Very touching! Glad we did it justice!!! We have loved our time in Turkey and reckon it is one of the most under appreciated country for cruising!

What a joy to see your videos. The sailing community seems huge - filled with wonderful people. Thanks for your sharing.

Yes, that is one of the really nice things about the sailing community as they are always so helpful and friendly as the reality of "fighting" the elements puts everyone at the same level knowing we may at any time be needing the assistance of other and also everyone is together and at (usually) without status or egos... The elements usually put you back in your place when you get too big for your boots!

Best cruising Turkey tutorial ever! Even an explanation about those pesky Meltemis! And yes, Ellie was able to capture a bit of Cleopatra's allure to add to her own even more! 🌎

Turkey does seem like a sailors' paradise. Happy you're healing. Even at 68 I'm amazed at how my body can still heel itself. I did give up running because of my knees and back. Took a few years but I heeled. PRP seems more efficient. Good nutrition, activity and rest as needed still seems my best all around miracle drug. (after antibiotics, vaccines, public sanitation, and listening to my mother.)

Another wonderful video. Looks like you're having a great time. Wish the knee treatment had been available before I had my first knee surgery in 1983. Had another in 1992 and replacement in 2012. Hope it works for you so you can avoid surgery, John.

Excellent work in this video again John and Eli. It is so interesting to see how the geography of the region affects the wind and weather there. You did everyone a great service explain the best places to cruise the area in Turkey as well, which I'm sure many will benefit from! I find it fascinating to see the ruins now mostly underwater. It would be interesting to see if I could revive my career as an archaeologist there in Turkey (if they would let you) and what work visa I would need to do so. Thank you for the great medical advice, which is always welcome. Thankfully I don't need that particular advice just yet - touch wood. I love the views of the yachts and your drone shots, excellent! Fair 💨's and Following 🌊's.

I always wondered how is sailing in the Cyclades Islands with the Maltene (does it come often in July August?). A solution is not be south on any island, or its not enough?
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment Claudio. The Meltemis come mostly in July and August, and then become less as the summer eases off. The most important thing is to find a safe Anchorage, usually on the south side of the islands, or in a well protected port.

Intrigued by your mention of PRP. I have a torn meniscus in my left knee. I don't want to sound negative but if PRP works, why have you had to repeat it so many times? And how do you know that the improvement over 2-3 weeks was due to PRP, and not simply due to rest? Thanks for your videos.
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 8 месяцев назад
The PRP improves the knee function for several years, but ongoing vigourous use continues to advance and caused further damage to your knee joints. So after two or three years, the pain may come back. The knee pain from the cycling didn’t go away by itself, even after several months, as I had to wait that length of time before getting back to Australia to get the PRP. I would say each time I had the PRP. It was like I was five years younger And without it, I would’ve been getting surgery already. Even despite this, we have been climbing in the Himalayas and being very physical with the fitness regime.

How is it sailing in Turkey in July-August, too crowded like Greece-Italy-Spain, or not as bad?
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 8 месяцев назад
August was quite crowded in. Go check Bay in August, but there was always space available, and it is not as crowded as Italy was. Certain areas in Greece were also crowded, but there are usually anchorages and islands You can get to where there are less people and more space…

STOP PROMOTING Turkish coasts please, if you want to repeat same trip wth same pleasure 5 years later... Know it, enjoy it and keep it to urself... yeah it's a joke partially but not a funny one... I sadly witnessing for five years, quantity of boats from Bodrum to Fethiye has been doubling in every single year, in fact it has tripled in 2022, after the Ruskie monster yachts were banned from EU coasts.. Last summer I didn't even bother to cruise inner sea of Gocek, just stopped for overnight outside of peninsula and kept going towards east the day after... it's mindblowing to see 2000+ yachts same time in such a small area... I filled a king size waste bag in just one day wth only the things floats around our stern lines at smewhere in Fethiye... in 2018, when I sail to the area for 1st time I was amazed and older ppl told me "you should see this place 10 years ago"... Now I'm telling other sailors from all around as a mooring chit chat "you should see this place 5 years ago" 😊 I'm afraid there wont be anything to enjoy in 5 years from now on if nobody intervenes this unlimited invasion... Actually I wonder what do you think about this issue, is it same in everywhere? it seems sailor population grows faster than anything else to me...

Hi Sedat, I have cruised the Turkish Coast back in 1984 so I’ve seen a lot of changes since then!!! it is sad that with Brexit and the Ukraine, war, and Croatia, now being part of the Schengen, Turkey has become the place of refuge for many non-eu boats. However, even in the height of the season, we could always find places to Made more in go check Bay and buy October. There was spaces everywhere. This compares with Italy, where anchored dangerously close to you and every anchorage, and as soon as the wind changes it are bumping into each other and making it very unpleasant. So my view is that there are more crowded places and if the services are great, we just report what we find so other sailors can enjoy the same pleasures. Our other role of courses to share these wonderful places with people who will never sail anyway, and we are just giving them the pleasure of a taste of these nice destinations. The number of cruising boats is escalating all the time, and I’m sure this tendency will continue into the future. So these overpopulated selling areas are replaced to visit, enjoy and then sail away to a quiet bay. All by yourself, and Turkey has many of those as well. obviously, the other very sad consequence is the ridiculously high price the marinas now charge due to the demand for their space, but that just means we anchor off and tend not to use them if possible.
