I wonder why Polaris would make an Engine with Plastic Coolant Impeller, I now always Warn my Customers about that if they have an Over heat DON'T RUN IT and let me check the Impeller Thanks to You Bryan I have saved a Polaris 800 Ranger they use the Same Engine as the RZR. Out of ll the Bikes I have worked on I just started getting the balls to play with Side X Sides I've never dug down the Cooling system on one of these except till the other day so I never knew about the Plastic Impellers once again Thanks man That is why my Customers Ranger was over heating! On top of that Why not at least have a SOHC on these things I have wondered? They do the Old Fashion Push Rod style engine that is weird to me for such a high performance machine they should at least Change the Head and Cam Shaft Style for the RZR's. Anyways Great Video Bryan.
Hey buddy. A lil tip u may or may not care about. I have an air powered palm nailer. Basically it fits in your palm and drives spikes in for carpenters. It's nice small design works good for driving seals. I bought a cheap harbor one being this is all I use it for. :-)
+Jason Curry Awesome idea. I don't have an air setup right now so I wonder if one of the cordless palm nailers or or other auto hammer tools would work.
It would be great to get an opinion on winter storage for vehicles and small motors. The newly regulated gas seems to get worse every year. Keep up the great tips!
+movaughn20 Great idea. The best is to drain them and run them out, but at least fuel stabilizer, turn the gas off and run them out. Drain the carb bowl if you can.
Why did you just replace the seal and impeller? Not the whole water pump? Mine is leaking coolant and I'm not sure if I just need to replace the seal and impeller or the whole pump. Thanks
Totally off topic here... but the beginning of this video made me think... I've found through the years that (the heavy oil type) assembly lube is just the thing for re-lubing ratchet heads after they've been apart for maintenance... makes them smooth/quiet as can be, but not so thick as to make them 'skip' by not allowing the pawl/s to drop back down completely within the gear teeth. The stuff I use is made by 'Lucas' and I suspect it has an astronomical Zinc content (as they all likely do)... but any of the oil types should be fine. All my ratchets are the older Snap-On non sealed 'pear head' variety... so this might not be applicable to all. Just a light coating on everything is all it takes.
So I have a question when you rebuild the top end do you have to find TDC before you installing the rocker arms? A friend of mine told me I did have to do that.
Mine is leaking, from, weep hole. Steady stream. I'm guessing my seal behind impeller is bad? The tee blew out in voolant line and I shut it down immediately. Replaced tee and installed an aluminum impeller as well as an aluminum cover. But when filling it poured out. Should I have swapped out seal behind impelllar
Thanks for the video. I think I may need to do the water pump seal on my rzr is it necessary to take the valve cover off? Or whatever that is you have off exposing the top of the pistons?
Cool vid. Sounds like you are getting over your cold. On a totally different note, I know you are a gun guy so if you have time go watch Hoss UMC's video he released today about National Buy Ammo Day. He's making a statement about our Liberty
My Polaris is leaking coolant through the weeping hole. Do you think it would be alright if I make a temporary plug? I know plugging isn't recommended, but do you think it would hurt anything if I did.
+ briansmobile just wondering g your take on how to go about driving/maintaining a new car. I've never owned one, and was juts wondering what one should do.. other then not "beating on it" and breaking her in, just wondering your thoughts.. would you use thing like sea foam every few thousand miles right away? those types of things... it's a 2016 Mazda cx 5, for any reference. thanks...
+724davemo I would NOT sea foam it- it's not necessary at all right off the bat like that- that's what we do if at all on older cars. I would change the oil regularly and basically just run the maintenance like what the owners manual says to do.
+18iser It wouldn't work. Guaranteed. For that to work, you'd have to push the copper rim firmly against the case. Then the impeller wouldn't move and the guts of the mechanical seal would also be crushed. As is the impeller doesn't go nearly far enough before the shaft stops it.
If your just Upgrading the Water Pump Impeller, is there allot of Anti-Freeze or OIL loss ... when removing and replacing ? I want to install the EPI Aluminum Impeller, just need to know how much MESS I can expect? T H A N K S in ad vance.
I have a 800 liberty motor in a switchback assault sled and the pump shaft isnt turning with the crankshaft. What is the problem? Is my cross shaft broke? And how do i take my cross shaft out? If you can help me that would be great. The razor motor and the liberty look to be built about the same way. I couldnt find any thind on the liberty for videos.
Hey Brian! Love your videos! You should consider going to EricTheCarGuy 2016 summer meet up! It be so awesome to meet you. I went to the 2015 meet up and met Eric and a bunch of other cars guys from RU-vid as well. I try and make car repair videos my self but I need to get a better work space. Check out my Blazerguy1983 channel. Keep up the awesome videos man!
+BlazerGuy1983 I've tried to make it the last two years. My brother moved across the country during the last one. He needed my help. I will most likely get my butt there 2016.
+briansmobile1 thank you so much for the reply Brian. That would be super cool to meet you. I have learned so much from your videos and always look forward to your up coming videos. I have been playing with cars since I was 15 and I'm now 31. I am not even close to being as good with cars as you are but, I have such a passion for working on machines (mostly cars and trucks). I am currently a computer technician for Geek Squad but, I considered going into auto mechanics in high school instead of computers like I did. I have 580 subscribers to my RU-vid channel and I love interacting with my viewers and seeing how much my car repair videos have helped others complete a repair them selves. Thanks again! I'll be at the EricTheCarGuy meet up for sure next years and look forward to meeting you! Take care Brian! Congrats on the lift! I'm jealous haha!
