Idk if anyone pointed this out, but in ep 1 of the whole series, ruby was known to be a HUGE weapons enthusiast, now her therapist is a blacksmith lmao Oddly fitting
I do really like how gentle the blacksmith sounds. She seems to perceptive and says all the right things to get ruby to think, yet is still patient and kind enough that she does not push ruby to go fast or to a certain way.
Definitely, you can tell the Blacksmith is actually here to help and isn't trying to force or tempt Ruby into what's clearly a bad outcome... unlike that hallucination with RWBY's dopplegangers the Herbalist confronted them with.
I believe in that world, being a therapist is like being a blacksmith being gentle with how she forms her words, like how she shapes the steel and having the patience needed to use those words at the right time.
If I'm being honest, I think the only thing Ruby needs this volume is to get back in touch with the reason she became a hero in the first place. She doesn't need to change her identity, she doesn't need new powers or a brand new weapon. She just needs to find her way back to Ruby Rose
agreed, she also needs to know that she doesn't need to be like her mom, or the ones from the books, she can only be herself, and no one else, to accept failure and learn from it, to take responsibilities as leader in making the toughest of choices, that it's okay to embrace the feeling of hurt, and so on, that's gonna be a key fact for her to understand in order to emerge from the tree with her memories intact.
Correction, She needs to some how be a better version of Ruby Rose. And one more akin to what pauljordan0203 described. Because, seriously part of the whole reason she's failing to the point where she's reached despair and just committed the equivalent to suicide, is because not only is her current self not good enough but even the person her Mom Summer was wasn't good enough. That and her Teammates And Allies Are Absolutely TERRIBLE!!!!! Like Seriously, only Jaune seemed to be okay But He's Also Being Treated Like CRAP!!!!!
I think the blacksmith doesn’t “change” people or afterens in a physical sense (well maybe a little like the prince and the herbalist) but shows them what they need to change their inner self, to remember what they are and show them what they need to do, I think the blacksmith showed Summers axe to Ruby and she is going to see her mother and figure out what to do (very Naruto and 4th hokage)
Honestly, she needs to some how be a better version of Ruby Rose, one more akin to what pauljordan0203 described in a different part of the comment section. Because, seriously part of the whole reason she's failing to the point where she's reached despair and just committed the equivalent to suicide, is because not only is her current self not good enough but even the person her Mom Summer was wasn't good enough. @@shawnwarrynn8609 Ngl, you had me at the first half, but nope, swing and a miss. The problem isn't that they weren't enough, but that they took way too much on their shoulders and thus let every mistake weigh down on them too much.
@@MrGksarathy they were pretty much highschool boxers going against a world class boxer whos also cheats the deck wasnt in there favor but heroes arnt really good at handling defeat even once let alone the amount these poor suckers have gotten like seriously heroes love them cant help but blame themselves for failure
@@MrGksarathy True, but the other half is also True. Bare in mind all the hypocrisy, lies, half-truths and backstabbing that the other members of Team RWBY and their Allies were doing, was what lead to Atlas and Mantle falling! Hell, they could have prevented all this if they didn't go behind Ironwood's back and just be honest with him! But no they had to go and repeat Ozpin's Mistakes!!!
I like the fact that it isn't a blind choice, Ruby can feel who she'd become if she chose any of those weapons before she does. I don't think she's choosing to become Summer. I think she's just going to learn what it was like to be Summer, and that'll help her realize that her mother was human just like her.
Ruby put her mother on a pedestal and tired to live up this ideal perfect person and natural failed and entered depression…because perfection is impossible. Don’t hate yourself for failing to live up to a standard one one asked of you…faults don’t make you a bad person just a person 😊
This volume is deep I know people have mixed feelings about this season but I am happy they are bringing up topics about self-worth like feeling like your not enough, depression, bottled up feelings and emotions are high right now
It's only mixed because people are'nt realizing what this volume has truly been about, the ever after isn't the focus it's all on Ruby's personal journey to face her mistakes and feelings along with Jaune's. The climax for this volume begaqn as soon as Ruby drank that tea.
I feel like what might happen is Ruby might talk to Summer, and that conversation may galvanise Ruby and re-invigorate her desire to fight. Ending up in Ruby taking Summer's weapon back, and perhaps using it for herself. If Summer is really dead proper and not turned into a hound, then I see no reason as to why that couldn't happen. I don't see Ruby becoming Summer, and I also don't see Ruby relinquishing her sense of self either. But I do feel like once she's done, she may look or behave more like her mother than she already did before.
Or, she might reevaluate her opinion of her mother because she might finally see Summer as the woman she was, and not the perfect hero Ruby has always seen her as.
The first time we saw the blacksmith, she was making what looked like a butterfly wing and we then saw the Herebalist emerge with wings. And now we see her making what looks like an animal mask. I'm assuming that's for Little when she comes out of the tree.
The tree is basically one big magical therapist that's meant to guide people into a better mindset. It also explains why it's all up to Ruby what happens next, you can't save someone who does'nt want to help themselves. They have to be willing enough to accept that help and have the resolve to truly face their demons. I can't wait to see how this all wraps up.
