It's trickier than you think because movies that depict the worst sort of people as the protagonists aren't easy to make succeed or appeal to wide enough audiences. Roy DeMeo wasn't just a murderer in that life, he was a tortuous sociopath who enjoyed his work, and he basically got what he deserved when the Gambinos had to get rid of him. He was, however, played by Ray Liotta in the movie, "The Iceman", about another scumbag who lied about everything depicted in the film. Worth a watch though.

Scarface, The Town, American Gangster are all movies where the protagonist is pretty much an irredeemable Monster. I think a story about these Mob guys would work best as a television show though. That way more time can be dedicated towards actual development. We’ve seen in Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, etc.
