I still can't believe it... It is impossible... My drum and lyrics guru is dead😥😥😥I cry and I'm in mourning😪😪😪Condolence for the family, friends and all fans of Rush😓😓😓R.I.P Neil... My Brother🧡🧡🧡
You ever get to meet him? Not many people did, his music touched millions of lives, but the man was secluded. The world lost a great man, but i can't shed a tear for someone i never met and had no interest in meeting me. ✌
I heard someone say the other day " Neil is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer." Really puts things into perspective. Long live the legacy of Neil Peart!
No drama. No drug issues. No in band fighting just 40 years of brilliant men doing rock and roll the way it is meant to be. Thank you guys and Neil, rest easy my friend.
Apparently, their lead guitar player was more humble than any other bands lead. The bass guitar and drums are featured right along with the lead. The lead has his moments, but he never seems to steal the show. Geddy's work on bass is more technical than most, and the drums, well most everyone knows how special he was.
I think the fact that it’s three members and that Alex and Geddy grew up together had a lot to do with them staying together and being so happy together the whole time.
Fuck covid- 19 Rush is the cure for all things to come !!!! Im 56yrs young saw them 13times Im Mexican American my wife is 50% Italian 50% Irish do the math my son and Daughter love Rush !!!! Keep on rocking !!!!
No because they occupied a space in time in-between hard rock and techno metal. That time has come and gone but there are many great great bands that have built upon their sound, but they are still the grandfathers of tech or math metal.
Wasp jimmie a breack seen all kinds of band's here and shroud for over fifty years and you come up 28th wasp what are you dime bag and bucket head fan get a life
We were amazed first time we heard them, listened to them all through high school and still enjoy their sound up to now. I just turned 57 years young and this music brings back so many incredible memories. It is our youth, our diverse taste in music and Rush being at the top of that list. What an incredible, talented band and some of the best memories that came with it. RIP Neil and may your legacy of music and songs go on forever, the timeless and ageless sound that lives on.
A girlfriend introduced me to Rush in the 1970s . I was hooked and never left them. Sadly the girl didn't last. Now 2024 still listen to them....Neil sadly missed
I listened to Rush every day in my car for 30 years, and finally got to a live performance when my 17 year old son took up my Rush collection and I wanted to reward him for his excellent choice. I don't know which of us was more impressed by what we experienced that day. All I know is Rush is timeless.
He was not a prima donna or narcissistic. Very humble and one of my fav. things he ever said about people calling him the "master"; "what is a good master but a master student???" the man will never die! PERIOD!!! :)
Listening to Rush since 1977 and my college jazz scholarship wife never saw (or heard) Rush until I brought her to this tour (when playing Fresno, Ca) in '97. I laughed so hard when she said "hey! That drummer is good!" and gave her a big kiss. Yeah that was a good night 😘 still got the t-shirt too. Woot!
There really was a different dynamic with these 3. Not only were they band mates in one of the greatest bands EVER, it was obvious that they were also best friends. That really showed when Neil took his time away after losing his wife and daughter. Many other bands would have bailed on him and found another drummer. They supported their brother in his time and waited for him.
Like when Alex goes over to Neil as if to say, "hit that little 16th again." And Neil does. It was a blast watching these guys mature, yet stay the same. Long live some good headphones.✈
Who else is binge watching rush videos? RIP Mr. Peart. You left one hell of a legacy, sir. (And no, I'm not here because the hype, I'm here as a 20 year fan.)
Well yes and no. I'm just here because I'm a sociopath & I find the empathic response of humans puzzles me. I'll leave now before I say something that gives me away. (PS: Neil you were a funny guy, super smart & looking down from heaven right now I don't think you'd even be maudlin - cheers and rock in peace brother. You and Gord Downie have stuff to talk about!)
Whenever I went to a Rush concert I knew that my money was well spent. Always 100%. Very few bands live up to the talent and professionalism shown by Alex. Geddy and Neil.