This volume is _so weirdly deep...and _*_Spiritual_* I definitely wasn't expecting this type of tone from fkn RWBY. It's...effective tho. It's been a very enjoyable experience
I don't think Ruby will become Summer. That would just be character death, and you don't do that to the main protagonist of a show. Ruby needs to remain Ruby until the end of the show. It would also be really weird to Yang, for her sister to turn into her mother. What I think will happen is Ruby will get flashbacks of Summer's life, and she will realise that her mother is not this perfect idol, and she never meant for her to idolise her that way. Ruby will decide to remain as Ruby. But she will also get an upgrade, as hinted by what happened to the Herbalist and the Paper Pleasers. Ruby might emerge older, matching the age of her teammates. She might master her silver eyes and/or evolve her Semblance to a higher level.
I'm hoping for exactly this, not necessarily aging up but appearing to be more mature is ideal. I feel like the age gap between ruby and the girls is what makes her feats all the more impressive.
@@blayzeshow I think the talk between the teammates about "accepting whoever Ruby becomes" in episode 9, also serves to prepare us viewers to accept what the show will do to Ruby in the finale episode. Ruby will look physically different. My bet is Ruby we will see a more matured version of herself, in body and mind. Matching the age of her teammates by gaining 2 years would be convenient. But that would also mean her age gap with Oscar would widen, so it would be problematic for their relationship, if it happens.
Willing to listen to burdens in exchange she granted Ruby a new weapon and low and behold it was her mother's weapon but she definitely helped her out she didn't tell Ruby what she wanted to hear but just listened to all the things that have been bottled up inside that's all she needed in the end.
So, alot of people have been talking about who Ruby will change into. What will ultimately happen to her and who she will need to become. I'm not sure if alot of people agree with me or not, buuuut I don't think she's gonna change at all. No really. I'm sure she will consider it, but ultimately I think she will come out as Ruby Rose. I just can't see them suddenly changing Ruby drastically this far into the show. She's different from the beginning, sure, but that's a slow change compared to a sudden one. Now the finale may prove me wrong, but I don't think she'll change. She'll just need to be reminded why she wanted to be a Huntress in the first place.
I don't think anyone seriously thinks she's going to become a drastically different person, but I do hope she does make some important changes, like not so readily taking on the burden of the entire world or the future, being more open and vulnerable to loved ones, and generally finding a more sustainable attitude towards being a hero and a Huntsman.
Exactly! I don't know why people think she's going to change into someone else or undergo some sort of radical change in personality to the point she may as well be a different person. I will be *very* surprised (and probably not in a good way) if she comes out of this as anyone other than who she always was, Ruby Rose, huntress and aspiring hero. Now, I do think she won't be completely the same, but it's going to be more along the lines of maturing and growing as a person and coming back as a stronger (emotionally and such) and better version of herself.
I think she'll stay Ruby and change, by accepting herself as she is and as who she wants to be. That destiny/goal to work towards, not try to be perfect. There will probably be a visual change, slight, to reflect the inner change, and probably a difference in how shes presented now. But she'll still be Ruby.
Guys how about this?: The episode put a lot of emphasis on choice like in "The Crown of Choice" of the the relics. So what if the tree is somehow the crown and the blacksmith is in reality the Djinn inside. Also the part of the tree made up of the branches and leaves is refererred to as "Corona", which means crown.
I think the last line about how Ruby knows that she is or isn’t enough will be important. She is probably going to learn that she is enough and that she doesn’t need to hold herself up to the ideal of her mother.
Exactly, She needs to some how be a better version of Ruby Rose. And one more akin to what pauljordan0203 described. the speech that happens at 1:41 will go down to make fire edits for rose, like when i first heard it i thought of all the battles, the key moments, the sorrow it came back like flashes of pain and joy.
Some people are theorising she’ll come back without her silver eyes… the first thing Ozpin said to her was that she had silver eyes. They’re the mark of a great warrior, in remnant lore. She might leave the burden of that behind… if that makes sense?
Maybe, but Ruby still wants to protect people, even at her lowest, and the Silver Eyes are a physical manifestation of that desire. I feel she won't get rid of them.
Oh I kinda get it. Ruby may still want to help but not want the burden and destiny of the silver eyes and might relinquish it. Honestly get it and would be super interesting if she actually does changes her eyes. But personally I do not think crwby would be able to pull off that kind of story well so I doubt it would happen. Also ruby always looked up to her mom and holds onto the image of summer dearly, I don't think she would want to let go of another tie between them.
Yknow I literally just noticed the piano in the background playing a rendition of Red Like Roses...or at least the main notes to it we associate with Ruby.
