The old adage "The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend" is proving true once again. As long as Russia and PRChina has a common rival to worry about (the US) they'll stick together for the moment. As a Chinese i agree. in politics there are no friends, just mutual interest and benefits. In fact, Russia didnt like the BRI at all, they see it as encroaching their former USSR central asia countries interest with $$$ and influencing Russia's old allies like armenia and serbia. Thing is The west force this awkward relationship to play in front of the camera and china needs a fabricated enemy just to keep us in unity, thus "The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend". Other than that, its just pure business.

Is more honest to say they are using each other. China more than Russia. Because under no circumstances will China be helping Russia in meaningful way. They are very much "Let God sort them out" and cut deal with whomever is left standing. So the second Russia get serious is back to business as usual. Aka they still work with each other may give some indirect help if Russia offer enough money but beyond that there not going to die for them. So yeah is very good weather/PR alliance and that's it. They can never be close allies even under past communist ideology could not be anything but business partner with share enemy.

US itself has promoted autocrats around the world. Not sure if US contributed to democracy or human rights.
@mabeSc
@mabeSc 2 года назад
It has contributed to neither, just made everything worse. - Interventions in South America (so many of them, I do not even know how many) ; - The interventions in South America then let to the countries becoming weaker, more divided and less happy to collaborate with each other - just imagine an "United States of South America" or at least something - the US biggest fear, probably ; - Supported genocides in Yemen ; - Vietnam ; - Iraq ; - Afghanistan ; - Still thinking that they are as powerful as they were in the 90's and not bending or accepting any reasonable deal that gives the other party any kind of benefit (it's either all that the US wants but nothing that the other country wants - wonderful deal + keeping on portraying countries in the media as evil - good propaganda). As you can see nothing has been achieved of any sort of significance in the last decade ; - Sanctions that should be illegal and a crime against human rights as they target the population as a whole - not the governments. In many countries that are not self-sufficient with food US sanctions resulted in famines, tons of deaths, suffering and so much more. Now count the deaths caused by capitalism - am sure it dwarfs the figure that they've put about communism in the 70's as propaganda. You know, the "100 million deaths" that am sure includes WW2 deaths as well...
@unconventionalideas5683
@unconventionalideas5683 2 года назад
@@mabeSc You have a peculiar point of view. The answer is that it depends on the case by case basis. The Philippines, for example, decolonized largely because of the US government. And it is not as if Hawaii was a democracy prior to the US presence, even if that developed for the wrong reasons. There are some other cases, namely Japan, which had never had democracy prior to WWII. There are good cases and bad cases regarding US foreign policy. There are plenty of concessions. Your point about sanctions targeting whole populations is grossly inaccurate. Since the Iraqi human rights disaster of the 1990s, there has been a massive development to change the system of sanctioning to focus in a much more targeted way which has greatly reduced the negative impact of sanctions, and even many of the earlier programs, such as those against Cuba, contain specific exemptions for things like Food, Humanitarian Aid and Medicine among other things. In other words, sanctions are engineered to avoid depriving populations of basic necessities while still punishing the governments for what is seen as misbehavior. I fail to comprehend your last point, It seems as though your understanding of US foreign policy comes from some very one-sided sources. I do understand why people might feel that the US hasn't always lived up to its values regarding foreign policy, but the opposite extreme doesn't necessarily hold up either. Notably, during what decade 9other than the 1940s) has there been a whole lot achieved by any country in particular regarding foreign policy during last several centuries (other than perhaps the collapse of the Soviet Union?).
@mabeSc
@mabeSc 2 года назад
@@unconventionalideas5683 The more targeted sanctions have proven to be completely useless in most cases. Sure, it does work to stop the purchase of weapons the US is not happy about but that's about it. Nobody wants to trade ANY type of goods with a country that is sanctioned by the US, especially US allies. This does include humanitarian resources, too. And, no, Mr.Woke, I do not read or follow only sources that reinforce my point. My last point was about sanctions? What is there not to understand? In Western aligned countries obviously there is nothing that has been achieved since the 90s (and even longer, once they realised who their new leader was) other than some economic growth (which translated so poorly into actual real wages). Plenty has been achieved by Asian countries, though. Russia could have also achieved more positive changes if the West wasn't so keen on completely overthrowing Putin.

Certainly a similar situation, but I think the main difference being is that both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany knew they were going to go to war at some point, but at that current time it was more beneficial to cooperate. They were hardly 'buddies', Nazi Germany was focused on the west and the Soviet Union didn't feel they were ready for war. The two powers didn't really see the western nations as the real threat and had rather closed economies. Whilst today China and Russia have no real territorial disputes with each other and are far more focused on standing against the West. The two countries also complement each other rather well with Russia's sanctioned economy needing someone to trade with and it's impartiality to China's Socialism, with China's thirst for a secure and vast source of natural resources.