Me too. Took my little brother. Wife couldn’t find a sitter. He was all into hip hop. He was mesmerized. Couldn’t believe the amount of music coming from 3 guys.He actually asked me "Are they really playing?". He was hooked. My wife was pretty much the same. You see Rush again. Yeah she came with me. Again amazed at the music. Yeah she turned on to Rush.
You ever notice that they always started at the exact time they were supposed to? I saw them maybe 15 times and you could set your watch by when they came on.
Absolutely.. my favorite.. I have always played bass, 6 string ,5 string, 4 string, an GEDDY IS MY IDOL, or my favorite? I really don't know which... I would hate to insult him , period. He has however always been a musical inspiration in my life, an made my life more complete.. Ron Platt on bass ... u tube search it...
@@6-stringbassalternateplayi303Geddy is one of the best bass players in rock. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden is one of the best bass players in metal. Listen to him on Wasted Years, especially during the guitar solo. He is rocking the heck out of that bass.
The passage from 3.00 to 3.45 tells you everything you need to know about Rush. Neil's smile at 3.20 just makes me wanna smile back. And I do. Every time.
Alex dared Geddy to go for the high note(3:25). This could've been a conversation before hand by the three because his high note on the second "we are merely players", seemed to illicit responses from both Alex and Neil. At least that's the vibe I got.
These dudes represented not trying to out-do each other, just "I'm bringing the best me to the play." For every foot on the ground there is another, up, going different places sometimes the same pedal the notion. Fame.
It's hard to watch this without thinking about what is about to happen, from the perspective of the video, to Peart's wife and daughter. His struggle to survive and come back is an inspiration to anyone dealing with loss.
Greg Camp yes, his journey and struggle whether to live or die, to gain perspective, new love, happiness is a testament to human strength and spirit, and to this man.
I love this video, but this was my exact thought. It's eerie to live in a world where we can look back decades and peak into people's lives at different points with a few strokes of a key. Surreal.
Yep, just thinking that too, his life was about to be thrown into turmoil. Reading on his website, it sounds like he had a very beautiful relationship with his young daughter, Olivia (his daughter with his second wife, Carrie). She sounds like a very, very bright and creative teenager. My heart goes out to her and her Mom. So sad that Neil is no longer with us, though of course he is still with us, having left us so much. He was remarkable in so many ways, and climbed back up, finding the will and desire to carry on and make life worth living. Thank you, Neil, for everything 🙏❤️😔
Here’s my dilemma. Never have been a rush fan. Knew their music and knew most of their famous songs such as Tom Sawyer and others. Even knew most of the lyrics. It wasn’t until Neil’s passing of the same cancer that took our other Canadian songster mr. Gord Downie that I took a hard look at the musical history and efforts of this band. It blows me away at my ignorance of how great this band was and is and how much I missed from back in the day. I had so many opportunities to see them over the last thirty five years it actually makes me sad. But I suppose better late than never. Limelight is my new anthem.
I echo this completely. I was such a dick dismissing these guys over the years. Now, everyday I discover something more that indicates they are off-the-charts great. Alex's solo on Limelight is stunning.
Harry Ballz ha guy....too bad you didn't see them early on....I saw at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1976 with UFO and that really did it for me. I was already s fan since me and my friends were in a band playing some of their songs....not to mention Michael Schenker of UFO showing what he could do on guitar... what a concert... impossible to forgot...at least you looked into them and can still enjoy them. Take care friend. John 3:3-6
My pain is that growing up in Australia, for me RUSH didn't get a mention over here. I loved listening to music in the 70s and onwards and RUSH drew a mental blank....i might have heard some songs but nothing comes to mind. Move forward 40 years into 2019 and i decided to look up "good" drummers ( myself a keen drummer but not very good) and a guy named Neil Peart pops up with Tom Sawyer and the rest they say is history. The passing of Neil is very sad to me, but in the past year I have been able to overdose on all of RUSH's songs. After it was announced of Neils passing 3 days after, I basically haven't stopped listening to them. These three are pure masters.
