Wow this one got some very nice features on it. Love that you can download the app and turn it on like that. How far will it work from the phone? Love the electric start on it. Seems like they’re just getting nicer and nicer. The screen display is good size. Gas gauge 👍👍 thanks Gavin another fine unboxing video on this Ryobi. 🙏
Good tip on changing the oil after the first 30 minutes of operation. Never would have believed how dirty it gets during initial break-in. I have the same model less the electric start option.
@@GeneratorReviews I can see that easily happen as life or current events distract new generator owners. After use it's put away and forgotten until needed again. I can imagine the horror stories repair and service shops have experienced.
Thanks for the review and basic instructions on how to use this generator. My wife and I bought one for our brother in law who lost power in a hurricane. Now I can show him how to use it.
GAVIN, by far the best review I have seen on RU-vid, You are the GOAT for generator reviews, thanks I now am ordering this Generator due to your review, Great job.
I live on a 1 acre property in Alpine Ca. I run 2 in parallel. I have a 15 BTU AC Unit, 75" TV have 3 fans going to circulate the air. Of course I have a soft start installed on my AC. And they will run all day till it cools down. I have 3k hours on ech one.. I DO PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE ON THEM ALL THE TIME.
Gavin, excellent video. Absolutely love that you have the equipment for conducting electrical load tests and also have a quality decibel meter. Truly liked the how you conducted the load testing. I know this, too. If we were neighbors, then we'd be making, building, and fixing all kinds of things together. Many thanks to you.
Such a cool idea to use the One+ batteries to give you an electric start. I have tons of them lying around. Too bad they couldn't give us dual fuel! It would have been the perfect RV setup if I could travel with this and run it off my RV propane!
Which is surprising it will start the engine since a drill battery doesn't have anywhere near the cranking amps that a lead acid does. I guess since it's such a small motor it's no issue.
I think this is the best generator video I have ever watched. THANK YOU! I only have one question, why do guys wear gloves whenever they do anything dirty? I miss guys that did not mind getting their hands dirty.
Lol I don’t mind getting my hands dirty if I’m working on something. I’m handling cameras setting up lighting system sound it’s a whole different job but I don’t mind
Nice test man. I’ve been eyeing this one up. Trying to figure out if it would be big enough to run my fridge and a small 5000 btu window unit. The wattages add up to about 1200 for those two appliances as long as the start up wattage isn’t too high.
My Honda 2200 runs a small window unit, refrigerator/freezer, a 60 inch TV, a fan and a lamp all in eco mode. This unit should definitely handle what you are looking for.
@@dondgc2298 eco mode doesn't matter. All it does is drop the motor speed down when there is only a small load. It will work the same as non eco mode for full loads.
Hi! Great video and very informative since I’m new to understanding how generators work! Since the oil came with the Ryobi, did you buy the same brand and what kind of gas did you use? Please help! Any input would be great! Thanks!!!
I wonder what the carbon monoxide shutdown threshold is. I run a small Honda in a box that I can close up so the engine runs at a warmer temperatures when it is below zero. I love the remote monitoring aspec. As I run a generator to charge batteries for an inverter at an off grid cabin.
This would be perfect if this was a 3600w generator with all these features and this price point! I'm still leaning toward the genkins 3300w with the remote start! It's only $669. This generator is tempting but I don't think it's worth the price for those features
For the record, NFPA 72 (National Fire Protection Association ‘72’ deals with fire alarms) requires fire alarms to be 75 Db at “pillow level”. That’s how I consider what is quiet or too loud for camping.
Are you trying to say this generator isn't quiet because it's 70db at 5 feet away? 🤔 a generator is more of a white noise vs a fire alarm anyway. Even at the same dB a fire alarm will be much harsher to listen to
@@randybobandy9828 I was only quoting the NFPA. What sound level you want from your generator is an individual choice. I have noticed generators are “listed” from loudest to quietist as (loudest) Contractor, Residential, to (quietist) camping. A lot of campers would prefer the quietist generators possible. Nothing like twenty campers all starting there generators up at the same time in the morning.