What I've learned from this comment section is that countries with terrible education have not taught the definition of 'a democracy' or have been purposefully taught a mistranslated or simply wrong definition. A democracy is a form of government *decided by the majority of its citizens that can also create their own government*. If a government is chosen without the majority of its citizens' clear decision, then that government is not democratically elected, if the citizens cannot create a government and be recognised by the majority of citizens of the State, then there is no democracy at play. - Oxford Dictionary, definition of the word 'democracy' It doesn't matter if it's through votes, elected representatives of sectors etc. As long as it's the majority that wishes the governance it's currently on it's a democracy. As such, if the people regret their decision and the majority is now against its current governance, then for democracy to be preserved, the current governance is to be changed, if it is not, then its current governance is not a democracy. It cannot get simpler than this.

Exactly! Russia, in all honesty, should have been just as powerful as the United States, if not more so, given its vast resources, high civic duty, "strong nationalism, vast open lands, bountiful agricultural production, and more; believe it or not, they were actually digging themselves out of that trench at the beginning of the 20th century, with the notable exception of extreme class division; however, WW1 happened, then communism, then WW2, then the collapse of it. Expect both China and Russia to act increasingly aggressive in the next coming decades, as China's one-child policy and Russia's communist era effectively doomed their economy based on demographic trends, so they will try to stake a claim on the world stage while their populace is still young, nationalistic and productive. If they wait any longer, these nations are going to stop being functioning societies. Diversification of its economy, even just a little, would definitely be a good start.

Westerners often assume the world just agrees with them and their ideals, but what this misses is that large chunks of the globe either don’t care about western interests or are actively against it. When people say ‘around the world’ to reference the western alliance system they usually just means - North America, Europe, Australia, Israel and Japan. Lets use Russia-Ukraine as an example. Most of world doesn’t seem to care about Russia or Ukraine. Africa - a continent of 1.4 billion people - barely a mention of Ukraine or Russia. China a country with 1.4 billion people is siding with Russia. The Indian sub-continent a region with nearly 2 billion people doesn’t seem to care about the situation very much and the countries there have avoided taking sides. South America and the Middle East -combined have about 1 billion people and most people and states there don’t seem to care about Russia or Ukraine either. Overall this is the vast majority of the worlds population that either doesn’t care about a war in Europe because it doesn’t actively effect them or actively side with Russia. When westerners say ‘the world’ it’s usually just their allies and friends while ignoring the vast majority of the planet who usually don’t care. It’s like when Americans call their athletes ‘world champions’ even though the game is only really played in America. It’s the ‘superbowl champions of the world’ of politics.

The failure of American foreign policy was not embracing Russia as a partner after the collapse of the USSR. While former Soviet satellite states received aid, Russia had to fend for itself. The west seemed to just want to kick the horse while it was down by expanding NATO up to Russia's borders. Dmitry Medvedev's presidency was probably the last ditch effort by the US to improve relations since he was a fairly moderate liberal who was open to embracing Europe. Unfortunately though, the US continued to not willing to respect Russia's interests and seems to pursue a policy of boxing Russia in such as the British Empire did around the time of the Crimean War. EU counties such as Austria and Finland have good relationships with Russia, and recently Estonia has turned round from the other Baltic states at sought better relations with Russia because they know they can't survive on a policy of "Russophobia" forever. It's not wonder why Russia is embracing China and putting pressure on NATO to not allow Ukraine & Georgia to join. Usually the trade off for one nations security is another nations insecurity, and the US has back the Russian bear into a corner for the past 30 years to the point that they have reached their own red lines.

Yes, but my question is do they even need to be? If China want to be communist then why not? Over the millennia there have been many cultures and ways of government that where not democratic. But not all where that bad. Look at China, their growth and development and national strategy is better then any other country, they achieved an incredible amount in a short time from backward farmer to high tech. And all the wile so called free America is decaying. Yes they put state before people, but a lot of people might see that as perfectly acceptable considering the wider achievement. Once they are done they can always become more democratic once they are good and ready.

If you look at what the term "democratic" has referred to historically, you'll find that all it means is "manipulation of society as a formless blob to manufacture consent for the dominance of an elite ruling class". The problem with democracy isn't that it's a "tyranny of the majority", but rather a tyranny of an extreme minority. That describes Russia and China to a tee.

@MoonatikYT
@MoonatikYT 2 года назад
@@ketelin4285 Yeah exactly, lol. If you look at any western election you'll find that it is very rare for a party to actually win a majority of the public's support. For instance, in the last UK election, the Tories got 43% of the vote which is already not a majority, but when you account for the 67% turnout it's then only about 29% of eligible voters. Yet for some reason, they get to maintain parliamentary hegemony even though 71% of the adult population didn't vote for them. On top of that it's quite obvious that the Tory party almost exclusively represents the interests of a small section of British landlords, businessmen, and financiers, so not even that minority of the population duped into voting for them. Madness!

@@ketelin4285 your confusing a not democratic country like the us with for example the EU. Democracy it's perfect, but it's what we have. America is a failed democracy, but the eu is quite different. Much more social kapitalist.