Absolutely hated Rush literally up until Neil passed; some of my friends were posting some of Rush's deeper cuts (mostly from the later years when Geddy's voice wasn't as irritatingly shrill as it was from 1973 to 1980) and I was blown away by how fantastic they were as musicians and how deep and empathetic a writer Neil was. "The Pass" put me over the edge, what a devastatingly compassionate and well written song that is. I love them as much as I do the Dead and the Stones now.
I have seen a lot of bands live over the years, but Rush was the best live band ever. Listening to them live was like listening to your home stereo. Neal Peart will be greatly missed.
Six weeks after this performance Neil's life would change forever...and 23 years later our life's would change...we never know what's ahead so we need to celebrate what we have been through "Today" is all we have....Thanks Neil
@@gastondeveaux3783I was referring to the death of his daughter. That was the event that started his downward spiral and the death of his common law wife 10 months later did not help matters. But yes loosing his daughter is what I was referring to.
What a beautiful, brilliant, cosmic anomaly that these 3 human beings came together at a moment in time to create such art. I give thanks in perpetuity for the majesty that is them!
Still watching……all these years later & nothing makes me smile quite like seeing these 3 guys…….do what they do best. Neils been gone almost 19 months & ut still hurts. I have a feeling it will hurt for a very long time!! RUSH FOREVER!!!!!
Alex's face at the beginning when Geddy tries to hit that first high note fantastic 😜 that's the beauty of this band they never took themselves too seriously 👍
Man, this was back when they could still rock the songs and the vocals. RIP Neil. You rocked the hell out of the world and left it a better place for your existence.
@@superslayerguy Oh, you haven't listened to Geddy sing in the last 10 years, I see. It's okay. You can discover that here on YT. Just search on here, man.
They sound phenomenal here. Imagine just a few weeks after this, Peart's world came crashing down around him. RIP Neil Peart. You will always be missed.
i was at this show and i will never forget every show ive been too farewell to my king my mentor my inspiration thank you to rush i am who i am today The music the lyrics the drumming all moulded me to to be who i am today every album evolving together as i grew rush grew to geddy and alex my heart goes out to yous in losing you mate and to all rush fans all over the world were all still part of the rush family and always will be reunited by celebrating there music NEIL THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIFE'S WORK IT WAS AMAZING RIDE!!!!!
I saw these guys 21 times, hemisphere tour was my first time and every tour after all in st.louis mo. Even got neil's autograph. I sure do miss their live shows. Thanks for the great years you gave your fans you are missed.rock on neil.🎓😃
The heart of a band, beating, lost. I am sorry for the suffering Neil must have endured, and the pain that his family and friends must be feeling. I wish them strength and comfort. R.I.P Neil Peart, you gave your family, band mates and fans, music that will never be forgotten.
At 3:19 minutes into the clip Alex and Neil make eye contact and the both smile...and I believe they say to each other isn't this great to be able to do this for a living...I still can't watch and not shed a tear knowing it is over and how the world has changed since Neil is gone....a very sad, sad, sad, place without him...see you in the next world don't be late...
Just a fabulous band. Quality layered music that never ages. Sadly I never got to see them live..big regrets. I have been listening to RUSH for over 40 years
I feel very lucky and fortunate that when I heard this band for the first in 1977 listening to Cygnus X-1 that I had enough sense to make them my favorite band. How lucky were we all that we got to listen to and see them in concert for so many decades while multitudes of other bands came and went or changed members. It blows my mind that from the time I was a 13 year old teenager that my favorite band made music and toured for the next 38 years. I miss them but will always be grateful for being the soundtrack of my life. I know I’m not the only one that feels that way either.
I was born 5 weeks before this show, and that shows how much RUSH evolved and got better with time, just like wine. So sorry Neil had to retire, but he left a hell of a legacy!
Definitely one of my favorite drummers, incredibly virtuous, will live forever in our memories because of the great legacy he left us in his percussions, rest in peace Neil Peart.
