Thank you for separating the controversy from your actual review of the product into the back half segement. We should judge products based on their performance and capabilities in service to the consumer. Whether they mimic others has no real effect on those in most cases. What matters is implementation and the quality of it.
@@freestar_cyan the issue isn't Apple copying Android features, the issue is Apple copying Android features and then everyone pretending they did it first
@@devin4l nobody is pretending. Infact, Android fans will go out of their way to claim any good features that apple announced as *part of android years ago* Meaning an insignificant and unpolished and unliked interface brought back from the dead just to say they had it first
Hey man, I really appreciate how well you put into words the part about why the design shift matters. 12:19-12:59 is really well written and said, and as someone who's been using samsung products for about as long as you've been covering them, captures my thoughts on it very well. Here's to another 13 years of great videos.
Especially after seeing the oneUI 7 leaks with live activities and a dynamic island I miss when Samsung gave us whatever crazy wacky concept they could think of. Like it’s hard to remember that this is the same company who pushed foldables, hole-punch cameras, curved screens, and under-display fingerprint readers into the mainstream
@@panathatube my guy you were able to do all of that on jailbroken iPhoneOS before Android even existed. Freely moving icons has also been a thing on MacOS since the beginning. You’re grasping at straws.
@@panathatube Mac OS 8 released in 1997 and had system wide accent colour theming (and that might not even be the first version, it's just the first I've used). It also let you put things anywhere you want on the desktop. Apple refused to let users do those things because they're assholes, not because they didn't think of it sooner.
That kind of wacky crazy mentality is what helped kill LG's mobile division. Samsung took note and adjusted. Which company is still making mobile tech today?
Nope there’s another RU-vidr or two tech talk tv and I forget the other one, but it doesn’t matter everyone else will say Apple created it. It’s all good but what you like at the end of the day a good product is a good product!
@@companymann yeah your right I got at em him as well. He has 3 times as many subscribers vs Flossy yet he just went right along with whatever everyone else said. It’s like him peeling the folds cover screen thinking it was a screen protector.
The Apple Watch is the #1 smartwatch and AirPods are the #1 earbuds...so Samsung copied Apple. Galaxy Watches are a flop and Galaxy Buds are a flop...sales numbers don't lie. Samsung is copying 2 products that are the most popular from Apple...it's that simple
I've started watching The Verge's podcast on these products, and I couldn't finish it. Yes, there's a lot to shame on what Samsung did, but those guys restrict themselves to mock, not analyze or even criticize, per se. Watching your much more grounded take lifts me up.
I noticed that the comments were taking The Verge to task for that in the written review of the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which seems like a shift to me (compared to the more Apple-friendly comment sections in the past). My own take sort of rides the line between the extremes: Personally, I wish Samsung had stuck closer to their own design language, and I don't think copying Apple's aesthetics will improve market share. On the other hand, there is a clear double-standard at play whenever Apple borrows concepts from Samsung or others, and people just shrug and say "Hey, there's nothing wrong with copying good ideas!"
@TheMrMobile wow! I was unsure after seeing all the reddit drama about them and only ordered because of code stacking and trade-in for a cool £88, but seriously excited now!
nitpick here, the case is still untraceable without the buds in them. i lost my case bud2 pro when slipped out of my pocket while i was wearing them. Sad to see they haven't added tracking for the case individually.
"Sure, the _virtual bezel_ is here..." much respect for the balanced and constructive review as always. I agree that we are seeing a regression in the character and identity of Samsung, who, not that long ago, was known for taking risks and kind of pioneering a lot of great features that are more mainstream today largely due to their work. I am glad to see that the Buds3 Pro are actually making a great product in the process (I loved seeing Michael's giddiness at the voice commands working), but overall I have been disappointed in Samsung's apparent complacency the last few generations, where the year-over-year upgrades often have less intrigue than even Apple's. And the changes we do see are often ones that make the products more closely resemble Apple's, and arguably take away identity and character. It seems like that's not going to change for a few more generations at least, and I am sad to see that. Keep up the great coverage.
😂😂 out of all things you could complain is a spin rotating dial Ok HOW THE BIGGEST ISSUE BATTERY LIFE 🤨 I wouldn’t care what’s sacrificed or even a thicker body or bigger battery Give me 5 words or a week For the price 2/3 days B L is just disappointing below average
The close of the video is super spot on, very well articulated Michael Oh and great reviews too but that you already know, all your reviews are great !
