Don't forget in light of the condition of the mast foot, to check up inside the mast where fittings, and especially the mast head fitting, is fixed to the mast. In fact a good idea to renew rivets and any S steel bolts, with certified material while your at it, they wont break the bank, but could save your life. Hi, I am quick to look at people’s work and be amazed at how beautiful it is, and I forget that at some point in time, they had to learn how to do it and the work wasn’t as beautiful then. @@SailingArtha Don't make too much of a fuss about making things look perfect. Do your best and move on. Try following Sam Holmes. He's a clever guy who comes up with very workable solutions, even though they tend to look a bit rough sometimes. That said, it warmed my heart to see how beautiful your wiring came out. Smart move having a pro do that one. Who did it? Was it the guy who was discussing your rudder? Seems like a super sharp guy. Was his accent South African?

Interesting! The boat is already heavy on the sail area (LOA is 37.5 with the bowsprit and boomkin, but the waterline is only 26 feet). A typical 26’ waterline boat has a hull speed of 5 knots. The hull speed for the BCC is 6.9 knots! I think at that point, exceeding hull speed could be considered criminal 😂 haha

Love your optimism. The crane got stuck in the mud and only days (or weeks?) later did it pull the mast but the timing was still perfect for you. There is something weird about clevis pins and standing rigging that cause otherwise perfectly normal people to pull them out and then watch in surprised horror as the mast falls over. I did that once with my first boat, a 24-foot sloop, but luckily nothing got badly damaged. Glad to see you overcame the clevis pin hypnosis syndrome and got the mast out cleanly.

I’m getting excited too!! I had a delay in another order of epoxy, which I need to fair the hull. But soon, maybe in the next two weeks, I’ll have barrier coat on the hull. And then it gets real real haha

I saw some awesome worm clamps online, the band is solid on the inside, but still works like a worm gear. Being solid, there is less stress on the part that is clamped. Plus they are stainless. There are a bit more expensive, but work better.

I’ll have a big update coming out in two weeks! I am not familiar with boats for sale in this part of the world just because I’m not in the market anymore :) but many people will sail good boats down to the Caribbean and sell them for cheaper (fully equipped) because they are done with the sailing adventure. I bet you could find one!
I assume that you will carefully check all of the swagged end terminals for cracks as that is a common fail-point. Do you know how old that standing rigging is?
They are Norseman’s, not swagged. I have no idea how old the rigging is, but it had started candy-caning and several pieces were breaking off. I am replacing all the standing and running rigging. It’s simple to do with just new cable and wedges for the Norseman’s, as the Norseman’s are reusable and in really good condition.
Omg. You so dodged a bullet with the taking the stays off… one I didn’t dodge myself, but fortunately the metaphoric bullet barely drew blood. I was, years ago, in the mast removal stage. I worked at the boatyard and brought the boat over before the workday started. The yard manager told me, emphatically, to loosen all turnbuckles but do NOT remove any pins. I didn’t listen… thinking who knows what… you know where this is going: took the head stay off, port forward lower, port shroud, then doing the aft shroud started hearing a tic……tic……tic…..tic….tic…tic..tic.tic.tic… looked up wondering what the sound was to see how much of an complete moron I was. Timber!! Into the water. Crash…. And the only damage was the teak handrail that needed to be replaced anyways. Way better to be lucky than good!! Anyways.. keep being amazing!!

I've pulled and installed a mast on a Falmouth Cutter 22, and installed one on an Alajuela 38... that crane is WILDLY overkill for pulling a mast! :D I hope they had other jobs for it! What are you going to use for the material for the new step? I hear phenolic or something like G10 works well.
A steel boat needed to be removed via two cranes so I piggy-backed off that contract. I’ll be replacing with another wooden step wrapped in epoxy. G10 is great but there were several reasons why I didn’t opt for it, price being one of them.
Here almost every were in Scandinavia dey take mast of every winter.they put boat in some warm place . but why you see meny broken mast i think why they never take the mast of maybe i wrong
A very dodgy looking looking mast and rigging, you've gone this far renew the lot, it'll never be cheaper or easier. If that old mast fails, you're new rigging will go West with it.
The mast is in really good condition. I have sanded down the paint and I’ll show footage of it later. I had already ordered new rigging in prep for the mast removal because yes, it does need to be replaced