I have this utterly bonkers image in my head that Ruby will come out of the tree as "Summer Rose" - who will help deal with the Curious Cat, have a moment with Yang, but then, understanding what's happened, go immediately back to the tree to have a spiritual talk with Ruby and convince her to return to being herself. It sounds insane, even to me, and I don't REALLY think it's going to go down that way, but I just can't get the idea out of my head and boy, oh boy would it be dramatic as all get out if it did happen like that.
i think the blacksmith may be Alyx. when the curious cat killed Alyx, the tree may have taken her and turned her into a new character (the carpenter). the cat did say that Alyx changed before entering the gate, that she wanted to fix things in Everafter. what if the tree granted her wish by turning her into the blacksmith?
I looked up to see if blacksmithing and carpentry were the same thing. They're kind of different, but they fall under the same work skill thing sometimes, so this blacksmith lady we see might be the Lively Carpenter!
Theorists once said that Ruby Rose might not change at the end of this volume, and they may be right in some way, she could recycle her broken self and remake it into the shape of a mother, someone she had idolised all her life.
@@Etch.. how so? If Alex changed herself into something else that she wasn’t? And the blacksmith did say “what ever happens to you here is your choice.” Or am I just overthinking this?
@@jessieh0928 In the chapter it is revealed that Alyx wanted to fix what she broke in the Ever After. If the Blacksmith is not the Tree itself it could be doing the Tree's bidding, so Alyx ascended into the Blacksmith to assist in the process.
So little fell into the tree the same time ruby did, Is the helm that the blacksmith is working on for little? Like how she was working on the herbalists wings right after he ascended when we met her in the market
I think rwbys new weapon is going to be pulling from multiple things. Qrow, Summer and the other silver eyed woman so. Sword + Axe + gun + gravity dust
To everyone saying "Ruby doesn't need to change." Yes she does. And I'm not talking about in the physical sense. Everyone has changed. Look at their motives for being a huntress from season 2 epi 10 to now. They are different their motives have changes. But Ruby still dreams of being the hero from the books her motives haven't changed and it hurting her. She needs to find a new reason for being a huntsmen something more grounded and less fantasy. I will end this with a Doctor Who quote that fits this. "We all change, when you think about it. We’re all different people all through our lives. And that’s OK, that’s good, you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be."
@@pauljordan0203 if all lost souls in the ever after return to the tree eventually, whether through death or the leaves, Alex would have been right next to the tree when the cat killed her. All she wanted at the end was to make amends, so it makes sense.
@@pauljordan0203also the blacksmith's answer to ruby's are you the tree question, her body looks like she was remade from remaining parts of whatever that could be found, the spine + tree
Can I just say, even though they made an error on her face shadows in 2:05, I honestly prefer that look. It's simplistic, it's smoother, and it actually looks ok.
So… For the Blacksmith, I have two theories of who her allusion could be. One is the Lorax since the Blacksmith seamingly speaks on behalf the Great Tree. The second is Grandmother Willow from Disney’s Pocahontas who act as a mentor to the titular character in similar fashion to the Blacksmith for Ruby.
Blacksmith, you've rekindled what Ruby loved. She loved her weapon, especially her mother's. Holding a weapon is never easy. Real pros are able to feel how was the weapon was treated and is treated, with care, or cruelty.
Now if Ruby comes out of her wooden cacoon state(?) I believe there two possible ways, she could have the same design and same weapon or a silghtly different design. For her personallty i believe that she could possbloe be happeor but i don't know of she'll keep her memories or not.
I think she’ll take her mothers weapon and become what she wanted to be, a daughter summer would be proud of, but the. She realises that that is who she is, so she does end up having a new weapon, but stays the same
@@R0ob1nN I don't want that to happen because I feel that is part of her problem. In her personal story, Summer Rose is akin to a god, and Ruby will never measure up to that. I feel this experience will bring Summer metaphorically down to earth in Ruby's eyes, and she might be better able to accept her flaws and mistakes, thus maturing into a more stable self.
@@R0ob1nN Honestly, what should by right happen based on the events prior is that Ruby needs to some how be a better version of herself. And one more akin to what pauljordan0203 described. @@Axel_Kasai idk, ive seen quite a few unique weapon ideas for Summer. I have a picture of one that is a couple of disks attached to chains that she can throw out like Kratos' blades of Chaos in GOW
I would not say a axe is a common weapon in animation. And when it is it’s either an antagonist or brute’s weapon, you don’t really see a lot of people like Summer in animation who would use something like an axe.
I have three ideas as to what will happen, two of which are more feasible, third is a left field nostradames level prediction assuming it was in fact her mom's weapon she chose: First: Ruby pops out, looks like Ruby, sounds like Ruby, thinks she's Ruby, but acts like her mom, at least in confidence and ability Second: Looks like Ruby, sounds like Ruby, but thinks she's Summer. Not a body swap, but like a young Summer, thinks she is herself. Doesn't know who RWBY or Jaune is Third: The wild guess, time loop. Ruby goes back in time and similar to the second idea, basically becomes Summer. For the longest time she fills the role (even fulfilling the whole "own mother" loop) but slowly remembers her old self, more as the Ruby side of herself heals. Fakes her death, lives in solitude until some point where she's able to just swoop in to save the others.
