Toybiz did a few of those back in the day. I would never trust Hasbro to get something like that right though. Tamashii just proved they can, but they only do movie Marvel figures. Maybe Mafex could get us one though?
He's just a chromed out figure and character. He merely reflects his surroundings, thats why he isnt green, put him near green and hes green, people can stop their crying. He's beautiful, I'm in awe at the figure.
I was 12 or 13 years old when I first saw the movie that featured Metal Cooler, and always imagined him to be the same color as this figure. It never crossed my mind that he was green lol
He looks cool but the light weight is because they used a plastic like model cars to chrome dip it which if Done wrong it will be just like car models the chrome plastic over time will flake off showing either white plastic or yellow plastic or like some show black plastic
I appreciate the chrome, but I'd like a more budget release with just metallic paint. It'd be more budget friendly and fit better with the other Dragon Ball SHF.
I'm happy with how they did this guy. Out of all the possible ways they could've done this, this way is the most visually interesting and cool looking.
Looks neat. Yeah, the whole war was over teal vs monochrome reflective metal. One group felt he should actually be painted teal, the other part believes that the reason he was teal in the movie was because he was reflecting the surface of Namek, and subsequent media just adopted the teal look as a baseline because of that. Personally, I don't care either way, and it looks like they shifted a little more towards the blueish green side with the final release (but I'm not sure). Either way, he looks really good, but he also looks really scary to pose. The moment you scrape it even a bit, it's going to stand out like an oozing pustule. Also, personally, I've never been a big fan of Metal Cooler. Final Form is my favorite, followed by 4th form, so I hope we get a 4th form version down the line (sooner, rather than later). They could reuse a good chunk of the sculpt from this Cooler. I still got this guy, though, because he's appealing enough on his own. I fear for the amount of dust and fingerprints he'll collect and how much of a pain it's going to be to get rid of it when it starts accumulating.
Me personally, I was rather optimistic when he was first announced. I see what they’re going for, other than the tail being questionable, I could possibly see them reusing the body mold for a regular Cooler figure later down the road. I’d say he’s a fine figure.
I love the paint on this figure! Really fun to just reflect stuff off of em'. I didn't get the wart, but ... i did get a barely visible chip on his shoulder right out the box. I'm hoping custom painters may be able to find the exact paint needed to "fix" the chipping as well as protect the paint for longevity. Awesome figure! But, very scary paint job 😂
I haven't dipped on expensive S.H. Figuarts in A LONG time. The last one I purchased was the Monsterarts Gamera (Legion). I had to make an exception with this one. He just looks SOOOOO cool.
Question of the day: I also think it’s fine, the choice they went with is insane and he’s fun to look at and hit with lights. I feel like this paint job or design would’ve been killer for a convention exclusive. But despite the price, I am really happy with the end result on this guy. I’m really hoping they release a much cheaper version with less accessories and a less chrome paint job down the road. Honestly I just want a little trio of Metal Coolers. They could be released in a metallic silver or teal and I’d be happy. Really wish they gave us that rock, or a supernova accessory, cause damn.
This figure has alot of nice things about it, but no way in heck was I going to pay that super expensive price point, haha. Maybe if we get a budget release in a few years.
Being that cooler is my favorite character in all of dragonball. This and the final form have both been amazing. Especially when it comes to how they both look. Cant wait for mecha frieza as well
@@ZakjuhFinal form Cooler is already a figure but that was year's ago, they'd have to reissue him if you want him again cause the one we have now is scalped up to $300
He is absolutely incredible looking. I love shiny figures. He looks spot on as well. Very expensive though, as much as i want it, could be a deal breaker.
I had to come back after playing around with it for a while. I want to make the correction that the tail does swivel at each POA! The one at the base is just a little tighter.
