I'm usually very wary of buying used but I'd buy a vehicle from you in a heartbeat even with the off-road use, just because you actually take care of them and don't ignore maintenance and prevention.

Just a heads up mate, I'm much like yourself and do as much as possible to prevent wear and damage. Young bloke, have loved cruisers my whole life.. I have had a couple of 70 series now and both have had paint issues, especially white and sandy taupe being matt and not metallic. Strong turns in the steel like the doors, but also a common issue i'm finding even on the new cars on dealerships.. is the right gutter never seems to get enough paint, and when the Clear wears with time you will get some nice rusty happy smiles. Toyota haven't been great and are going to compensate me for the $1500 in coatings ect. Make sure you keep an eye on it. Love your work mate, keep up the videos!

Hey Mark. I absolutely bathed the underside of my Prado in Lanotec Steel Seal a month or so after I first took delivery of it and reapplied a second coat a few months later. At the time, I donned disposable overalls (white 'sperm suit') and safety glasses and went to town from front to back ... and especially the internals of the chassis. I ended up showering myself with the stuff in the process but no real surprises there. I'm not sure about yourself but what I found was that it takes several months to 'dry' but even then, it still stays greasy/tacky to the touch and despite waiting a good month after I last applied a coat before I drove it on the beach, I found that sand sticks to it like s#@t to a blanket. I managed to get most of it off with a pressure cleaner and thankfully the Steel Seal also didn't come off with it. Based on that, I recommend anyone using Steel Seal apply it several months prior to hitting the beach or muddy tracks etc. wherever possible. One other tip I'd like to offer is running 12mm John Guest hose (the thick plastic tubing they use for caravan water plumbing) down both chassis rails drilled with random holes and plugged at one end. The other end should be tucked away but accessible at the rear underside of the vehicle and fitted with normal garden hose type connectors which will allow you to plug in your hose at home to flush out the chassis rails of mud, sand, salt etc. I'm told that the important thing about preventing rust after doing a beach run for example is to 'neutralise' the salt with fresh water such that it minimises/eliminates the ability to start the chemical corrosion process. Also, as far as potential mods on your 79 goes, I recommend installing a catch can (I ended up with about 30ml of water and oil in mine after 10K km's which isn't much but still ...), a secondary fuel filter and perhaps even a full airbox (Donaldson?) replacement. I've heard that good old Toyota have in the recent past, dropped the ball a bit regarding the design of airboxes in some vehicles which are known to allow dust to enter into the engine. Apparently, LC200's are notorious for it and why Donaldson had specifically targeted those vehicles in coming up with their redesigned product. I'm told that next on Donaldson's hit list is the 79's ... which to me, says something.

Thanks for steel seal tip. I have found same thin with Inox 👍. Maguires Quik Wax is pretty good for a nice finish afterca wash wipe over with micro fibre towel, can do wet.

I always use standard Lanolin a bit thicker adding some lanolin grease. But I believe that best way to avoid rust is to wash the bottom of the car with garden oscillating sprinklers at least 20 min, never pressure washer.

Useful video, thanks - I've heard good things about Lantotec for under body as well. For the body, the white and sandy taupe 70 series seem to be a bit more prone to surface rust than the metallic colours. Especially around the tops of doors and under door seals. So, paint protection is a good idea..

Good info video I see Royal Enfield at back lovely bike I still own one sitting at back home in India 2003 model.

This stuff is a good natural product which you don't have to worry about fumes or skin irritations but from experience using it,it does take a while to dry and dust sticks to it which makes it hard to remove, that's my thoughts on lanotec

Lovely Ep and 4wd. Did you spray up inside the chassis, Ive used Tectrol 506 for 40 od year its great.

Hi mate don’t go up cape York with steel seal or dusty road. I did that this year red dust sticks to it like sheet on a blanket. And won’t come off unless steam cleaning professional.

Mark, a quick question with your application of Lanotec underbody - did you use a degreaser before application, or is there no need if it's new? I have a new 76 which I'm about to Lanotec underneath, and wondering if I should to degrease first...

How does it go when you pressure clean after beach driving? Does it come off and you do you need to respray under body all the time?

I found that after owning 2 Toyota's from new after 1 week the sub frame is rusty so I had to paint it again
