I'm from Saint Paul, and let me tell you when I visited some areas in Atlanta, San Francisco L.A, Saint Louis, and Chicago it made the worst areas of the twin cities seem like middle class suburbs super shocking.
Exactly, Same goes for some parts of cali, they have such nice suburbs and houses there but just a few decades ago you'd get shot for wearing the wrong color there, i think the hood stereotype comes from Chicago Baltimore and some other places
@@lolsohard I'm from NY and there's gangs here where you get shot or jumped almost to death for wearing certain colors in the wrong areas, and I'm hearing Mlps and Saint Paul are way more dangerous than NYC including Bronx so if thats true then Minnesota must be extremely dangerous
Damn, I grew up right off Rice street. When I was young I didn't even see it as "hood", it was just how life was and I didn't know or need anything else.
In Minnesota it’s really confusing because, on a sunny day it looks super nice and friendly, but on the other hand cloudy days make it look like a shithole, I like it here but damn the weather really changes your view
Funny thing is i lived on hazelwood south of 94 with that as my backyard and the fenced in walkway as a jungle gym, if its still even there? Its been so long since I have been that way...childhood nostalgia 😥
i'm from midway, actually my profile photo is the university ave mcdonald's near my house. i don't think midway is a hood, but it is definitely much more diverse and historically black than richer parts of the city. it's getting really badly gentrified right now, disgusting to see.
@@mrhobs to explain that, it was kinda hard n shit, i used to live on the east side too, there was some shit going on around us, it was pretty hard but we just live how it is.
Loved livin in the eastside, but I know it was dangerous, heard gunshots everyday, my dads car got jacked couple a times, and swats even came to my neighbors houses cause they was doin some illegal shit. Even then still loved it, where I was born n raised
Rice Streeter, here, man. Ain't nothing like when I grew up there in the 70's and 80s. I left in 90 for the Army. Only visited when my parents were alive. Now I just Zoom call with everyone. Got no reason to go back.
Minneapolis/St. Paul look nice because there's not a lot of trash and the cities clean up abandoned buildings but don't get me wrong shit goes down there are some neighborhoods you gotta watch yourself in.
6:19 I live about a block away from that pizza place lol. Overall it’s a nice place but there’s some stuff that be going on. My neighbors house was shot up last month and the block gets shut down every now and then.
St. Paul/ Minneapolis had lots of small business that employed factory workers, seamstress, metal makers, welders, tool & die, fabric workers, paper product producers, food processors--in neighborhoods
He should have went to East St.Paul. that's where I was living at first. I used to always see needles from ppl shooting up laying on the sidewalk across from the Aldi's in east St. Paul. They had shootouts on the east side too.
@@ChiefLeaf89 oh ok. It wasn't too bad of a place to live when I lived there. I just wish I had found another neighborhood other then east st.paul to live in. But it's also hard being that I'm low income and finding something out on the west side of town which in my opinion is more expensive.
@Sarah Jane I don't think he's downing Charlie, but st.paul only has certain areas that are considered hoods or bad areas. And he just was not in the hood part. It is decieving to ppl like yourself who may have never lived in st.paul. to have ppl think that the area he's riding through is the hood when it's not.
Yah, anyone who says otherwise just wants to look cool for living in a "bad area" lol. Compared to many other big cities, particularly Chicago, you can walk anywhere and not worry about getting shot just for doing so. That sort of thing.
Driving around the capital is the hood of every city! Grew up in the community it’s historic ..Rhondo !! I will admit it’s not the same but my parents still live close to this area !! It’s not outrageous
It is & people want to act hood up there its very pathetic, seeing people from other cities move up there and instead of bettering themselves with all the good jobs they have up there they want to live a trashy lifestyle.
