I only discovered this band a few weeks ago, and now I'm permanently hooked on "The End is Not in Sight". I can't believe I went through the 70s without ever listening to this amazing band, which should be rated with the Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the best Southern rock elite.
russell smith has a wonderful voice and is a superior song writer. i personally have been listening to the aces since 1974. they are my number one all time favorite band.
I saw the Aces play at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco in 1978 & then again in Berkeley the same year. They totally rocked and were my fave band at the time. Nothing like seeing them live in a small club. The sound was killer, the playing was tight, and Russell Smith's voice was huge and soulful. Wonderful memories....great band :)
To my opinion one of thegreatest underestimated songwriter of the 20th century Great performer and voice, just love the songs ( there must be more from where it came from ) thanks for sharing this great video !! moody514 (the Netherlands)
Funny .. I guess we kinda had a similar idea for a song .. Mine was, "I Wonder Whose Pickup Truck (Is in Her Driveway Tonight)" .. Horrible having to drive by her place on the way to/from work each night after our breakup. But that's small town. livin' .. :-(
With song writers and performers of the caliber of Russell Smith, WHY are we subjected to the mediocre retread pop that passes for country on the radio?
right on the money. the junk that is called country now is a joke. every group and song sounds the same. no originality . The Amazing Rhythm Aces were kind of country/rock/pop and very talented. Third Rate Romance was a gem and brilliant lyrics. perfect juke box song for a country bar. It was played on the pop stations along with Santana it was so good. an underrated band for sure.
Thanks and good for you. the ARA are underrated and I hear do fabulous live shows often upstaging the other bands in the venue." First rate romance" is their best to me and the live performance of this song is on RU-vid and super You have good taste in music. "Asleep at the wheel " is also good if you are not familiar with them . They are fabulous on "Get your kicks on route 66", especially with Elizabeth McQueen. Cheers.
Wonderful nostalgic lost-love song, so perfectly 80s when the back-up singers nearly out shine the main event. Critics will say this didn't fair very well back in 89 on the charts. Have heard that it stands in the shadow of another popular song by the same title from the 60s. Let them talk, it's raining tonight here in New Mexico, that's pretty special in itself. Still my go to rainy night song now for got thirty plus years. That makes it a number one, and I'm sure my of you out there feel the same. And, it's much better than that other one that charted higher, just saying...
Here it is April 2020. I can't tell you a name of the new country music singers. Most of it is pop goes the country. CMT, doesn't show any music at all. Does no one make videos? Would we watch them?
I can't believe these extremely talented musicians are not more widely known. I guess they don'yt fit the formulaic junk that passess for music at the moment.
