Classic soft feminine voice, with complimentary lyrics and instrument arrangements. Kinda reminds me of how the Beatles intentionally constructed their songs to highlight their individual strengths into a cohesive unit.✌️
Is nudity automatically unclassy? Sade wears makeup and form fitting outfits that are sometimes quite revealing. The class is in how she carries herself.
Wikipedia-Smooth Operator" is about a fashionable con-man who moves within high social circles. He is popular with women and breaks many hearts. The lyrics "Coast to coast, LA to Chicago, western male / Across the north and south, to Key Largo, love for sale" imply that he also uses women to obtain his income. It is also clear that he does not hold sincere affection for these women, as Adu sings near the end, "his heart is cold".
But more remarkable is the fact that Sade is in fact a band. Record company wanted to sign just her but she insisted that it only would happen if they were signed as a band, and so it happened. Band has been together ever since and lineup has been unchanged ever since.
Sade’s live performances are amazing. Her band is top tier and engages is some phenomenal instrumental jam sessions. Sade always commands the stage and keeps the vibe in its tracks.
I don’t know that there has ever been a more sensual artist than Sade. The vibes are you’re on a beach. I still listen to her today and will play it when I have a ”friend” over that I believe could also feel the vibe. If she doesn’t feel it? She gone 🤷🏻♂️
“ Is It A Crime?” video and song is fantastic by Sade. Everything she does with that killer band of hers is amazing. ❤ The man in this is a gigolo. Sade is Nigerian/British.
In concerts Sade always performed barefoot, she's totally awesome and amazing!! She's British, now lives away from the limelight and has lived in Jamaica for a number of years now. She was born in Nigeria to an English mother & Nigerian father (parents had met in England), they moved (back) to England when Sade was about 4 or 5 yrs old.
She’s got a bunch of hits including Jezabel, Your love is king, No ordinary love ( my personal favorite),The sweetest taboo, Kiss of life, among many others
What a lot of people don’t realize is that although Sade Adu is the lead vocalist, Sade is in fact a band of which she is a member together with their guitar / sax player, keyboard player and bass player. They were already a band before she joined them, record company only wanted to sign her but she insisted it only to would happen if they were signed as a band (they write songs together so that made sense). And to this day the line up is unchanged. Now that is staying true to yourself and being loyal to each other.
Close but not exactly. Sade Adu, Stewart Matthewman (guitar/sax) and Paul Denman (Bass) were ALL members of the band Pride. The band Sade debuted in 1982 and Andrew Hale (keyboards) joined in 1983. Sade Adu is the lead vocalist AND lead songwriter as she typically comes up with the melodies and lyrics. When the band writes and performs without her, they are called Sweetback.
I remember reading an article a few years ago - I think it was in Rolling Stone that told the story of how when she released the album, ‘Lover’s Rock’, in 2000, it had been 8 years since her last album. It immediately hit the top of the sales charts just on name recognition alone, not on radio play of any of its singles. It noted how incredibly unusual it was for any artist to disappear from the scene for years and then release a new album and have it fly off the racks just based on the reputation of the artist. As many have noted….a lot of children have been conceived to the sound of Sade’s music.
Sounds wild but too believable for her. I'm gonna grab lucky 7 off a playlist to hit the right spot, cuz I know they just will. . . is it a crime, the sweetest taboo cherish the day, no ordinary love hang on to your love, paradise love is stronger than pride Are these from the same album?? They all work for me but I don't know if these are some of her older stuff.
I love Sade! My husband and I will be married 18 years in October. Our “first dance” at our wedding was Sade’s “Cherish the Day” and we had that phrase engraved inside of our wedding bands with our anniversary date. She is so great. I just love her music so much!
Sade ❤.. A must see LIVE! Her band is spectacular! They have amazing chemistry and Sade.. Her voice and moves and erotic beauty! Must check out LIVE, No Ordinary Love Kiss of Life Nothing Can Come Between Us Love Is Stronger Than Pride Sweetest Taboo
1987, 12 years old, trip to Sydney from New Zealand and I bought my first small “boom box” tape deck with my very own money…. And this was the second song I taped off the radio (the first was Pet Shop Boys It’s a Sin), these songs remind me of that time from the first note to the end 🫶 It wasn’t a particularly happy time of my life, but I love these songs)
Sade is one of the absolute best artists of all time. Hated her music when I was a kid, but holy moly, every album is incredible. Diamond Life is the name of this album (her first). Still, I was always a clumsy operator. LOL. I am begging you to do something that isn't super popular but that I think you would love, and that I want others to experience before he is forgotten. Terence Trent D'Arby Holding Onto You Live in London. Everyone will want you to watch some of his hits which are fine, but are watered down and subdued. This performance is one of the best you will ever see. I am putting a link in a reply to this comment (because I never know how links work on YT)
So many great songs from Sade. Your love is king, is it a crime, soldier of love, cherish the day, hang on to your love, never as good as the first time, the sweetest taboo, no ordinary love, kiss of life and more
1984 i was 8yrs old, even back then i was amazed by Sades' voice, its silky smooth, caresses the ear cannal and gently plays on the ear drum, beautiful woman, beautiful voice.
