Sakshi Tanwar Makes Dhokar Dalna for Pohela Boisakh |

This Pohela Boisakh, Ranveer Brar joins Sakshi Tanwar to prepare a delicious Bengali dish- Dhokar Dlana, which is fried lentil cakes in a potato gravy. Follow Sakshi's step by step recipe and let us know how it turned out.
Ingredients
3 to 4 Green Chili
1 inch Ginger
1 cup soaked Split Bengal Gram
Salt as per taste.
Oil for frying the lentil cakes.
½ tsp Cumin Seeds
Pinch of Asafoetida
Pinch of Turmeric Powder
2 to 3 tbsp Mustard oil
2 medium Tomato Puree
½ cup Curd
1 cup Potato diced
1 tsp Red Chili Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
¼ tsp Garam Masala
¾ tsp Cumin Seeds
Salt as per taste.
Pinch of Sugar
Water
For Garnish:
Green Chili
Lemon
Coriander
Method
Chop green chili and ginger, and add it in the soaked dal. Add salt to it. And blend all of it. In a pan heat oil add cumin seeds to it, now add asafoetida now add the ground dal mixture to it. Now add turmeric, mix well. For the gravy, take mustard oil in a pan, cut filet like pieces of the prepared dhokar, and fry it in the mustard oil. Flip it to cook from both sides. Cut slices of potato (with the skin) and fry them. Take curd and add red chili powder in it, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala and mix it well. In another pan, Add cumin seeds in mustard oil also add asafoetida. Now add the tomato Puree and the curd mixture. Add salt and a bit of sugar and mix well. Add water and keep mixing. Now add the fried dhokar and fried potato. Garnish with Green Chili lemon and coriander.

sharani chakraborty We don’t add tomato purée as well. But I think they’re experimenting and it’s good idea to add curd! It will make the gravy richer.

They have put curd in gravy. This is has become Punjabi Dalna. Bengali Dalna Jhol is thin, not thick.

Add some 'Kalo jeere" (kalaunji) to the paste. It tastes heavenly! Moreover, the recipe is not as per a proper Bengali cuisine. We never put curd into it. Instead we make the gravy with some ginger and green chilli paste.

Dalna mein garam masala foran nahi pada. Usme dahi nahi dalte. Dhoka ko deep fry karna parta hai. Dalna mein ginger paste jeera paste, chini, sabut garam masale dena hoga hi hoga. Hing aur dahi is optional. Jo bhi ho it is not authentic bt it is innovative

Wrong recipe..We never use curd in dhokar dalna.. Ginger and cumin paste is must with garam masala and ghee.. This is not the proper colour of dhokar dalna. Bad research. And bengalis put sugar in food it's not only about ghoti

I have used this recipe and found out it is an enjoyable taste, why we would not welcome something new. This is first time I used Curds, it came out really very, very interesting to say the least.

This recipe is a good try but not really how we make dhokar dalna and we donot use limbu with Dhoka dalna.

Dhokar dalna dokha is deep fried not shallow... Nd curd is not added... Ghee nd garam masala must be added at the end as chok... That enriches taste... Dokha is a veg item.. Ghoti or bangal both adds a pinch of suger in it...