I was scrolling through ur channel, saying to myself, I bet n I dont think mn would even be on ur page. Then I saw mn lmao 🤣 But hey! Mn isn't that bad compared to other cities in other states. The littering is not bad, only minor as no where is perfect but glad nowhere as bad
Yeah i lived here my whole life and while there is a higher crime rate this year compared to other years, it really ain't that bad. We just have a huge drug and homeless problem especially in the summer
@@deadeyedblack2350 St. Paul’s violent crime rates have been decreasing since 2000-2006. Minneapolis’ violent crime rates have always been higher. The lowest it’s been in decades was in 2018 at 792.7/100k.
I lived there 4 years by that Holiday on Rice. We had one incident when that dude shot the cop and ran all the way from West side through our neighborhood. Puh leeze uh! 🙄
Anyone notice that maplewood neighboring north st paul is actually getting worse? I grew up there as a kid and it fucked me up man. All the schools in that district were completely brutal. Had been in many fights and got beat up and bullied for no reasons I was aware of.. both in and outside of school, everyone was just mean as fuck. Lots of drug use, vandalizing and burglary. And this was middle school years for me. After that 1 year of north st paul high school and then my family and I finally got the fuck out because shootings started being a regular thing close the school. Fast forward 10 years now whenever I return to the area I see how much of a slum its became. Everything looks run down, dirty and overgrown. All the kids I went to school with are into the worst drugs now.. even the few innocent kids that use to be my friends. Some went to jail and had very long sentences whom were just released recently. My best friend still lives there and he said his house was broken into once, his car was robbed and tires were taken. Sad and frustrating seeing your old home turn even worse. Maplehood now. ✌🏽
I lived in the area of maplewood tht was right next to northeast st paul (right off of Edgerton St. Semi close to payne-phylan) for a while and my grandparents continued to live there after for a while longer and it got worse and than better now its back to getting kind of bad
@@Lovelyinspo Frogtown is mostly Hmong now. It's one of the higher crime areas in St. Paul. The farther away from the capitol the better. South of hwy 94 is better too.
IM FROM MINNESOTA ST.PAUL AND MINNEAPOLIS REAL BIG FACTS CHARLIE 💯 U MISSED ALL THE REAL HOOD IN MINNESOTA LITERALLY THESE ARE MAIN STREETS U GOTTA HIT THE BACK STREETS AND ALLEY WAYS TRUST U GONE SEE SOME SHIT 💯
I am 37 born and raised east side of Saint Paul Minnesota you used to be proud to say that you're from the East side 80's and 90's now you're ashamed of it!!!!!
The East Side, the best side. Roosevelt Homes, Bradley and Minnehaha, Fourth Street, Mt. Airy, and Shelby-Dale. Grew up there, and I miss it something terrible. It’s a rough part of town, but it’s home. Now I live in Edina...I miss the the feel on St. Paul’s small town nature St. Paul AIN’T that bad. Rice and Front tho? Bad.
@@jenchu5681 There are some parts that are good. Anywhere near 3rd and Maria, Maria and 7th, Bates and 3rd, or along East 7th until Arcade are Sketchy. If you go near Mounds Parkway, Pacific, or near Old Hudson is better. The area is gentrifying so there are some really nice, fixed up homes around there. When I lived on Fourth and Maria in the early 90s it was crack zone, but it’s better now. But you got some really sketchy areas of Dayton’s Bluff and some nice areas. I myself miss living over there And it’s Mayberry compared to the worst hoods in Brooklyn
@@dejohnnelacy254 its levels to it tho bro i was walking thure north minneapolis like that shit was the burbs this was like in 2011 2012 im from the northside of milwaukee hell fr
"HAH Chicago? Try going to *Insert any rural town/city in africa" that's the hood!" Type logic😂 ain't no one want Minneapolis to be a hood, it's literally just statistics bruh
@@PJBovio I'm not saying this ain't a hood I'm making fun of the people that don't see their neighborhood and and say "you didn't go to the hood" in every video
You missed Midway. And like 2-3 weeks ago by Wheelock pkwy E and White Bear Ave same night some crazy lady was shoveling snow into the middle of the street and some dude was hiding behind his van door watching or waiting for something. Oh yeah and then by lake Phalen that night 3 ppl in full on outfits and masks walked onto the ice and disappeared, but that was probably some nerds or something doing cosplay 😂
I honestly dont think its as bad as people are making it out, Ive lived in san antonio, tulsa, minneapolis. and all 3 are alot "worse" imo. The worst I deal with is people smoking spice on the trains lol since they cant afford real weed, that fuckin stuff stinks buy some real buds.
