What we need now is a way to hide the wires maybe cover the harnesses. I've gave it some thought. Also I think it'd be cool to install the very bottom piece of the fairing, the one that covers the oil pan and is usually gray. Problem is it bolts to the side fairings. I also think I will paint my crank case cover. Going for all black look with a couple accentuations.
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 4 года назад
All black looks are definitely very nice for Streetfighters! 👌🏻 I’ve thought about the wire situation and the factory length is really long, not sure how or where to hide em. The bottom fairing idea would be great, You’d almost have to make a mock up the fairings being there to give you the mount points, it would definitely be a diy job. I’m going to take a look at mine and see how the mount points look.

Justin, I ordered this speedo and hooked it up this weekend. I decided to order the Samdo male and female connector kit and cut the original harness and wire everything to the speedo. I have everything hooked up according to your diagram (and crossreferenced it with the Kat wiring diagram). Everything seems to be working right - except I have no speed read out? the 3 pin connector seems a bit of a problem - because you say orange and red or pink. which one is the positive and which one is the sensor? I think this is why I'm not getting a ready out. You have any suggestions? I also don't have that style of headlight to hide the extra wires - hace any suggestions for that?

@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage Год назад
I disabled that and the oil light. I found it too finicky to bother with. If you truly are worried about overheating I’d look at either another small display just for temp or a simple light than lights up at a certain temp. Both are fairly cheap and easy to use off of eBay.

@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 3 года назад
Is there a blue and black, or black and blue connector on your bike’s harness? That should be your neutral light. Have you tried reversing polarity by alternating the green and black wire from the aftermarket speedometer? It might not be getting grounded. Try and find a known ground wire and go from there.

So I have an 03 katana and a samdo unit coming in the mail today. How did you go about mounting it though? Building a streetfighter out of it but have no clue how I’m going to be mounting it.
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 4 года назад
Nice!! I did it the diy way and bought slotted aluminum strip and cut it down to the length I wanted. Luckily the Samdo unit had bolt spots on the back of it. Using the metal strips I attached it on to the bolt that holds the bars in place and the back of the speedo. It took bending and cutting to get it to fit and be the right angle, and black paint to make it blend in better. But it works and holds strong. $10 for bolts, paint, and the metal. Similar to the bar I got: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-3-8-in-x-36-in-Zinc-Steel-Punched-Flat-Bar-with-1-16-in-Thick-802037/204225755 Bolt number 10 in this diagram is the one I mounted to, it was long enough to mount the strip metal in between the bottom of the bar and nut number 9. www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2000-suzuki-katana-600-gsx600f-handlebar/o/m147750sch238372

@christiankdt9381 4 года назад
Justin's Garage see I run an exhuast shop so metal fab isn’t something I’m entirely new too, but it is new for a motorcycle let alone a mount and not an exhuast. I though about using that metal stripping because it has holes already and the tach has them as well, I just didn’t know exactly where I could easily mount it to the bike that wasn’t in the way of bar movement and that wouldn’t require messing with the bike itself too much. Couldn’t figure anything out so thought I’d ask 😅
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 4 года назад
Oh good!! I had no metal work experience, but know my way around the Katana. I had to work in reverse. I hope my mounting location helped, and you should be good the rest of the way with your skills and tools at hand. Good luck! If you do Instagram give me a follow and let me know how it goes.

Hi quick question do you use one magnet or two on speed sensor?
@JasonBohl
@JasonBohl 3 года назад
So I've got this speedo for dirt bike. It has a regulator rectifier and a battery but I still cant get my RPMS to work I had it hooked up to the green coil wire but doesnt do anything unless I slide the speedos RPM wire up and down on the coils wire. So my question is how do I book up the RPM wire? What did I do wrpng?
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 3 года назад
Did your bike have a rpm gauge to start with? If so was it electric or was it cable driven from the engine to the old speedo? Getting RPMs from the coils is tricky, it really comes down to trial and error. I’ve heard of people wrapping the bare wire around the coils or the coil wire and getting a steady signal from that.
@JasonBohl
@JasonBohl 3 года назад
@@JustinsGarage I figured it out. Thanks though. The problem was that the ground wire coming off of the coil where the wire from the speedo plugs into wasnt a good ground. I ran a ground from the coil to my fuse box, which is a good ground, and instantly my RPMS we are working. I added all the wiring minus the rectifier 1and gear position sensors. But now everything works minus the temp gauge. There was no wire on my speedo for that even though though you can see there are lights for it when you first turn the key on. I grounded my fuel level wire so it stops flashing as I dont have a gauge, but theres no wire for the temp. Ahh but the guage is electric. It never had any kind of gauge before. I added the same gauge you have I just have to hook up the three wires and magnets for the speedometer be and all is good.
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 3 года назад
Awesome! Glad it worked out for you. Definitely worth the cost
@bikelyfer.p
@bikelyfer.p 2 года назад
How did you determine the wire for rpms? Did you just just choose an ignition coil wire ?
@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 2 года назад
The manual for my bike had the wires for positive and negative of the rpm gauge labeled and I was able to tap in to them. If your bike has a cable driven or a physical tachometer and no digital wires you can wrap the new speedometers cable around the coil packs. Good luck!

@JustinsGarage
@JustinsGarage 4 года назад
I wired directly into the stock speed sensor. I set the speed setting to around 115 in the settings menu to get it accurate to tire rpms. The black and white cable on the Samdo’s harness should be the signal wire and goes to the Katana’s pink cable. and if I remember correctly the other two are positive and negative. It was trial and error when I did it. If the pink katana cable doesn’t get you the signal try the orange and red cable.

If your bike has a digital speed sensor and digital tachometer you won’t need to install anything. If it is an older bike with cable driven speedometer and tachometer you will need to install the speed sensor included and connect to the Rpms off the electrics for your spark plugs.
