After Sabrina's dad Ted arrives for a visit, she learns he has a girlfriend! #SabrinaTheTeenageWitch I Now streaming on Paramount+ Where to watch: para.mt/Sabrina
For me it means realising Zelda was a smokeshow. I'm getting to a point now where I'm near her age and man she's attractive. Sabrina (whose actress was in her 20s during shooting) is still my pick but wow.
I remember this episode kinda played with the fact that Robby Benson was the Beast from Beauty & the Beast because there was the running joke that if you make him angry, he'll use "the voice." The voice in question was the Beast's voice. 😂
Btw, Robby Benson was 41 in this, birthday in January 1956, this was 1997. He’s done various things including voicing Disney’s Beast, directing shows like Friends, teaching film in California (retired now), and writing some fiction and an autobiography based around his multiple heart surgeries “I’m not dead yet!” Lovely fella with a sweet family. He posts songs to his yt channel.
in this show, Sabrina's parents, Edward "Ted" Spellman and Diane Sawyer, divorced when Sabrina was 10 Ted confirmed that the reason wasn't because of the discouraged mortal-witch marriage they had undergone never the less, Sabrina wasn't allowed to meet her mother in person for the next 2 years after she turned 16 and awakened her magic, because Diane will turn into a ball of wax when Sabrina was going to get married (she was probably only 17 then), her mother was able to attend the wedding and meet her without being turned into a ball of wax thanks to Aunt Zelda volunteering to be turned into a red candle carried by Aunt Hilda till the wedding was over
I'm pretty sure that Sabrina was at least older than 21 when she was supposed to marry, and since she broke the rules of "no contact" with her mom, she's no longer allowed to see her ever again unless she's fine with her mom being a ball of wax
@@DeuzFazbearI’m pretty sure the writers forgot about the part where Sabrina could never see her mother until she was 18 because Sabrina turned 18 in her senior year of HS and there was no mention of this rule. Her mom returned when Sabrina was in college like 1 year or 2 years later and that’s when she turned into a ball of wax. Melissa Joan Heart mentioned in an interview that the writers were never good about continuity.
Loved this show as a child but it was the most weirdly-produced show that I’ve ever seen: awkward cuts, awkward direction, terrible animatronics, strange sound design, strange lighting choices, the worst canned laughter, and characters disappearing with zero explanation. In a way though, all of these factors contributed to its whackiness and otherworldly tone.
@@nickimillennium The Salem puppet was much better from season 2 on. And I think they were ahead of their time in sparingly using a laugh track before the single camera sitcom revolution. The show had no audience because of the magic effects needed, so while it had a laugh track it didn't over use it and sort of preceded the laugh track less single cam sitcoms soon to come like Malcolm in the Middle.
@nickimillennium3748 I agree on some of those points but can you elaborate on the awkward cuts, awkward direction, and strange sound design, please? Also yeah that canned laughter was awful. It always sounded like there was about 5 people in the audience and they were all bored. And I swear they only had about 5 separate laugh track recordings because I can hear the same ones being used over and over again every episode.
Okay, it's been years since I last saw the show, but between the parents, was the dad the mortal, or was it the mom? Again, I ask, because it's been a long time since I last saw the show.
There is some sort of magical rule that means if Sabrina even sees her Mom in person, her mother will turn into a ball of wax (I still don't know why.) Even if that wasn't the case, her mother is a very busy Archaeologist. I'm assuming her father is a very busy man as well, so they decided that Hilda and Zelda provided a much more stable home life where she could learn to control her powers and also have a life in the mortal world, socializing and being able to live as a regular teenager. (The reason was different in the comics, but I digress).
After her parents divorced when she was 10, Sabrina wasn’t allowed to set eyes on her mother at all or she’d turn into a ball of wax, so her mum went on an expedition to Peru. Meanwhile Ed was travelling with a “foreign service” he was in the magic book or in another realm. I think she got the odd visit from him It was never really explained As Ed wasn’t around, her parents turned her witch training over to Hilda and Zelda (who became her guardians.)
