If you do get a bench meter, I think the main reason is to get access to 4 wire ohms mode. I think doing even 3-wire (tie the positive together, and use 2 separate ground connections) will help with accuracy of low impedance measurements. You can also use the rel function on your current meter, but this will sometimes lock your DMM in the lowest range. Keep in mind that the bench meter will possibly have a lower value for the current source in ohms mode than your handheld meter, so readings will likely not be comparable across the units. I'm sure BZ knows this, but to other viewers, a DMM will force a current through the leads (and the circuit) and measure the voltage that results from it to get an Ohms reading via Ohm's law. These devices, (even in power off) will show different resistance values at different current levels, because (among other things) you will start biasing the ESD protection structures. You can see this by manually ranging the DMM to the 10 ohms range from the 1 ohm and seeing the measured ohms value will be different

I know it doesn't apply here because your modding the card but I like the fact that Asus changed their warranty so it actually covers liquid cooling your card so removing the cooler and replacing it doesn't void the warranty. That's why I bought the 5700xt reference by Asus.
You bought a reference card so you can watercool it in order to solve a problem that you could have avoided easily by going with a Nitro/Red Devil/literallyanybeefycooler card. Smart thinking.
thank you for the teardown video, I needed it to repaste my own red devil ultimate. hotspot temps now much better, used to hit 110c at 250w now its chilly at 350w.

Hello, @Actually Hardcore Overclocking. Can you please help me by recommending a good thermal putty for an RX 6900 XT Limited Edition? I tried replacing my thermal pads because the card was hitting high junction, and now the temps are insane. Alternatively, please let me know the exact thickness I need for good quality pads fit for my card (I used 2 mm thermal grizzly, which I think are too thick and not as soft as I need).
@@instinctblues8260 I had to do that with the RX 5600 XT. The Red Dragon version was not only running hot, had problems updating the VBIOS but it had a very noticeable coil whine. Same with a their Red Devil RX 580 card that I briefly had. Ended up exchanging it for the Sapphire RX 5600 XT in late January of 2020.
@Actually Hardcore Overclocking Which thermal compound did you use? i didnt knew that Powercolor use regular thermal compound, i thought they use Hitachi Graphit Pad. My 6900 XT RD Hotspot ist about 110 degrees, i want to replace the thermal compound, but iam not sure if there is thermal compound or hitachi thermal pad. thx!

No real global setting outside of xmp / docp. They're rated at those speeds but the bins are different so you're not guaranteed lower timings at faster speeds, they differ from stick to stick once you get into tuning.
I've been offered a 2nd hand ASUS Radeon 6950xt OC Formula but it's 2nd hand. I know the build on that is good from your taerdown. Would you go for one of the Powercolor New 6950XT over that? I know nothing!

@@conenubi701 Thanks, It's been a while since I posted this, I got some 1mm 12.8W/mk Thermalright pads but my temps didn't improve at all - still high 90C. I've since gotten some 1.5mm pads which I think will solve the issue, but still yet to install.
i'm planning on doing this to a 6650 xt red devil just to plasti-dip spray the outer housing white. does the other side some off as easily as well? also, do you think it's safe if some plastic dip got on the boards?
actually, there is a thing called too much thermal paste. you see, metal surface in your cooling and your chip, when seen under the microscope, will have a little crack, gap, air pocket, etc. thermal paste treat as the gap-fill substance to connect two metal pieces together. the thermal paste itself is a conduction agent, but, the conduction rate of paste is much lower (40-50 times) compared to metal. so, compare the thick layer of thermal paste to the thin layer of thermal paste, the paste in the thicker layer will treat as thermal resistance, and will make the chip cool down slower. this could be treated by tightly tight the screw on the board. but the leftover is a huge mess of paste around the chip. translated to you just waste a bunch of good paste for no reason.
You honestly think you're teaching this guy something right now? He was 100% right, there is 0 negative results from using "too much paste", but there can be negative results from too little.
It wont make contact if you apply a little bit i have 6950x here and when i apply liquid metal it doesnt make any contact only when i apply a thick layer of thermal compound

this card is such a beast that it also coil whines like a beast. ive tried UV, capping FPS, turning on Vsync, nothing seems to work. im still under my return period so im debating to exchange it.
I have two and both are not perfect, one has a problem with the third fan that occasionally makes a noise as if it touches somewhere but in oc / uv it is fantastic while the other has crazy coil whine and does not like oc / uv

Mines on the way its on Amazon for 1,599$ and I'm tired of waiting. Just need to find a waterblock and I'll be set . I'm upgrading from a 2080ti. So excited I wanted to stay with nvidia but I play mostly 1080p so a 3080 over a 6900xt doesn't make sense at the price point atm.