I had ordered all my kids Christmas presents online and been receiving them up to yesterday got Shf Spider-Gwen for my son. Went to my car and was reorganizing the packages when I realized I had an extra. Looked and it said Premium Bandai, I forgot Metal Cooler was released this month and had just seen a review two days ago 🤣
This guy was also one of the most expensive DBZ figures they've put out. Getting him in hand, I feel like they put in enough effort to justify it, he absolutely looks amazing. But like many others seem to feel, I would also be happy with a non-chrome variant; he would probably fit in better, and I'd feel a lot more confident just messing around with him than the chrome version. Also curious, I haven't seen too many people mention the lubricant he comes soaked in. How are people removing it, just a microfiber cloth or something? I get it, but its kind of a pain in the butt, I haven't even bothered with his other parts yet, just because I don't want to deal with wiping down (and probably dropping) tiny oily hands.
Very much was excited for this cause it’s Cooler, but then Premium Bandai. Instantly killed it for me since this guy can technically be army builder. Not paying $120 a pop for an army of these guys Edit: For the colours, if he was a hint more of that blue colour I’d love it but it’s good
I was nervous at 1st when Anthony, posted his review on this. After watching it, I feel relief that he like it. Now,it's time to open mine, out of the box.😅
Really like the way he looks, he does have a hint of green which the direct white lights dont help to see in the promo images and reviews but in a warmer light or indirect light you can see the green my only gripe is the tail not being very movable.
I think hes fine with the chrome finish I always assumed he had that green tint in the movie because he was reflecting the colour of the planet he was on
Thanks for the review! I watched DBZ 20-ish years ago when I was in college, and I think I remember this guy's name, but don't remember this version from the show. He just looks incredible as a figure. I love the character design, and if he didn't cost so much I'd want to have him as a cool looking guy to pose around.
I love this figure! Definitely a top pick for 2023. I would really like to know how they polished him though. I've noticed after having him out of the package for a few days, the slippery feeling that he had initially has kinda worn off. If anyone might know what they would've used to polish something like this I would really appreciate the insight
I guess I should have worded that a little differently, I didn't think they polished him with a polishing tool or polish liquid. I was asking more about the way he felt initially. It almost felt like an oil, but it also didn't leave anything on my hands to touch him obviously. So is that just a side effect of the vacuum chrome (wrap I'm assuming) that you mentioned?
I just want them to repurpose this for the base form cooler! I want him a lot, I don’t care about this one. But it would be cool if they made a chrome gold Frieza to pair with this
I believe chrome is how he's intended to look. Id imagine thats difficult to animate. I view this the same way a super sayains hair is supposed to appear that its glowing when they're charged up surrounded by aura
Personally I don't really care if Namek's sky is the reason Metal Cooler was green-looking in the movie. Every time we've seen him he's been green in game appearances, on cards, on other merchandise, the character has always been depicted as green. The figure should have had those green accents, and from what I've seen in other people's pictures he does
Well yeah, secondary media sources are just going to straight copy the movie, and since the movie showed him as green, they copied that, regardless of the reason for it.
@@Zakjuh Has it ever actually been stated that Metal Cooler's supposed to be purely silver? It very much seems like speculation on the fanbase's part to begin with
I agree the tail could be better (They should have designed it like one of the shma Godzilla tails) but what an awesome looking figure! Even though it might be a little difficult when doing photography/stop motion I like the mirror sliver color. I think the green was just new namak's color being reflected on him in the anime film
For tails can't they just do what they've already done with the SHMA line? Like the Godzilla figures have a crapton of joints/segments which gives super nice tail range Honestly would have worked super well for this figure, given the design was already segmented to begin with
Given the Chrome and being p-bandai, i skipped this one. I'd be scared to ever touch him or leave him on display cause of that finish. I have vacuchromed stuff, and it just doesn't hold up. I think this looks cool as a stand-alone piece, but it just doesn't fit the aesthetic of the line. I really hope we get an anime color rerelease that isn't an exclusive like this. But hes such an obscure offshoot of a character i doubt they will be doing that
The only thing I care at this point (and hope for) is for Bandai to make a special version for 2024 with the default colors before going "all metal". Original color = the best color. I will buy two of those if they do it.
I'd want the original color Cooler too! I was never big on the buffed Cooler, always preferred his base and metal form. I'll pass on this chrome look, but if they rereleased it with the standard paint and plastic, I'm in for sure.
