I figured I’d show you what it’s like to make sourdough bread on my boat. In the next video I’ll show the baked loaf.
Craig also comes by in this video and puts in the mast step. It was such a huge sigh of relief. Big projects like this getting done right makes me feel really good.

I would love longer videos. Don’t feel like you “must” keep them short. Loving every episode thus far!

Totally in love with the interior of your boat. Looks quite spacious too, compared to a lot of fiber glass boats.
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 4 месяца назад
Thanks, me too!! I am excited to get her ship shape. The previous owner took excellent care of the interior while she was living on it. It’s pretty spacious for a boat its size, but the bulkheads definitely break it up a little bit. It’s definitely big enough for me, and one other person.

Finally someone on a sailing channel using an impact driver! It’s torture watching everybody else do it a quarter crank it a time. Almost there!!!!!

HAHA!!!! Oh my gosh. I am glad to hear that other sailing channels do the quarter crank at a time 😅😂 that it wouldn’t just be me. That is so funny though. But yes, Craig was not gonna waste any time. Thanks for commenting and watching

I've never been good at making bread, partially because I haven't had starter and also because I did not stay after it till I got good. I made loaves that were delicious, but about half of the time there would be a chunk in the middle That wooden bowl of yours is lovely. That's some pretty looking mahogany, nice, tight edge grain. I am sure it is very dense and resiny. You're doing good, Nicole!

I'm impressed. Nicole, is there anything you can't do!? BTW, I do my own bread as well but I'm too lazy to maintain a starter. As a further explanation, I can't eat the bread that quick to justify doing a starter. I follow Perter Reinhart's books (most are from "The Bread Baker's Apprentice" and "Whole Grain Breads"). I have a few other books of his and some other authors as well. It won't be long now and all of us are excited for you.

Did you coat the wood mast step with straight epoxy as a moisture barrier and protection from bilge water?
@doncritzer2798
@doncritzer2798 4 месяца назад
Mahogany doesn't rot, it grows in humid swamps, same with teak......
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 4 месяца назад
No, it would be worse if I coated it because then any moisture that did accumulate would be trapped inside.

I'm just assuming the knee is fine but you still need to implement a comprehensive resistance training plan. Injury prevention. 👍☠️👍
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 4 месяца назад
I’ll have to give an update on the knee soon. Basically I had it drained twice and the fluid came back a third time. It’s now become a solid mass on my knee. My body may or may not absorb it. It causes discomfort when I bend my leg for extended periods of time. Once the discomfort gets too much, I can have surgery to get the solids removed. It’s a minor surgery with only a 2-3 week recovery. I’ll probably do it in a year or so. So, not exactly the best outcome because the knee didn’t get better. But it could have been much worse. I did see another doctor for a second opinion.

@@SailingArtha don't be fooled. If you can move around on it it can be healed. You need to start mobility and strengthening asap. A bicycle or stationary bike is a good start. Do hot cold contrast therapies also. It worked for me. ☠️

Quick Question. I'm about to buy a 26 foot project boat with plans to live aboard/sail but might have long passages. Would you recommend holding off/saving more cash and go for 30/32 foot in the long run (i saw you started on a 26 foot). Thanks.
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 3 месяца назад
I have no regrets about starting on a 26’ cheap project boat, learning some skills, seeing what kind of sailing I enjoyed, and gaining confidence. And when I was ready, I upgraded. If you’re pretty set on sailing, you have the confidence, and you are capable of waiting it out, then yea, I’d wait it out. But if you want to go ahead and get out there and live with what you’ve got, then do that. There is a balance between just sending it, and waiting for the perfect opportunity. I hope this helps 😊