@olumsezbey well so far most of the quiet generators are about 57db from a standard 23ft away. Obviously louder when it's closer to 100% load. Compare that to my old predator non inverter generator which is 74db. That's about 3x as loud
Hi Gavin. Great review and enjoy your channel! Thank you. What's the best portable generator do you recommend that offers a 30amp plug for an RV? In kind of leaning towards the Generac. Thank you for your input.
No tester ever tells us the damages of these things. Guess that proves my grandfather was right. Got to ask the price, you can't afford it. Thanks for the demonstration.
We don’t tell the price because it changes over time I would hate to tell you the price and then it changes up or down and then my video is irrelevant because the price is wrong so I put the price in the description just go to the description and you can click the link and the price will always be up-to-date Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
@@GeneratorReviews yeah that would be great. But I am looking at buying one today since our power is out. I am running a craftsman generator that I borrowed from a friend. I would like to get my own but want to make sure this ryobi can handle those two appliances. Do you know right off hand if it can?
I have this generator. Love it. The Bluetooth on/off is amazing for a small generator. Do you know if there is an aftermarket auxiliary gas tank available? I have one for my honda and I can run mine for 4 days continuously with that. The Hondas are amazing for reliability. Time will tell with Ryobi. I use my Ryobi with a 18v 6 Ah battery instead of the supplied 1.5 Ah battery. Works great, but the battery cover doesn’t quite close…
Hey Matt! Actually if you go on eBay and search for your extended run gas Ryobi gas cap, You could use the exact same tank you’re using for your Honda just switch the gas cap it will work with your Ryobi no need to buy a complete new set up they usually cost around $15-$30 just for that gas cap for the extended run kit. Great idea about the battery because the one it comes with doesn’t last long if you keep cranking on it Thanks for watching
The biggest issue with this generator is that to use the electric start, it needs to be in standby mode, which eats battery life fast. Even with the largest 6ah battery, you only get 10 hours standby. In cold wealthier, this is much less.
My bad. The generator has a standby timer that counts down for 12 hours I think. It does not appear to draw current after the the generator goes to sleep (goes out of standby)
@@NeverTakeNoShortcuts It's also worth noting from reading the manual, that the generator does not charge or maintain the battery when running, which i think is fkin ridiculous especially as it has no separate 12v output either. If they had to do away with the dedicated 12v output that many have to use it for charging the One+ Battery (eg via DC-DC converter) then sure, i can get that, but this is inexcusable as now you need to carry a second battery and a 120v charger for it. Pretty much any other portable generator that has built in electric start, has a built in battery, and will recharge it when running. It wouldn't have been hard for Ryobi to have the unit charge the battery when running, and its a pretty critical feature I'd say. Sure the bluetooth control is very nice, no doubt about that, but the lack of charging its own battery kinda makes it worthless.
For these gas generators. Is it better to use ethanol free gas.I believe 90 is ethanol free.I was reading arrivals that anything with ethanol in it can mess up some cars.I were wondering what about gas generators ?
Great video! Everything explained correctly, so everybody can understand. How about the Ryobi 4000w inverter generator? Very simple and with CO Sensor, also have good price, but are they good product?
Thanks!! The Ryobi brand is good it’s very affordable and they have great warranty, I like it. Just like most brands there’s something most folks will say but I think it’s okay 👍🏾 Plus you can just about find anything else Ryobi
@@GeneratorReviews Thanks for your reply Garvin. Yeah! You are right, there are things that any customer will lile or not, depending the person. Thanks for your advice, from all the videos that I see of these kind of topics, you take the time to explain things down to earth way so everyone can understand. Thanks! Keep the good work!