Completely ignorant to the character, I benefitted from your review by simply concentrating on the beauty of the product. The reflections this figure gives off is astounding with the colors of its environment enhancing the gleam. Thanks for this review - it must be so much easier working on a product such as this.
I think this is one of the few times Anthony is wowed by a figure. It is pretty. Is this hard plastic with thin hard shell layer that is used in other toys with this type of shine? Those are pretty light weight plastic. I do want to see this in person. And does it pick up fingerprints? It doesn’t look like it does. Does it need buffing to keep the shine? 😂😂😂 Overall, beautiful looking figure regardless of how it is as a figure.
I feel like one day they are going to rerelease this guy as a more shiny metallic paint rather than the chrome look. But this thing is so nice too look at
I have long, long, LOOOOONG wanted a decent figure of Meta Cooler, who I a very underrepresented DBZ villain and one of my favorites (I just love the look.) I absolutely have to snag this guy!
I just got mine, I haven’t chipped or scuffed it yet but I’m so terrified of doing so that I’m leaving it in the box. I think the spectacle of a figure like this is sick but I like to mess around with my display so a cheaper mat version would be an instant copp
Hate the price for it but i did get one, looks so cool! They really should of made the tail plug in the way they did 2nd form frieza damn i hate that part about it
This a great release, and with SHF Full Power Frieza coming out, with SSJ 3.0 Goku, 24000 Vegeta, and Cui. Tamashi Nations is really liking Namek Characters right now
Hey, just figured I'd check in for an update if you keep these after reviewing. Might be a bit early still, but have you noticed any signs of deterioration on the chrome paint? It's the one thing that's kind of been scaring me off from getting this guy.
I love the chrome look here but would never want a figure like this, seems like a nightmare to keep fingeeprints off of and wpuld rather have a matte anime paint job (and hopefully hes cheaper if and when they release one). As far as a tail goes, I feel like there should be a solid one piece tail in a decent more neutral pose and a tail like this one, where we could articulate it.. tho honestly I feel like they could always do better, especially with this one and how segmented it is, kinda seems like it should be way easier to pull off a good articulated tail with the articulation hidden within the sculpt.
I got both Jiren sh figures and he's my fav character but i'm ngl METAL COOLER.... best sculpted db character yet, I don't think they can top how clean it's they cooked, look at bro shine
Yea I loved it rly got me reinvigorated into the line, the new ss goku made me happy but this rly put it over the top for me strong close out to and up and down year for the king
Been waiting for this review. Really important when it comes to higher priced figs like this. Speaking of expensive figs, will you be getting the SH Figuarts Kaido? That's another figure your review will be of high importance.
As someone who owns several cloth myths, I'm deathly afraid of any Bandai chrome paint. (Besides, even though I like the look, I feel Bandai went way overboard in the _shininess_ department. This is a very hard figure to photograph)
I like the concept, but I feel like it'll be way too easy to ruin the paint work and then it'll look really bad. It looks great, but I don't like having to be super careful when handling an action figure.
places like hobby genki had it for far less i think, though what deterred me is the potential wear from posing since i like to change my collection up pretty often.
I like the chrome look but wish he was cheaper. Also I think the segmented tail with the ball pegs looks way more noticeable due to colors. But yeah the figure looks awesome as a figure and would look super cool on the shelf.
I agree with the tail. It looks horrible, and I'm not sure why they don't use sculpted tails. The 4th form frieza has one, and it looks infinitely better than any articulated tails
I think it would’ve made a ton more sense to just do a cheaper metallic green paint job just because this is the one figure in the line they’ve advertised for army building, but then they also made it the most expensive (besides massive ones) one yet. It looks badass and I absolutely dig the chrome, but it still seems like a weird call for that army building reason
You forgot to tell the package does have a metallic background and a set of instructions which they stopped doing a bit ago. Mine doesn’t have leftovers like your on the side. You didn’t say how it doesn’t show fingerprints and how lightweight is. Anthony got blinded by its shininess.
