Agreed. This isn’t so much a Ryobi problem as a “clean your equipment after each use” problem.

Zooming in on the blades, it looks like they could use sharpening. The deck should be cleaned after every mowing where the lawn is wet.

Nah, not every mow, even when wet. My other mower need a cleaning once maybe twice a year

Clean it real good. Paint it, then after you know the paint is cured, try a ceramic coating on the deck. They say it works great for snowblowers.

Appreciate the video. Every mower deck has these issues to some extent. I have many. I avoid a lot of scraping by only mowing when it’s pretty dry. Might not always comply with one’s schedule, but it sure makes life easier if at all possible. I like your tractor. Wouldn’t mind adding an electric option to my place someday but I will never get rid of gas completely. Keep the videos coming! 👍🏼

it has been crazy wet. my Ryobi clogs due to build up as well, and I try to avoid any wet cutting but sometimes you can't help it.

Very cool how you were able to show the issue. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if a mulch blade would help too, the kind with the barbed lifter things on the backside. Chop the stuff up some more before it shoots out.

I have the 46" model and i havent clogged it yet. It has 3 blades. It looks like the discharge is too far forward.

Not sure if this will work or not, but clean it really well, then ceramic coat it. Maybe that will help

Plastic scrape tools, still would get under the build up but would be much moee paint friendly

Good video, thank you for the honesty. I would love to know if this happens on the bigger 54". Ive always felt like the 3 blade decks are better for ejecting but thats just my opinion.

Try using a grphite based coating on the deck. Curious how much of a difference something like that would make as i have seen it make a huge difference for push mowers.

It seams like the blade tip speed isnt high enough. I own a low end commercial zero turn and never clean the deck, mow wet tall grass and have never had it clog.

That's what happens if you cut wet grass unfortunately. Any mower will do that.

I have a Ryobi push mower and it works great except if i try and cut tall grass from not mowing more often, if its still wet and if i didnt clean it out after each use. Otherwise it works just fine. I clean out all of my garden equipment like my augers and trimmers to prevent rust or other damage. I figure the money i spent on them i better do what i can to protect my investment 5:43

Great maintenance video. Would love to know what you sprayed on the underside of the deck. How long does that spray help? Are you going to repaint the underside now that the paint is coming off?

Ad aa spray port like most decks have to wash off after each use. See ego mower or most others. I’m planning on buying a 46” soon.

I ordered the 42" tractor and can't wait to get it this week. I do have the Ryobi push mower and these issues happened to me when I cut tall wet grass. So, now I cut my grass more often and not when its wet. Plus I clear out any debris after each use. If I spent that kind of money, any kind of money on lawn equipment you can bet I will do what I can to prevent any issues

Does it have a hose attachment point to clean out with water? Really should clean a mower deck every mow, especially when wet. If you don't, the buildup will literally compost in there and the resulting heat and acids will eat the paint right off and then the metal.

Part of the problem is, per the instructions, it can’t be used in damp or wet conditions or rain. That also prevent using a washout with a hose to protect the direct drive motors. I had the same issue with my deck in short order. In addition to note using a washout, the deck does not seem to be well designed for grass that has a lot of moisture in it.
