Another cool video. Everyone knows the right way to do things. I like how you explain there is more than one right way. I also like how you keep stressing remove or neutralize all the rust before moving on. and check and recheck fitment and orientation of panels.

Hey Mike. I don’t know if you read all the comments, but just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. I’ve been watching your 67 rust removal and repairs. I’m new to this, but I have a 73 bus with some rust. (Obviously). I know the later models aren’t as desirable as the earlier models but it’s what I got. I’ve learned a lot and it’s given me a more warm fuzzy feeling about getting started. Thank you again.

I like that saw! I think it said pneumatic. A battery version would be awesome.

That floor will come up easier if you use a spot weld cutter first on all the rail attachment welds. Hit the valleys of the floor with a 1" Scotch-Brite pad on a roloc equipped die grinder. Will take longer though, so... Why such hate at someone willing and able to do the more labor-intensive, and I'll say it..."correct" way? Maybe someone enjoys the metalwork process. Just because you don't, does not mean it is a waste of time. I've pulled apart plenty of busses that were filled with buckets of filler/magazines/chicken wire etc. and I'm sure those body men said the same thing as they were slinging the mud. "Good enough". With that said, I do understand time and money constraints and applaud your efforts to get this O'l girl back on the road when most would just part it out. Keep it up. You asked for comments. ;-P

Correct is looks good lasts good and is strong. So there are a lot of ways to do it correct. Time is money and years of a persons life can be wasted if they think the only way is the way so many people do it today by the so called correct way according to the paint store and body supply salesmen taking everyone's money. This is about another way that is totally correct. No chicken wire EVER here. no fiberglass none of that. Worrying about inner panels is preference I have done all that stuff I know how to but I choose to save more cars and not waste my time breathing on this earth doing stuff nobody ever sees. While they are fussing over inner panels and creating a museum piece The will probably never get driven. My Bus will be a happy car that gets someone behind the wheel enjoying it for more years to come. A car in a garage is not happy.

Mike, don’t know if you’ll see this for an old video, but I’m just about to start my rust work. Is there a particular wire brush you prefer? What is the one you used in the video?

Wouldn't the overlap method of sheet metal repair create a place for rust to begin?
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 4 года назад
no more than any other way you use seam sealer. keeps the moisture out of the new seam.
@docjay4285
@docjay4285 4 года назад
@@Mikefngarage Oh, I missed the seam sealer thing. Makes sense.

Mike and others, what about 3M panel adhesive instead of butt or overlapping welds ? Panel adhesive seals the area and no water / rust via capillary action ? I have to replace this panel too.
