I'm sometimes asked about wood finishing, staining, varnishing, that kind of thing. So this is an episode I put together to share some of the tips and tricks I've picked up over the years. Hope you find this helpful.
Hi, thanks for the information on finishes. I am soon to be at the apply a finish to the scratch built Tenor Ukelele I have been building since mid April. I am certain I want to use a rub or wipe on finish, but I have no experience at all with any of them, regardless of being an oil or a poly. I've heard great things about Miniwax Tung oil, Otis oil, even Danish and Teak oil plus there are those that swear by Tru oil which is actually a wipe on varnish of some formulation. I can't exactly afford to try them all on samples so what are your thoughts on my dilemma? I should also add what the wood consists of because that can have an impact on choice. Therefore, the top or soundboard and back of the instrument is a Redwood that has a very deep coloration. The sides are Ambrosia Maple although none of what the distinction Ambrosia indicates is on or in either side piece. The neck is Cherry and lastly the Fretboard and Bridge are Rosewood. Thanks...
