Our 1956 Plymouth Savoy needs some TLC aka rust repair. This series of videos will show what to do when your classic car has rust issues. We're going to start this video series showing step by step process how to repair and replace a rusty quarter panel. The first step was to make a template out of paper then we traced it on sheet metal now we're ready to cut the rusty one off and start adding shape to the new one 🔥

Hi Chad, Jolene, and Doug, the 1/4 panel came out really nice and the fit is a really good start not to much left to be fitted on it! Doug is doing a really good job of helping Chad. He did an excellent job of cutting the panel yesterday. Chad is doing a good job of giving Doug more to do when he shows that he is capable of doing things like cutting the metal. Jolene I know that you are the only one who reads our comments so, please let Doug know that we appreciate what he does and enjoy him being on the show with Chad. Great job on the video as always Jolene and this was a great idea for Chad to be showing us viewers how to do rust restoration on our cars and I am guessing that you had a lot to do with the idea!

I like the way you make you vids, leaving in chad grabbing his glasses from the other side of the car.them little tidbits people cut out of the videos, and the things people say during them are what makes the people in them real.I’ve been fixing, building, and running vehicles all my life and now I realize that the people behind the cars are the interesting part and what make them “tick”.

After watching a number of Chads projects, i now understand his work method! Chad is fundamentally a very good metal fabricator and enjoys nothing more than cutting and welding metal on his projects, but once he has completed the fabrication part of a build he moves onto another project, as the mechanics of the build are not his forte, that is why it appears that he never actually finishes a project, but in reality the projects are put on hold until someone else carries out the required mechanical work, this has been highlighted in the Bugatti mover project, he has now almost completed the metal work but he now appears to be moving onto other projects? My personal frustration is, that i would love to see the progress of the one project at a time until it's final conclusion, but nevertheless keep doing what you do Chad, its great entertainment 👏👍

For a 1st fit, on a hand-made panel that size, you should be happy!! I know I sure would be! I completely agree with you on putting the trunk extension on after the quarter panel is in. It is much more important to get that visible skin right and to then fit those inner pieces to it!! As always, it is a pleasure to watch your process, and Jolene continues to give us that up close and personal vantage point!!

Hey brother Chad and Jolene you guys are the best. I hope you guys know how much you are helping us to learn how to replace a rusted out panel on a old car. So many people have got old cars like that but can’t replace the panel’s on them. Hoping Chad will not let the hater’s get to him. He’s the best I have seen replacing old rusty car panels out. If he only knew how much he is helping people he would keep the good work up. James salmons sr wv.

The best way to weld two pieces of sheet metal together when you want a gap to fill is to back up the two halves with a piece of heavy copper curved to the right shape and clamped together . The weld will not stick to the copper and will hold your bends to the shape that you made. I used this method for over 30 years in my restoration shop .

My jaw dropped when I first clicked on your channel and saw those amazing project vehicles. I love 50s' cars and from living in Iowa know all about Mr. Rust. Hello from Oklahoma, we made a quarter panel for a 53 belvedere, and used the English wheel for the accent lines. Awesome work hand forming it with little to no tools but the English wheel would have made short work of it, and gave you more material by stretching the metal in those areas, while allowing you to keep the shape of the panel. Love watching your videos and seeing the progress on all your projects.
