Full build of Rye Field Model Sd.Kfz. 181 Pz.kpfw.VI Ausf. E Tiger I Middle Production Full Interior 1:35 (RM-5010). The video provide a detailed step by step guide as well as in depth hints and tips which I think will be proved useful to people who want to build this kit.
This is the first video which include the full construction, paint and weathering of the turret including custom zimmerit application.
I hope you like it. Enjoy!!!

I built a 1/16 kit in the early 80's with super detailed interior. It was a beautiful kit. No longer available as far as I know!

I've got this kit on the shelf next to me but even though I'm building models for over 20 years now the box is intimidating :D Your video helps a lot. I think I'll tackle the kit and finally start it. Thanks a lot!

It is definitely doable and I urge you to start it as it is very rewarding. Also keep in mind that the kit contains a lot of unused parts (if I put all together they can easy take 4 full sprues). Good luck and I hope my videos will help you to your building process :)

Definitely not a “beginners kits”, but I really liked it, I did a lot of zenithal shading in the interior using some of my miniature figure painting skills I have acquired

Great to hear! Painting skills are transferable I guess. Funny, I am in exactly opposite phase. I am trying to use my armour modelling skills to miniatures 🤔

@@GeorgeModellingforBeginners I started out with scale modeling funny enough and became bored, and used weathering,chipping etc on minatures then learned about all kinds of painting techniques like blending, chromatic and zenithal.....I own 2 3d techniquesin printers so I learned to use blender and create my own files

1974 to 76, I crewed on an M60-A1, so I have a real infinity for interior builds-I have this kit and the RYE Panther with the cut-a-away turret & hull version among others. I am pleading with Takom and AFV Club to come out with an interior version of their kits.

The Turret came out real well. I've got this in my stash, but a few Takom kits are in the way, but I wanted to see how you did with the turret. So far this looks like a pretty straight forward build. Thanks for the sneak peek. I'll check out the rest of your Tiger vids.

Full interior Panther is on my radar. The cutaway or clear parts options are great to show off the intetior and keep the model as a whole.
@darronhedges5873
@darronhedges5873 4 года назад
I built the clear option.No texture and 70% of work hidden still.Cutaway has texture and all part options,you have the excuse with cutaway to leave whatever parts out you want for a view of under fans and rear of engine.If you do get one,dry fit PE floor frame before you glue hull floor and sides.Mr metal color Dark iron is really versatile paint,you can use it as a weak wash over grey styrene.After buffing with stiff brush the graphite pigment leaves a micro thin metallic coating,that you can reveal with cocktail stick scratching uncured citadel or valleho paints.Good base for interiors.Used it on tiger,sturmtiger and panther.I'm painting some parts inside with Chrome silver and aluminium too as a base under the citadel air.Its less random,more precise than hairspray,more realistic than 'chipping' with paintbrush.I tried all colours in range,these were the best 3.Goodluck.The RFM mrap came,its scary as hell,but looks beautiful.

Ive built that tiger,the sturmtiger,clear hull panther 1st release with only clear parts for hull and turret,no normal textured hull turret option.The Panther i'm halfway through now(the best choice-i think)is 5019 kit,it has everything you could possibly need.(PE tool clamp's not inc).Ive also built thier Easy 8,have firefly on way from china and have the new ATV MRAP.Ryefield made a kit under name Revosys,one kit a VK3601 with most of the interior.Its a gem,overlooked too.They just released it again under RFM minus interior and a ton of major options in 1st 'Revosys' release.Again RFM #5019 having Usual turret and hull and cutaway turret and hull gives you it all and leaves it to you.

Ryefield has figured out how to add more parts where less parts would work. As a result, I had the exact same reaction when I just finished their M4A3 76W HVSS Sherman. I've been building models for 67 years and it was the most complicated and over-engineered models I've ever built and that includes 65 Pocher 1:8 scale cars that I built for commission. I did finish the Sherman and it's beautiful, but it sure wasn't easy. The Tiger looks the same way.
@GeorgeModellingforBeginners
@GeorgeModellingforBeginners 3 года назад
Call Guinness please, 67 years of modelling, well done sir. Out of curiosity how many models did you build? I agree on the overengineering comment. However, I have to admit that I never came across to more detailed kits than the full interior RFM kits. Off course they are not as easy as other options but the fit is phenomenal. I am guessing you finished the non-interior version of the Sherman? How was the fit?
@mylesmarcovitch7771
@mylesmarcovitch7771 3 года назад
I have no idea, but it’s in the hundreds. As a kid, sometimes I’d build one a week. When I look at old model kits websites, I just go “built that, built that” and so on. No, didn’t do the non-interior version. I want to build their Abrams with interior to. I have the Meng Bradley with interior which will be an interesting comparison.

I cannot understand why people complain about models having too many parts. Or ever we hav fought for more detail and now it is here. E old kit with fewer parts are still there, buy them. Please don’t ruin it for he rest of us. Thank you.

The thin hollow rectangle that you set from 8:21 (more or less), I found that it doesn't fit to nothing and interfere with the movement of the gun. Any advice about it? Thanks in advance.
@GeorgeModellingforBeginners
Sorry for the late reply, I was away with work the last month. I do not remember having any issues with this particular piece. Although I remember having some fit issues in general with the gun. Everything fit very tight and at some pieces I had to extra sand them down in order to fit. Always try to dry fit them before install.

hey. I've never built any 35 scale models. I'm watching these channels to learn and gain some ideas. Thus far i have learned that Tamiya kits are the easiest to assemble with the parts always fitting properly and the instructions always being on point. How would you rate the Rye Field kits in comparison to Tamiya? I understand the Ryes with full interior are more complicated but if i were to follow the instructions would i be able to complete the build? thank you for taking the time to answer me.
@GeorgeModellingforBeginners
@GeorgeModellingforBeginners 3 года назад
Hi there. I wouldn't recommend RFM kits to a beginner especially not their full interior kits. Even the RFM exterior kits look complicated (never build one for myself). Same goes for most of Dragon kits. Tamiya kits definitely aim to beginners, this is how I started myself. I would recommend to pick yourself an old Tamiya kit and practice some techniques (few at each kit). Then as you build up your modelling skills you will have more confidence to try more complicated kits. Interior kits are by far the most demanding due to the complexity of planning, paint both sides, build/paint subassemblies and attach painted parts (always something can go wrong). The sequence of the instructions are just for building purposes and you have to go back and forth a lot of times. Saying all that, I should encourage you to start modelling as you will have so much fun even if the final result is not what you would expect. I hope that helps and I wish you good luck with your project (whatever you will choose).

Hi Tim. I bought them separately as I already owned 80% of the colours I used. If I remember correctly, I only bought two Vallejo paints the 71.108 Azure blue and 70.918 Ivory. What set did you bought?

hey one more question. i was looking at the instruction manual for this kit the model # 5010 and it states that it requires a lot of 0.5mm and 0.8mm drilled holes in the upper hull. Are there pilot (guide) holes in the model or does one just have to guesstimate the placement of the holes?

Luckily they are pre drilled from the inside. You just need to drill them through. Very easy task.
