It's so funny when you think about it. The Roys pretend to be old money when she is the real deal. She also represents the liberal wealthy elite who are just as fallible as the conservative Roy family. While she may do some virtue-signaling progressive politics and has alleged beliefs, don't kid yourself that she is on our side. She is not on the side of the common people and she is just as guilty of being a depraved greedy corporate tumor. I think it's funny that the Pierces are supposed to be more down to earth when they are actually somehow more insufferable. That episode where they had dinner and she pretended to cook the meal her chef made, that is what clued audiences to who she really is. Just as bad and vicious as the Roys but hides under a fake veneer of being one with the common man and a humble nice old grandmother

It is obvious that Roman is the only one that had experience in negotiation, his siblings reveal all their cards (hate Logan, divorce Tom, first to say a number) and frame themselves in a bidding war. They even gave half a billion to end the conversation.

@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ it isn't as much the revelation of the information (Pierce probably did their due diligence before accepting to sell and knew about the feud) it's about the framing, Nan kept insinuating they were losing money with the fertiliser joke etc. So she gave a good indication that she was open to a bigger number and in a few remarks she made them say that they were fighting their father. There was no clarity at all, Nan choose very carefully what she revealed and what she didn't, did she ever say "Oh your father went from 7 to 6 so I guess your 8 looks pretty good now" ? No, why would she? she always kept what the other one offered a mystery and played mind games "all these numbers 8, 9 what's next? " the kids had already played all their card by that point. They said themselves they would make a better offer no matter what, they gave her actual numbers (and she never did) , they tried to convince her. The point of negotiation is to get what you want, they wanted to piss off their dad, Logan wanted Pierce. I'm just saying that Roman would have get out with a better deal than 3 billion higher than market value if his siblings didn't treat the opposite side of the table as friends.

Roman is very expert at negotiation. Like how he offered his mom to pay below 50 million dollars on investment under Logan's command and his mom agree to pay 20 million dollars and Christmas visit? And then with that Turkish men? All of them happened on Season 2.

@@margarethmichelina5146 Even getting Matsson onboard was his doing, and yet also his undoing. His crowning "achievement" in season 3, literal seconds before the dick pic, was getting the GoJo merger through - the precursor for it turning into a full-blown acquisition.

Because Roman is the only one among the three who is very good at negotiation. We saw how he was very good at negotiating in Season 2. His strategy at negotiation is starting with friendly conversations and then in the middle, he's slowly giving them lower numbers until they reach the right number to negotiate with. Kendall is also good at negotation but he mostly becomes aggresive, yapping and will raise his voice when he doesn't get his way. Also, he will act childish later like he failed Vaulter deal in Season One. However, despite they are on "war" with Logan, only Roman who keeps his mouth shut to the Pierce while both of Kendall and Shiv tells how much they hate Logan and Shiv is telling that she's going to divorce Tom even though we know Nan is baiting her. Rule #1 in Business World: You don't tell your own personal life to the others! And Shiv doesn't get it as she is indeed clueless on business. She is a spoiled Princess who thinks that everyone should hail to her, listen to her and thinks she's above everyone while in reality, everyone is using her just because she's the daughter of the billionaire. From Gil and Nate who want to use her to destroy Logan politically, to Tom who uses her to gain his social status, to Mattson who also uses her to tear her brothers apart and even Logan used her to make sure she won't go away from him. Even Nan and Rhea wanted to use her also but they both failed.

This is why I could never be a negotiator. I didn't even catch that Roman was masterfully talking between lines (only got that from the comments) and that the other two siblings were oversharing. The only thing I got was "omg, Roman is so rude, now she definitely won't work with them".

Roman is actually a good negotiator. His strategy is, being friendly to the client first and then later he will offer the numbers from lowest number to the average number. Kendall and Shiv are mostly too direct especially Shiv is always using her feelings for sympathy which is a big no no in business. And Shiv is totally clueless in business world as she mostly using politic as it was her job before as Political consultant. Roman was actually the only siblings who took management training even before he entered the company as they mentioned it many times (not including when he got punished to go to BrightStar Management training after snitching to The Pierces) We never heard how Kendall even going to the company but all I know is he ever went to Shanghai on business term if I'm not wrong.

She pretends she's better than the Roys, but I think she makes her staff work more than they should back in season 2, she says it's not about the money, then she turns around and demands way more money than Pierce is worth. She seems super arrogant, telling the Roys she could gift them bottles of expensive wine because they may well be jam to her. She just sounds like a terrible boss who frames herself as some sort of beacon of integrity while making you work more than you should without raising what she pays you.

Everyone saying Roman is ThE OnLy NeGotiaTor has lost the plot. The point is that they each have specific strengths and together they can make a deal happen. Note that there WAS no deal at the beginning of the scene. Nan is effectively saying "make it a no brainer for me." Logan negotiates the strategic component "our dad will fuck you" Shiv negotiates the people (employees component) "I'm getting a divorce" i.e. no staff shakeups Roman is, of course, the numbers guy. All three needed to be there for a deal to be possible. That said, Nan is the only real negotiator in the room.
