I was at that game! Sitting on the bank with my mates from school. I think Kapil Dev upped the ante after this and India got to a reasonable score. We (NZ) were chasing and it came down to the wire. Atmosphere unbelievable. Hadlee almost got us home but was bowled by Kapil and we lost by one run. Game over. We jumped over the fence to leave the ground. Great names and great times.

1990, I was 20 years old, watching this on TV in Auckland. Beautiful memories of the greatest cricket period without the awful T20 stuffing it all up.

I like the commentary here. Not animated, no background score and cheerleaders. Just normal folks sitting around with friends and family having a nice time. No towering fences to keep the crowd out.

ये वो समय था जब क्रिकेट के प्रति हमारी दीवानगी चरम पर थी उस समय में केवल 12-14-साल का था और गाँव में बहुत कम घरों में टीवी था और फिर star sport ten sport ये सब तो और भी कम घरों में आता था लेकिन उस समय भी कैसे भी करके भारत का हर मैच देखते थे और जब मैच रात को देर तक होता था तो मजा ही कुछ और होता था सच में वो समय अपने आप में अलग ही था

Hadlee at the end of his career - tired but still loyal to NZ to the end.

If Tendulkar had not played so many ODI’s, he would had finished with an 80+ Test average and possibly 80+ Test centuries. I’m not just saying this because of physical and mental exhaustion perspective but because Tendulkar re-invented his game. You can see in these early days he was supple which was later compromised with the use of heavier bats for big hitting and faster scoring.

Hadlee had slowed down quite a bit by this time. Also ball wasn't doing much here.

It's a one day match with bouncer restrictions. Low pitch. Hadlee bowling around 130KM/80MPH here, relying more on accuracy and swing. Plus both Kapil and Tendulkar are good players of pace bowling, and have experience and skill of playing without helmets. If it were a Test match at the WACA, Hadlee would have probably bowled around 140KM/87-88MPH when fresh, and these two might have considered helmets. But Kapil could still have played without one, having had the experience of playing the fearsome WI quartret of the early 80s without helmets. Him and Botham were skilful hookers and pullers.

During this time period there was a batsman Sanjay Manjrekar who wasted four delivery to get a single to complete his 50 but not tried to make 10 runs from 5 delivery against same opponent.

Sachin, kambli, vijay manjrekar , navjot sidhu - they all started their careers around the same time... But Sachin alone could withstand the test of times for well over 25 years in international cricket. Others didn't last for even 5 years..
