I miss these guys.
I love how in the documentary they said it was one of the hardest songs to learn and play. But then play it live flawlessly. God i love Rush. Musical geniuses and the beat band of all time. They are also funny as hell thats a bonus
People are probably marveling at the musical proficiency of Rush, and how they can pull of La Villa Strangiato live, in concert, in front of a live audience, but I think the REAL question here is why did Rush decide to do their laundry wile performing a concert? I mean utilizing the hotel laundry service is something I think they could afford, or, at least, would be included on their rider.
There have been many great, legendary players of their respective instruments in rock and roll history. Here are three of them. IN THE SAME FUCKING BAND.
Growing up with RUSH was a great experience… I never missed a show since moving pictures…. It’s been a honor to have witnessed the musicianship with RUSH….thank you
6:40-8:39 omg I love Alex! 😂😂😂 And just when you think he's done being hilarious, he does it again later on, haha Thx a million for posting 👍🙏😊 RIP Neil Peart 🌹
That is the definition of excellence. It is just so easy for them that they can goof around, Alex is trying real hard to crack up Geddy and Neil but all the while they don't miss a beat or a note. Incredible.
I bet they have plenty of deaf fans. My only regret? That they can only see Rush and feel the sound waves of the music, but they'll never be able to also hear the music. I guess 2 out of 3 isn't bad.
@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 Very well spoken!! It seem like Every time they play this song, that Neil Peart alway's laughs... Well actually they all do😅🤟🤘🤙🤟🤘🤙
Certainly way up there. Excellent musicians but you do understand a lot of the stuff is electronic, sequencers and loops. That takes a lot of talent to program though. Geddy is genius.

mind fucking blowing, what a jam. one of my favorite qualities about Neil is no matter what song they played he always found a way to use all his drums any song they are not just props. also this band knows how to have FUN! RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A bloody masterpiece! Alex shows us how to play a beautifully melodic, technically superb solo. The three masters are in top form. Rush shows us what it is like to be at once a comedic and iconic rock band, perhaps the best there ever was. No easy feat.
@Kickshaw68: It just doesn't speak to me. It doesn't pick me up, never has, if that's what you're wondering. Not that I downvoted the performance but it is what is is: Rush may be fantastic musicians but still not my cup of tea. And that's a good thing, you know ... different tastes and such.
Glen Cambell!!! he is not even in the rock genra.......the 2 Best Guitarist were Eddie Van Halen and ALex Lifeson.....PERIOD.....then comes Hendrix and PAGE......dont put Hendrix and Page before you Eddie and Alex........you have to listen to the music they put out 1st.....
@@michaelloder5150 Genre. You don't have to play strictly rock music to be a great guitarist, i.e. Andres Sagovia, Les Paul and Chet Atkins. Glen Campbell played a lot of rock music though in his early years as a studio musician, even playing in the Beach Boys.
The best thing about this video is the Amazing interplay between, not only band mates, but between VERY CLOSE DEAR FRIENDS... A beautiful thing to watch 😍
Watching they making fun of each other, how close their chemistry musically and individually, makes me sad thinking they must be missing Neil so much right now :(
Alex’s verbal improvs were always fun. Fun to see Geddy and Neil adapt to it. Was always a joy to see them 🇨🇦😍🥃😷 like so many, I still weep for the loss of Neil. Thank you Neil for the gift of you 😢
God, The music is great, but seeing these three up their playing their hearts out while having fun and smiling is absolutely fucking GOLD. Neil and Geddy laughing with enjoyment at Alex is awesome.
Who are the 5 people who have this thumbs down? If you don't like a band why watch and then give a thumb down. Also you can't compare zep to rush two totally different styles zep greatest rock band ever Rush is more progressive and always changing that is what makes them truly great you have to appreciate what three guys can do by themselves and as a whole
That was the worst response to anything I've seen on youtube for a while. You didn't answer the question at all. You just insulted at the end, and made a non-sequitur at the start. Try again, this time with more effort..
Lifeson's preciseness and subtlety on a solo like La Villa Strangiato is underrated. I know everyone says he's underrated but it takes real musicianship to write and perform something like what we see from 2:17 to 3:43. It's those little details. Even the way it transitions off into those palm mutes is excellent in how it phases to the next part of the song. As where another guitarist would have gone right into the hard part of the solo, Alex builds up to it carefully with delicately placed bends until it reaches that suspense point.
Man Alex is so underrated it is sickening. He is so smooth and clean and proficient!!! Man I would love to have his talent. Or any of them let's not get it twisted lol.
When your bassist and drummer are the GOAT, it just gets a little weird. But, let us all Surrender to Alex's amazing and underlooked guitar skills! (BTW we would all sacrifice our first borns for a chance to play on that les paul)
I can deal with not seeing them play again. We fans definitely got our money’s worth watching them play. What’s harder for me to deal with is the fact that Neil is no longer here.
Yeah, when you get the chance read or listen to his non fiction, you pick up a lot about him, I had just finished masked rider when he died, and I was in no shape to listen to ghost rider, audible gave away the recordings of his other travel stuff, a lot of fun, was much more able to process Ghost Rider last, despite it technically being #2 of 7
The smile on Neil's face was priceless. Just goes to show how much fun they had and the crowd as well. Every time I saw them live it was an adventure - never a dull moment. The three of them were the best of friends making incredible music for more than four decades. There will never be another band like Rush. RIP Professor.
any one of them in a band would be awesome all three in one band is perfection at its best no click track to keep them together they just knew each other and trusted that the other two were as fantastic as any one individual on that stage R.I.P Professor thanks for the memories
