This pump was leaking quite badly from the pump to housing/tank oring. No hard parts where required to be replaced and all that was required was an o-ring kit which I purchased from Rockauto for around Aus$10 (not including the shipping, but there was other parts in the order to spread that cost). All the o-rings had gone hard and brittle. If any major wear to the pump was found then it would be likely that the whole pump would require replacement as I have been unable to find spare parts other than the seal kit. (if you are aware of spare parts availability then please let others know in the comments) Even if the whole pump required replacement its not the end of the world, these are very common and you'll be able to get a second hand one cheap or brand new thats not priced too badly.
Pulley removal will require a specific puller and here in Australia you can pick them up for around the $60 mark.
If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more then please give me a thumbs up, leave a comment and consider subscribing so you don't miss a new upload. You don't have to do all three (or any if you don't want) but it really helps grow the channel.

Mate, mine just started a solid drip from the front seal, and I was stressed there for a while. So glad I came across this video, I really didn't want to buy a reman pump, and I didn't know how to re seal mine.

thanks for your video. It helped me well. There are 4 holes on the front side, 3 are used for the bracket. Can you tell what the 4th is meant for? (it's been a while since I took it off the car and I don't remember. I also don't see any indication on the parts book or the workshop manual...

These pumps where used nearly everywhere back in the day so it wouldn't surprise me if they are all for brackets - kind of like a universal fitment but different manufacturers used whatever bolt holes suited them

The one on the bottom right has a shallow hole for an external bracket

If one had to rethread the shaft to be able to scew in the tool to drive the pulley, what size would it be ?
@Shanes_Shed
@Shanes_Shed 3 месяца назад
I believe my one is an 10mm thread, but it wouldn't surprise me if some early ones had an imperial thread rather than metric

Make sure the pulley is on the correct way. I had to get out the giant 3 jaw pulled to fix my goof!

At what point did you realise you put it on the wrong way? Hopefully not once it was back in the car and you where trying to put the belt back on.

Do you know if a 2005 GMC Yukon power steering pump is rebuildable? It is not leaking, it simply stopped working good at low RPMs (below 800rpms, like at stop lights. It works fine while driving at rpms above idle/800rpm. Thanks!

No idea, I’m not really mechanically familiar with those.

I think you should have changed the bushing as it should not be that tight for the shaft to go into it, mine was nice and loose with the new one. Ah you probably already now this as this video was about a year ago.

I just use the same oil that you would use in the power steering, in this case dex III ATF

@@Shanes_Shed yes it was, just a small leak at front seal, just put a re build pump 5 minutes ago, literally...

If you flipped the CAM cover over (upside down) ...pump works CCW instead of CW.... Most pumps come rebuilt for CW rotation, except GM L99 and LT1s,,, Pump won't pump when rotated in the opposite direction...