Sade has a bunch of hits worth checking out. Your Love Is King and Sweetest Taboo are the couple of really big ones that come to mind. You should check one or two of in concert videos. Look for The Sweetest Taboo - Live video from San Diego. rrrowrrr. ;)
I can listen to all her songs all day long. Cherry Pie is my most favorite song of hers. Back in the day she was considered top ten most beautiful women of the world. Voice as smooth as silk. Love her🙏🏼🌹💕
Pink Panther, I just turned 62 man your making me feel old lol. Listened to to this North Brisbane Australia, Redcliffe great times. I just moved to the Philippines from Australia about weeks ago, support from both mate.
Sade is a British band and lead singer Sade Adu is a British artist! This was Sade’s first big hit in states! Sade has so many hits, like, Sweetest Taboo, Kiss of Life, No Ordinary Love, Cherish The Day, Is it A Crime, and more! Check them out! She is legendary and her music is truly timeless with that beautiful voice and soulful jazzy sound!❤❤
Sade sings "sharp" which is what makes her so unique. Similar to Astrid Gilberto she has this beautiful exotic jazz vibe that will be listened too for 100 years.
I remember back in the day my uncle had me babysit my little cousins so my aunt and him could go see Sade in concert. I remember them coming home after the concert on cloud nine, blown away how amazing it was, my uncle couldn't stop talking about the huge rhythm section they had.
I love Sade's voice and she is so beautiful. One of my favourites is No Ordinary Love (Arnold T Chill Mix) feat Sherrie Lea. Such an atmospheric chill vibe.
OH, MY!!! NOW you've hit one of my FAVORITE RABBIT HOLES!! ENJOY, BP!! Such a mellow tone with a caribbean feel....LOVE SADE!!! SO CLASSY and SO SMOOOOOTH!!
I'm also 44 years old, and Sade has a HUGE music library. I've been listening to her my entire life. Check out No Ordinary Love, Kiss Of Life, Paradise, Cherish the Day, Sweetest Taboo, Lover's Rock...she's untouchable.
Check out: "Your Love Is King"; "Paradise"; "Love Is Stronger Than Pride"; "Is It A Crime"; "Never As Good As The First Time"; "No Ordinary Love"; ... (et al.)
Bkack Pegasus, When I was in High school, my best friend (at the time), two of her male cousins, and I would hang out at her house while listening to Sade's second album, "Promise", when it was released. We listened to that album, practically, every, single, day. I believe it was hers. It was, so, wonderful and unique, that she had to share the beauty of it all. We never spoke while the album played. That was a precious time between the four of us. Please, believe me when I state that from the debut album to her most recent, you WILL NOT be sorry. Here is a list of her albums in order. 1. Diamond life 2. Promise 3. StrongerThan Pride 4. Love Deluxe 5. Soldier of Love Please, avoid her music videos and the greatest hits album because she has many more album gems than commercial releases. Sade has so few albums because she would release them every 5 to 10 years. However, each album was ,so, outstanding that it would carry us through until the next masterpiece would be released. I reiterate that Sade's music is, most definitely, worth your time and attention.
As a kid growing up in the 80's we had lots of women in music that got the juices flowing.. Sade (smooth operator and sweetest taboo videos) was definitely one of them! Lita Ford kiss me deadly video was another off the top of my head. Will have to rewatch them now just in case you don't review them!
I love Sade. You should definitely do Donna Summer (On The Radio, Hot Stuff, Last Dance) or Whitney Houston (How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, I Have Nothing).
Sade's backing band for the most part was Maxwell's backing band. Check out Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. It is a masterpiece. I'm sure you know Maxwell, but when he first came out in the 1995-2000 frame, he did not miss.
She was one of my crushes as a kid. Incidentally the band is named Sade after her nickname which comes from her middle name Folasade. She is Yoruba from Nigeria (I forgot half-English) raised in the UK. The songs about a con-artist who travels the world pretending to be in love with wealthy women for money which is why his love is 'for sale'. Rakim refers to this song in Microphone Fiend. My other favourite song by her is No Ordinary Love.
I saw her in concert in the early 90's. So awesome and mesmerizing. You should watch Live Aid Is it a Crime. ❤❤❤so good! Also her best hits album is in my rotation!! I'd never thought I'd see the day!❤❤ the list goes on and on.
Crush time. First time I heard here voice was on my stereo (didn't have cable at the time). When I saw video at friends house was second time. This reaction makes it three. Love here voice, so smooth
Lost my virginity to this album. She was an Irish redhead called Mary, aren't they all, and 5 years older than me. I met her years later, she married an older guy who I also knew. We had a dance and a smile.
Sade is a stunningly beautiful Woman at any age ❤ thats my guurl 😊 Go down THIS rabbit hole, you'll not regret it! Sweetest Taboo, No ordinary love OMG soooo many more, go man go and get on it! 😊
BP, Its late on Friday and I've shut down my work and treating myself to your video reactions of the past few days. I am having a ball. Just want to say thank you for what you do for us. This is my Friday evening "treat." And, Love this song....so seductive
I was 14 when this was in the UK charts, wish i was 14 again...i would do literally everything different...btw although her name is Sade...Sade is also the name of the band.