@@GeneratorReviews Just thinking Garvin; there must be plenty of old crapy old guys like me that like things simple. Taking in consideration that Generator (Ryobi 4000w) is very simple and seen specs is user friendly, how about if you can do a video in the future of that one, or a "vs" of that one and other brands with that kind of specs (simple). Only thinking.....🤔....🤔 Take care Garvin!
Garvin, bought the Ryobi 4000W, very good price versus the $1k+ everybody is asking for other brands and same wattage. I did your recomendation of changing the oil after the first 15-30 minutes of usage. And saw the metal particles on the used oil. For testing I load about 7.5amps or 8amps (fridge, 5' chest freezer; LED tv and couple of fans) about 800w or 900w, and 1 gallon of fuel, or 30% of tank. Ran it and went 5.25 hrs on that 1 gallon of fuel. As per Owners Manual is suppose to go about 12 hrs by full tank (3.3 gallon) at 50% load, but in my case it will go longer because load will be around 900-1,300w. Until now working good, and very simple and user friendly. One question; the gadget you use to show load, wattage, amps and volts, +/- how much cost and name of gadget pls?
I have the model before this with Bluetooth shutoff but not start. This one is pretty perfect. I love the app. Always worked great. It's my camping buddy. Remote start takes this one to an entirely different level. Do they indicate how many start ups you can get out of one charged battery?
Actually, it doesn't charge the Ryobi 1 battery used to start it. It's one of the few complaints I've seen against this model. It's not a problem for me as I carry a half dozen or more batteries with me and can simply plug in the charger once it's started if necessary. Great review! Thank you!@@GeneratorReviews
Hi Gavin first time watching your channel, very professional like the idea with the table to drain the oil and the carousel stand for display, wow this generator makes my 2200 watts honda generator look like an antique with all those features, cheers
Super cool little generator.. Do they have an easy way to drain the carb for long term storage? What do you think about the unit being exposed to weather such as rain/snow? Thanks for the great review!
Hi Steven The easiest way to drain the carburetor on the Ryobi 2300 is to simply remove the side cover and unscrew the carburetor drain let the gas drain out because there’s not a shut off storage valve on this model there is a fuel shut off but it automatically shut off the generator as well
@@GeneratorReviews The Ecoflow Delta line of of solar generators is coming out with cool (on paper) electric start generator that works in conjunction with their battery packs/inverter. As far as I know, it's not shipping yet. Whats cool about that is that it automatically starts to top off the battery bank.
Usually you can find them at Home Depot but just keep an eye on that link in my description when it comes back in stock go head and grab you one Generators is sold out all over
After the first oil change of 30min. How often should you change it afterwards? I'm thinking of getting a generator soon. I really enjoy your videos. 👍
@@GeneratorReviews There are several generators with fuel injection. The Honda 7000 cost $5000, and then Champion and some others sell a fuel injected 11,000ish watt unit that cost about $1500. Generac sells a fuel injected unit for about the same as well
@@GeneratorReviews Thanks for replying! Very good to know this. Was thinking on buying a ryobi generator instead of another Honda that costs double the price. The only thing is I heard that ryobi generators are only good for 1000 hours? While a Honda goes for years. Have u heard this?
@@GeneratorReviews - THANKS I just bought a Ryobi 2300 today. The Honda Parallel cable I have fits in the Ryobi 2300 but I didn't run them to test it because I don't want to damage anything. Cable fits perfectly. I did not buy the electric start model.
Anybody knows if oil has to be change every 30 min ?? It’s gonna suck to use it for 5 hours and have to change oil about 10 times if it’s every 30min ?? Anybody can tell me please
No, you don’t have to change the oil every 30 minutes that’s just for the first initial oil change, you’ll be able to get up to 50 to 200 hours of fun time in between oil changes, but I recommend you check your oil every 24 hours.
i just cant trust anything made by Ryobi. all my tool experiences with Ryobi have been horrible. the bluetooth control and that huge data screen look really cool. I like all the features they crammed into it but like i said i just dont trust anything from Ryobi to work or to last
