This is a quick look into what the process was for repairing my stern tube and installing my cutless bearing, building the standing rigging, and fairing the hull. I’m also now an affiliate for Coppercoat and Total Boat. I’ll be doing some little promo clips to explain why I like these products, but for now you can get a discount (and I’ll make a tiny commission) if you use the links below.

😀 Welcome to Sailing Artha 😀
Hi there, my name is Nicole, and my single-handed journey began in 2022 on a Columbia 26. It now continues on my new boat, a 28’ Bristol Channel Cutter named Artha (the name translates to “that which allows one to pursue her dream.”) I’m on a giant adventure of seeing the world and leaving it a better place! Thanks for sharing your adventures in getting Artha ready to go to sea again. I'm really enjoying your work, Nicole. It looked like Kaijin was walking the perimeter keeping you safe. What a great companion.

I’m impressed that you are doing the standing rigging yourself. Most would have it done professionally. Very cool, you seem to have it down. Doing it correctly. Love your show Caption Dr Dodge. 👍🏼😎

Having replaced all of the standing rigging on my Glander Cay 23 using the two bolt copper sleeve compressor, I can appreciate the amount of work that is going into the rigging of the BC Cutter.

The bottom piece of the mast is now a work of art! . 😀 . . When I was building houses, there were difficulties and drawbacks to the work, but there was one thing that made it worthwhile. At the end of the day, we'd put the tools away and clean up the jobsite. Then we would stand back and just look at what we had built. For example we might be seeing that now, on top of the walls, there was a roof framed that was not there when we arrived that morning on the jobsite. There was a great feeling of satisfaction in that. Nicole, I trust you are doing that now, when you get to the end of the day. Just look at what you did. Appreciate that something is there now that wasn't there before. Go ahead and bask in it and be pleased with your progress. KEEP GETTING AFTER IT, NICOLE!

I'm so happy for you, sounds like you're getting close to your goal. New swageless rigging...envy, envy. Hoping to drop my mast this Summer, fingers crossed. The awesome thing is all the great people you meet along the way. Fairwinds and rolling seas.

The swageless rigging was a huge plus! It made the project much easier and less daunting. I hope the mast drop goes well for you, and I can agree. My family just continues to grow because the sailing community is so amazing! Maybe I’ll see you out there.

You will have to measure thinks. A vernia calliper will help. Tin of copper grease . Cuttless bearing keeps out seawater & is groved lengthways. Using a vernia calliper you can check the cuttless bearing size & your propeller shaft, there is a stuffing box , also modern ones have a drain hose. Look after your Verna calliper no need to spend $500, digital display vernias are relatively cheap. Dial indicator is used to true engine gearbox & propeller shaft. Brupeg utubes are good with that.

Careful with the grinder eith no guard. I haven't used a guard in 15 years. Last week had a blade explode and took the tip of my ring finger off. I use guards now 😂

Cutlass bearings do not have to sit flush. Some people leave about 3/8” sticking out to make it easier to remove the next time.

I will be going to Luperon next month. I am curious about the cost of hauling the boat out or leave it in the water on a mooring ball. Do you have any information about that, my boat is a 34 ft sloop. Thanks in advance, Richard
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 4 месяца назад
Hi, I do include some of this information in my Patreon.com/sailingartha. You’ll have to talk to the owner of the yard here though, Isaac, about rates. I do know they can haul a 34’ boat out if there is enough room in the yard. I’ve had a great experience at Marina Tropical thus far.

Haha I agree! But it’s just the beginning of my journey. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, and fixing up the BCC is also an ode to the boat I lived on as a child. It’s hard work, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue and realize my dream and at the end of the day, I will be able to say I’ve earned it. Thank you so much for continuing to watch my channel. I appreciate the encouragement. It’s hard work, but I’m still enjoying my youth time. It’s nice to be able to do this so young.