Not really, but for about five months of the year you're looking at below freezing, a couple feet of snow and the sun going down at around 5 or 6pm. If you can handle winter, MN is a very, very nice state to live in. Just bring some cash though because the taxes are pretty high here!
The coldest winters of the contiguous states, but even though it is cold it actually doesn't snow all that much and there are a lot of sunny days during the winter. If you're not used to bone-chilling cold it will be shocking at first. Because the Twin Cities are so far north it does get dark very early in the dead of winter, which for some people means realizing that they have seasonal affective disorder. But if you can handle all of that, spring, summer, and fall are really nice. Especially fall.
I'm from NYC. I've lived on the east side for years. Still don't compare. This is the damn suburbs to me! I eat those! Only thing is the cops here are so damn bored...a simple route stop, and you get 10 cop cars for a ticket!
😂😂😂 You don’t know shit. My cousin was killed and my other cousin lost her hearing from being hit with a baseball bat. My uncle was also beat nearly to death. I’ve been chased by 7 people and beat with metal poles. My grandpas house was also shot up. “This is the suburb” I bet wherever you lived in NYC wasn’t as bad as where I came up. I put that on my eternal soul Punk
@@randygunn9499 That’s true. But my kid was in the SPED system, and I was very unhappy with the way they handled his education...It was more the district than the schools. I almost had to take them to court so my son could get services from another district that offered the programs that they refused to give him.
Minnesota is a very rich state. There are practically no hoods in Minnesota, even if you want to buy a house in the so called “hoods” (or the houses that you see in this video) the minimum is $300k.
That’s cap as fuck. There’s a house on East Side St. Paul rn for 75k 😂😂😂 There was just a home invasion where 7 people were held hostage on the East side and someone was killed. There was 2 swat teams called in 2 days. Tell me the East Side isn’t the hood. You obviously don’t know how cities work. Every big city needs a place for the poor people to live. And Minnesota is a blue state. There won’t be much punishment for very serious crimes
No disrespect to the hoods of Minnesota but this look really nice if I drove up I wouldn't even notice this was the hood this don't even look like the trenches
You def right, we have a very nice state, almost no abandoned buildings, trash, etc. No "trenches" just dangerous in pockets like most places, shits a little crazy now tho because of the riots, but i hope that changes soon
Anokas a suburb of minneapolis.... Has a downtown... Really nice place that still has a urban feel.... Brooklyn center or park might be an option... And to be fair living in the city up there isnt bad at all... Me and my girl are from detroit and we think its funny what they concider "the hood"
DMN DMN Check out Roseville, White Bear Lake, Woodbury, Oakdale just to name a few... If you moving from Chicago all of these locations you’ll be able to live in real comfortable, and still be close or within 30 minutes to get to done hood life when you want to... I’m from St.Paul but live in White Bear Lake now, good luck to you!
North Minneapolis, FrogTown, East Side St Paul, West Side St Paul to get yourself familiar with the hoods, then maybe in 3 years Maplewood, Oakdale, Woodbury (Tango Sushi is very good), Blaine, Coon Rapid, White bear lake, then maybe another 3 years Lake Elmo, Minnetonka, Chaska,
@@Emi-sb4qd please reread the thread. If your still don't get it, ask an adu to explain it to you. Minneapolis is a mediocre town in the middle of nowhere populated by mostly simple-minded idiots who have never experienced life outside Minnesota.
@GlockBoy Sota bwahaha. its only imaginary cleveland has well more than twice the murder rate of minneapolis and registers over 1300 shootings a year. youre an idiot.
