Russel Morris | Sweet Sweet Love (1971) | Reaction 

So him couple weeks ago as part of the fabulous caprettos (Russell Morris, Dave Gleeson, Jack Jones and Rai Thistlewaite), amazing concert, his voice has held up really well and still has an amazing voice today (and he sung Sweet Sweet Love flawlessly).

So true. I’m always shocked that our great artists don’t become world renown artists because they are simply so darn good!

Russel is my favourite Aussie artist. I’ve seen him many times a year pre covid? I think he’s better now than when this version was on tv. Check him out on RU-vid

I'm a bit surprised this was chosen over "Real Thing" to introduce Russell.

I was 8 when I heard the real thing. It gave me goosebumps. It was the beginning of my love for music.

@@Quinctili He recently listened to Mahalia Barnes, Kate Ceberano and Nikki Costa cover The Real Thing so maybe that’s why they suggested this song instead… I dunno 🤷🏼‍♀️

That doesn't surprise me one tiny bit. I see the US as extremely insular. They are in shock that they are not the only ones on the planet. Expected to come out of sock in 50 to 60 years.

@lyndam67 Agreed and this song did come out in the early 70s. I think the rest of world didn't know Australia existed back then.

To get into the American music scene back then, you had to pay for your management to go to the USA and promote the band, then you had to pay to get a tape played for the management of a big act that you might get a tour supporting. You could try it on your own, but without the finance, that is very difficult. The bands that made it, Goanna and others, they were the ones who were lucky and got that very rare break. Chisel tried and failed in the USA, so did the Divynals and Mental as Anything. The list goes on. I know that Wendy and the Rocketts manager went to the USA several times, trying to get her a support on a major tour. They ended up getting booked for the European leg of a Brian Adams tour, he threw them off the tour after they were called back for encores in Berlin. They sat around in London and ended up supporting ZZ Top. I should mention that Wendy was charting higher in Berlin than Brian Adams at the time.

@@suzeprimrose-7466 Within a few seconds of him starting to sing that song I choked up. First heard him when I was about 13-14 in the late seventies. First song I ever heard him sing was the "Real Thing". Blew my mind completely at the time.

I remember waiting for them to play GIngerman again on the radio.

@@rosmeeker1964 Yes. I remember watching that Aunty Jack ep on the University Student Union student lounge colour TV Live. Along with hordes of other students who could not afford colour TVs back then, along with our families for a few years.

I enjoy having it broken down to explain the bits I wouldn't notice for myself. Scrolling back and forth from a delayed commentary would be a hassle
