Safest way to Ash canyon's gold mine from Timberwolf mountain - The Long Dark

I absolutely love Ash Canyon. In my opinion the most beautiful map yet, also, the score is fabulous. It is so aatmospheric, just wish there was maybe a larger building I could hunker down in, Foreman's Retreat gets a little claustrophobic after a while

I'm 1 minute into this and wanted to say THANK YOU for only speeding up it up a smaller bit and not looking all over the place at the turns. I've watched other videos where it's sped up entirely too much and the person would look both ways before turning - making it impossible to see which direction they actually went. Excellent balance on your travel speed - so, again, thank you!

There's a fair bit safer and easier route I found recently that involves no climbing ropes. There's a hidden(ish) path up the side of broad falls. If you take it, there's a path leading to a cave. At the other end of the cave is a fairly straightforwards and easy pathway over some bridges leading straight to the final rope drop area. It even has some nice gear spawns, I got some wool longjohns and a bearskin coat about halfway up.

A strong suggestions if you are doing this on STALKER 1) Bring flares, tons of wolves waitin in stalker for ya. 2) Bring a revolver if you have one. Effective for wolves, might scare off that moose in the rope if you suprise him. 3) Flare gun. Possible mooses and bears are a danger in Ash Canyon, remember that. 4) Some food. You will find cat tails and tea incridients but not much loot food. 5) Good clothing. There are few locations where is protection from cold, be aware of that. Those are the most important i think.

Started Stalker in ash canyon, wandered around and found a way to timberwolf mountain, then saw this video and regret not having known there was a literal gold mine with golden loot in it

Been putting off this region until I had a few important achievements done. Trying to take it slow and explore. great vid.

It's safer to go from deer clearing to climber's cave, then up two short ropes to high meadow and then to miner's folly. After that you need to cross two bridges and down another short rope and you're there. No risk of wolves, no snow shelters necessary and no long climbs.

Started a new save, got lucky with the spawn near anglers cabin and went through the north cave collecting on the way. Just looted the gold mine and will use your path back.

that part where i needed to climb those two very long ropes it was so tought for me a blizard cought me in that time but in the end i did made it to the top and by the way thank you for the vid it helped me so much.

There's also a rope that often spawns on the platform left of where you deploy the rope. If you fail to find a rope, there is a narrow path between the platform and the path you came from which can be safely descended (but it's too steep to walk back up).

In my most recent playthrough I've been searching for a hacksaw without much luck. Searched all of ML and have moved into PV now. Might take a break from searching to perform a bear hunt around the farm since I almost always get one in the area then while I'm waiting on the hide to cure I'll head on back to ML and make my wolf coat. Really want the hacksaw before I go for AC cause the plane at the top of TW has so many resources, plus I'll need well insulated clothing.

Probably won’t even go to the mine but this is useful, it’s sad that you don’t have much subs

When you 1st get to ash from this path you can just go to where the icefishing hut is and then head to where the moose is look to the right side there is a hill where you can get to the 2nd rope climb spots (the 1st one is not down, but you can skip it) just climb up and head to the 2nd rope climb spot if you need to warm up the house is right there and a rope is there you can drop down for next time go up the rope and you are one bridge away from the the area with the bear. No ropes climbs that you cant just sleep before mush fast TBH. Also is only one rope climb.

DO NOT go this route once on interlooper as this is actually one of the worst. Just go throught the middle of the map than to the waterfall and the cave. You will only have one shoort trip up using the rope within the cave

I actually disagree with this route, it is much much safer to take the further Ash Canyon cave, up by Deer Clearing. After you take that cave, you will already be near the Gold Mine. Just hug the left wall and you will get to the same place as the 3 ropes in the video. Climb up, then take the rope off of the last rope, and place that at the rope mounting point, and climb down to the gold mine.

Also, that cabin that you left with in the final bit, does a rifle spawn there on occasion?

NO NO NO NO! Thats how u get youself killed if u are on Interloper. If i spawn in Ash Canyon, i get to the cave in 2 or 3 days. Regardless of starting point: step1- reach Angler's den, step2- head over to fishing hut and climb at Homesteaders (its the hardest part, involves 4 sprains usually) step3- rest at homesteaders, take the combat pants and the rope in the cabin! step4- climb and run to the mining camp. rest and warm up. (easiest part) step5- rush from mining camp (the bear wont spawn this early) and run all the way to the Gold mine. deploy rope, get to the mine. step6- Sleep at goldmine, then run back up the rope and to mining camp (careful the bear might have spawned) after that i get the hell out of Ash Canyon via Echo Ravine. Its such a wothy start. usually u end up with some food, combat pants, a mackinaw jacket, 2 arrow heads, matches + backpack and crampons. I rush out of TWM to get to the airplane crash in PV and get all the clothing i need. The above route is also good even if u dont spawn in Ash Canyon. Its the safest way. The route in this video is infested with wolves.

Quick question to anyone that sees this. Do any of you happen to be experiencing a glitch that doesn't let you warm up by the fire in ash Canyon. I was right next to my hour long fire in a cave and it wouldn't warm me up one bit. I don't know if this is a bug on the switch or something but if It doesn't get fixed the game might be unplayable because I need fire to keep my stats up.

It was messy and not the quickest way or best loot but i got there got my leg irons backpack and my animal skin coat now back to my twm base..cheers

If you go up the first climbing rope that’s in Ash Canyon.. you’ll by pass all the extra walking.. found that out after trekking through the way the video showed. 100% sure that this video is definitely not the fastest way there at all lmfao

A blizzard caught me in the middle of the night and even my bear skin bedroll wasnt enough to fight off the cold so i got frostbite and i forgot a rope at the end so i went to the end of the trail praying to the spawn lord to throw me a bone and i got a rope and a bearskin coat right next to it Edit: i got frostbite a second time

Oh cool. There no sleeping shelter for me. No wood to burn during this blizzard. I sleep by fire to warm up and rest. It's been a bitch getting up those two ropes with no coffee. I finally get up there after hrs of gameplay and a don't have a rope to get down. Did all that for nothing

This is not the safest way. There can be up to 4 wolves at 4:58, and up to 4 more before you get to the first rope you climb. (This only matters on Voyager and up.) At 6:46, if the moose is there you must crouch past him or get stomped so you can't climb (on Voyager and up). These risks are doubled if you go back the same way you came. It's better to go to Foreman's retreat (bonus material), though you must take care to avoid the bear there.

100 days wasted on gold mine rope path. Will not visit the area again.