CHARLIE!! YOU WENT RIGHT SMACK THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!! OH, WOW!! 😂😂😂😀😀😀😃😃😃😄😄😄👋👋👋 I wish there'd been some way I could have known you were gonna be here, I'd have loved to have met you!! RATS!! One of life's great opportunities, and I HAD TO MISS IT!!! GRRRRRRR!! 😠😠😵😵 OK; well, if you haven't done so already, check out University Ave in St Paul; it's the cultural mecca of our city, and it goes right into Minneapolis. It's up and coming; and coming even further!! The riots wiped out a lot of stuff, but it's still pretty cool. 👍👍👍
Worked on Rice Street for a few years back in the early 80's. The pride on Rice Street was second to nothing. Interesting that gas was $1.98. Keep voting in folks that will keep you down.
It's really not as bad as some of these people in the comments are making it out to be. Yes, some sketchy areas on the east side, but just use common sense and you'll be fine. Most people are very nice.
As a lifelong St.Paulite, I will say that the North End is a more blue collar neighborhood, but hardly as bad as some of the other places I've seen you capture on video. Ditto the Greater East Side or Frogtown. They may have their share of issues, but they could be far worse. I grew up in the western neighborhood of Macalester-Groveland, a mile from Macalester College, but my parents grew up in the North End and Como neighborhoods in the 1940s and 50s.
East St.paul is the hood part. I lived over in that area. I got the fuck out too! I ended up moving to North Dakota. Ain't no hoods here. But when I did live in st.paul I didn't feel like it was too unsafe. I could walk at night without someone bothering me. But u gotta be careful on the east side they have shootouts. Our manager at Bradley house apts had sent everyone a notice out that someone was shooting at our apts. Good thing my apt was in the back of the building and not towards the front of the building. Only thing I liked was that the Sunray library was across the street from us and they had a splash pad for the kids next to the community center. And the summer of 2016 they had an event where they welcomed everyone to barbeq at the park and police brought their horses for anyone to pet and feed. Them was some big ass horses too! I also liked how we had Cubs behind us at the Sunray shopping center. I'm glad I wasn't there when it got looted. I didn't like the school my daughter went to either, eastern heights elementary. I also liked how good their public transit is compared to where we live at now. I liked and miss taking my daughter to the children's museum. They have a program there that if u are a medicaid or EBT snap recipient you qualify for free membership at the museum. Which was sweet. They encourage you to donate what u can to the museum tho. I actually liked Minnesota better then where I'm from which is Kansas City Missouri. I didn't get much of a chance to visit their science museum, we only went there twice. I love their big central library downtown St Paul. Where u can see white squirrel's. I think I would have liked it better had I had my daughter at a better school, but I was new there and didn't know anyone that was knowledgeable about their charter and public schools. And I originally wanted to live in West St Paul it's a little safer then the east side. But I could not find an affordable apt on the west side. I also liked riding the light rail to Bloomington. It took me awhile to distinguish between the green line and blue line. We made memories living there though. With the riots now idk how it is now. But it was a pretty cool place to live back in 2015 2016 and so on. And downtown st.paul they have the friendliest pigeons they just walk up to u to feed them. and they have these sea gulls in Maplewood MN in the parking lot of McDonald's that love when ppl feed them. Before I came to MN I didn't know what a sea gull looked like at first.
You over reacting now foe St. Paul is not that dangerous last year was the highest muder rate in St. Paul back in 2015 it was safer it just more bussin back then it is now
@@jbgsaucefam704 I don't think u even read what I wrote. This is my experience. Do u even live in St.paul? I don't think you do. Or else you would know about East St Paul. Carry on plz
My wife worked at Eastern Heights Elementary back in 2018 before we moved to Texas. She complained about the lack of training on their computer programs for billing...she worked in special education there.
If its that bad you're making me not want to move there might tell my mom not to, I live in NYC and might move to dayton Bluff saint Paul but idk it seems like its more dangerous than nyc