Best band ever, been listening to rush since 1975 I'm a brother from Detroit and my neighbors thought I was crazy haha my heroes rip mr.Peart I only listen to them everyday for the past 45 years lol
You can be ready for the fact of someone's death, but nothing can prepare you for the feeling of their absence thereafter. Was the same with my mom dying a year ago, and my dad 30 years ago. You're attached to people you know, more than you think until the tendrils that bind you together are torn loose from your heart. Then you really know. That's just how it goes.
I’ve been thinking the same thing. Having to have seen their friend Neil go through the first ordeal, and then see him meet the same fate as his 1st wife is sad.
@@j_freed Yeah, with you. My Mum died from cancer. She was in her early 80's and didn't want to go through treatment but let it run its course. So, we were prepared, kind of. But that finality is something you can't really prepare yourself for. That empty space, the phone calls, the gestures that are missing. Time softens the raw pain and sorrow but there is still a scar. Hoping you're OK, and that life is beginning to manifest its joy, beauty, it's treasure once again.
Hearing Rush especially this song is so magical, takes me back to 1980 when I was 13 just got out of KISS and discovered what real music was, real talent and stellar musicianship was all about.
This was my very first RUSH show. It's possible you can see me in one of the crowd shots. It would be my last for about 10 years tho. Saw the Time Machine, Clockwork Angels and R40 shows all in Toronto. But this show was special because it was outdoors and my first.
Nowadays the only real, valid use for RU-vid is to remind us how great we had it when Rush could still come to your town and show us what REAL MUSICIANSHIP was. So glad I can tune in here and watch the Professor and his two brothers rock the world. I will forever cherish the two times I got to see them live (Power Windows and Signals Tours) and am so glad I can always turn on RU-vid and recall some of the best days of my life. Love you guys! By the way, Message to Geddy and Alex: If you are ever in the Atlanta Georgia area you are welcome to come to my house for a meal (Lots of wine included of course) and a jam session with a wannabe drummer and bassist!
The first concert I ever saw was 2112~ I've been a loyal fan for how many decades now? Never mind- let's not answer that :) When I was at the Roll the Bones tour in St. Petersburg, FL, I was sitting 3 rows from the stage in front of Alex and when they played this song- (one of my favs and there are so many) I stood and gave him the hand sign for love and he mouthed "thank you" to me and then proceeded to play the solo in front of us- I named my son after him
Não sei do que eu gosto mais: das músicas excelentes, da técnica impecável ou do fato dos 3 caras serem amigos por mais de 30 anos. Acho que essa é a parte mais legal do Rush. Eles se divertiam pra krl tocando juntos
Let’s be great full Rush got back together in 2001, and the next 14 years put out 3 albums, 1 EP, got a star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and Induction into Rock Roll Hall Of Fame. Sooner or later the band was going to call it quits. Rush had one amazing run.
Thx for posting this incredible live version of Limelight by RUSH Snowdog! Neil Peart has only been gone for a few days & this was timely to come upon as I’m in deep reflection on how PHENOMENAL this trio is/was with Neil as the heartbeat 💓
I remember the first time I saw these guys on "Don Corsner Rock Concert" back in the 70s, I was soooo impressed!! Geddy Lee was a major reason I stuck to playing bass.... And need I say more about the late great, drum God; Mister. Neil Peart.... Love you guys...
I'd never seen this video until tonight -- though I know the song by heart -- have for 40 years. Will miss Neil and Rush forever. I'm just glad he left us such a great musical legacy....
They became my favourite band around 1984 and have been so ever since. Limelight was my first favourite song of Rush. My favourite guitarist is Alex, favourite bassist Geddy, favourite drummer Neil, but my favourite thing about Rush is their lyrics. It makes me sad that I never had a chance to meet Neil. Reading Roadshow now, it helps in getting to know him a little.
The sound quality of this is insane. For once Neil’s drums are miked properly. The slap and pop can be heard for once . RIP Neil, best percussionist ever!
During the Test for Echo tour. This was one of many that I saw, and every show was brilliant. It's been said many times - Alex, Geddy and Neil were the best of friends, playing music in the greatest band ever, and having the best time. I got goosebumps at every show I saw. There will never be another band like Rush. God bless Alex, Geddy and the Peart family. We miss you Professor.
