The safety man made ONE mistake. Should've capped off that statement with: "No I don't sign your paycheck, however I do talk with the people who do and it wouldn't be difficult for me to convince them that replacing you would be cheaper than OSHA fines and/or lawsuits."

@Rikkity

it's funny because many companies are wising up and buying off OSHA employees or simply getting lawyers to fight the fines because the fines are more expensive than the legal fees (usually), and still fire the employee on top of that if they were a higher-paid one for a fresh one. Has happened to me and a lot of people at an RV manufacturer I worked for. Got an injury and want to see a doctor? Write an incident report explaining how it was YOUR (the employee's) fault you got injured even though you followed EVERY safety regulation on the site so we don't have to send you to a doctor. Can't go to OSHA for that cause the documentation will say different. Honestly just quit before something bad happens and find a better company because you don't want to be made to feel like you were responsible especially if it's REALLY fucking bad.
@Cheesus-Sliced
@Cheesus-Sliced Год назад
@@Rikkity a lot of that paperwork is purely to scare people, it doesn't actually have any legal sway. In my experience at the moment (in australia) most companies are recognising that its very quickly becoming cheaper to just up their prices to clients, and do things properly every time, avoid fines and incidents because those cause lost time, which loses contracts faster than increased prices (if you still do a good job, anyway).

I hadn't even had the chance to explain that I had just hired in. You know what else bankrupts companies? OSHA fines for not providing basic ppe, especially if it contributed to injuries. The skit is funny as always, but kidding aside, there are two types of companies, the ones where Tommy wins this argument, and the ones where the safety guy does. You want to work for that one. Yeah PPE can be a nuisance sometimes but I'd rather work for a company pushing it, than one withholding it. I can honestly say where I work, Tommy wouldn't have gotten two or three sentences into his argument before safety man left, and department head (who does determine if Tommy gets paid) showed up to bid him farewell. So true!! I’ve worked for both types and run my own company now. My truck alway has PPE for everyone on site with lots of extras ( no boots ) I’ve got probably 8 spare hard hats that have never been touched, it’s cheaper for me to provide it. The law here requires you to pay the employee for the remainder of the day if they injure themselves at work. My lowest paid helper makes $20 per hour, one pair of eye pro cost $2, PPE is my cheapest overhead by far. Safety is still 3rd but everyone has to go home basically how they showed up.

Tommy stand up taller, straightens his shoulders and then they stare at each other. After about 10 seconds Roscoe says, "we doing this again, whippersnapper?" Tommy replies, "everytime, old man" Silent staring for 20 seconds Then they both look around and Ricky and The Safety Man hightail it out of the Tool Room. When it is just them two left in the room. They laugh and both pull out a flask and spend the rest of the day shit talking everybody else. Boss man comes in eventually and at that moment *only* sees a proper exchange of goods and says to both, "see I don't know why it is so darn hard for the rest of them to just do the job right, y'all take an extra 5 to relax or something. In fact. Lunch is on me today. Tommy go ahead and lock up the Tool Room and hop in the truck." ...2 hours later... Maybe this is why Ricky gets so annoyed with the safety man when asked to put on protective gear….makes a lot more sense when you think about it.

I had a situation with a tool room guy like this he didn't want to give me a pair of gloves because I didn't have the old pair to give him. The thing was I had only been at that job for 3 days and when I started I had my own gloves; I was not about to give him gloves that I bought and paid for in exchange for gloves that they were legally supposed to provide for me. When I told him he could have my gloves for $15.75 and a new pair he threatened to get me fired. When my boss who is also the person that got me the job to begin with got to the tool room he thoroughly chewed that toolman's ass up one side and down the other and by the end of the week I was running the tool room.

Our tool room guy got fired for giving out non rated hard hats because they got raises based on the amount they save the company when they make the purchase orders at the end of the year if they find cheaper alternatives through different accredited companies.. this dude got his manager to approve the hard hats by faking the certs on the paperwork they give for approval.. some guy got his head split open when a rock fell off a bucket and boopsd hin on his nugget.. they looked at the helmet for workers comp reasons because the osha is there just for that shit but the dude sued the company and ended up winning from the shit.. was a whole big thing, had a mid day meeting with all personnel.. was horrible, all those fuckers in one doublewide mid day.. could have at least done it first thing one day..

Somehow I knew the safety man was going to have to give up his own glasses. It was the only way it was going to end. He really needs to speak to the higher ups about that. Also, he could have pointed out that it costs the company more if someone can not work, and even more if they get injured. If someone gets injured it may be the quickest way to close down the business too.

Well, well, well, Safety Man , there's a robotic vending machine accessed via employee PIN that makes your position obsolete, and holds irresponsible workers accountable for losing gear. They put one in at the foundry but everyone immediately forgot the PIN, and had to get an office worker with a key anyway.
@MrStaybrown
@MrStaybrown 2 года назад
😆 We had that too, everyone has the boss's kids pin numbers, also when people get fired or retire their pin # still works! We usually walk up to the machine and say, "Cody's Treat !! Who wants what??!!" (Cody is a bosses son)

Damned I know I didn’t work the phone lines for long, but these videos are always on point. The alternative scenario is when you put in the order for replacement PPE and the company just straight doesn’t send it. They will pull every excuse not to give you anything, but they will leave the order open and just say they can’t work you in. I was supposed to have prescription safety glasses but the company wouldn’t schedule for me to see their optometrist to get the process started. Luckily I had just done my yearly check up and I handed my supervisor my signed prescription and he put in the order himself. Had to dip out about six months ago cause some jack wagon rear ended my van at a stop light and the company said I should have done something to prevent the accident despite not being at fault according to the law. And about a month ago one of my buddies called me to let me know my safety glasses had come in and they had sent about 20 pairs that no one can use cause they’re all set to my prescription. So it took them over a year to get my shit shipped in, and I don’t even work there anymore. Corporate is somethin’.

Funny thing was that Army supply was way less stressful to deal with than University supply. I actually got a pair of gloves issued despite not being able to turn the exact same model in (possibly because the supply guy made an exception because we were an Artillery unit and the gloves I had were clearly beat up. Edit: One guy at my old church had been a chaplain's assistant in Vietnam and he was given control over a storage unit with excess gear from a departing unit. If supply was unwilling to issue needed gear, that was a personal issue they needed to see the chaplain about.