Thank you Mike for showing the white one of the Samsung Galaxy Ultra 7 watch in your review. So many other content creators only showed the gray and silver looking ones. I really think that white one is so elegant but yet a beast. I ordered mine but I just have to wait until Aug 21st before it ships out. Now I'm going to get those buds due to your review. Keep up the great content, your channel rocks. S
Thanks! Most people were seeded the silver version (myself included) so it's not other creators' fault. Actually, I got a silver one too - but Jaime Rivera was kind enough to trade with me 😄
The fewer parts argument for the rotating bezel seems weak to me. Traditional watches have had moving bezels while being 200m watertight and also provided to militaries for use in combat. Yes it may be more complex due to the smart watch aspect, but I don't believe it's as difficult as they make it seem. Seems more like a financial cost decision to not include the bezel to me
There may be something to that argument actually. My Galaxy Watch Classic 4''s bezel was superior in every way to the Watch 6 Classic's bezel. It felt like a drop off in quality between the 2 and I also had some issues with it (plus it wasn't as satisfying to use) I do hope it comes back, just not tacked on like the watch 6 classic
Exactly, it's total nonsense. I think a lot of people making the claim don't understand that while the bezel rotates mechanically, it doesn't actually work mechanically. It uses a hall effect sensor(the magic of magnets), so a rotating bezel would not compromise the ability to seal the watch in any way.
You might not get this enough, but, thank you for taking your time and releasing your review on these products. I waited specifically for your review on everything before determining a purchase, and I'm glad I did. I'd be pretty upset right now if I traded in my watch classic for the watch ultra
The main issue about the Samsung copied Apple topic is simply how Samsung operates all the time. They CONSTANTLY mock Apple for not being innovative and whatever and then do what they did here. They just deserve all the criticism for that.
Samsung's new CEO is to blame for that. Their CEO till the S10+ was the best thing that happened to the smartphone industry and the next one is joint, with the banning of Huawei, worst. Stagnation and growing prices define the latest phones.
@@kaiserfakinaway5909 No, this isn't a "new CEO" problem. Samsung has been doing this for many years. Their marketing and design departments have like 0% communication.
they take business inspirations but never design inspirations. Also if you develop stuff completely based on innovation you lose. Take a look at LG... One of the first phones to have dynamic island, where they now?
@@reubenpx1809 Samsung used to be the innovator. They used to take risks and justify their price by being better. Now they don't take risks nor are their prices even worth it after 20-30% discounts. Why are you defending this? I think you'd still defend them if they charged 4k USD for an S3
You're my favorite reviewer of tech. I've been watching for years and I never buy anything without first looking to see if you have covered it on your channel! Keep your integrity and giving honest reviews, we need it! Also, can you do another bike review via riding tour of the area near your scenic surroundings? I thoroughly enjoyed that one and had no idea that I would like it so much! Thanks, Mr. Mobile!
when a reviewer as big as Michael starts to feel bad about Samsung, you know something's wrong. Thanks for not just parroting every popular opinion for the sake of it and actually pointing out flaws. I'm just concerned that they're taking it too far now with price hikes left and right and little to no changes in actual quality, just tweaks to make you think there's changes like FR of speakers/headphones, tuning of cameras, design, etc. I used to love Samsung and hate them now. When the second best phone company starts being greedier than the best one, how do you respect them? I call them the second best due to the sales of their flagships which is far below Apple's now.
Fair Review. I am enjoing both my GWU and Buds3Pro I feel like these RU-vidrs are a little jaded because you guys test EVERY Freaking device known to man for free. So they are always pessimestic on devices they don't instantly love in the first week... But I appreciate the feedback and hopefully Samsung can improve and continue to innovate.
As someone who uses all ecosystems and has heard all earbuds. The buds 3 pro are the best sounding from any big brand. If you mainly care about Audio quality they are the ones to get. The fact they were able to get those planar magnet drivers to be that energy efficient is a marvel.
These reviews are always motivating me to do better. Regardless of what is MrMobile talking about, when you see this much effort and quality work involved - you simply get to a better understanding of the expression "there are levels to the game".. Absolutely great review
@@user-dibribhsvj36dBasic features do. Anything more advanced and it just doesn't work, if I remember correctly even ear detection is tied to iOS. Airpods on Android are just so bad
I love the galaxy ultra , yea I agree on a few things they should have done. But it’s different enough for me , I’m 72 yrs old still a amature tech junkie. I got the z flip 5 too ,love Samsung. Great video man, always professional . Thanks much. It’ll be interesting how Samsung responds to reviews from public and you pro reviewers. 😊cheers.
Have to confess I have zero interest in either product and only watched to enjoy a Mr. Mobile review. I wish there was more stuff out there I could even point to you to be excited to make videos about.
I concur with the shortfalls of the Ultra, BUT I did order it anyway because: 1) I'm a Samsung guy. 2) I'd held onto my Galaxy Watch 3 until they came out with something new and different (which this is, in Samsung land...). And finally 3) They gave me a decent trade-in value for my humble Watch3. So I figured I'd get the Ultra, because it was just time & if for nothing else, than to use it for the trade-in value next year. So I'm not as thrilled as I'd like to be, but am really looking forward to using it. It's still a pretty nice watch, despite the non-fullfillment of it's full potential... Thank you, as always, for the review... Keep up the good work... P.S. I would be interested in a bit of a deeper dive review, by you, of the Ultra and all it's features...
The Buds 3 Pro was the one I was looking forward to the most -- and therefore most disappointed when sales were halted and preorders in limbo. Super happy to hear they're stellar, tho. I hope they'll also be my best buds. A note on the end, so is RingConn your channel sponsor? I find it hard to understand why there's a conflict of interest if they're only sponsoring this one video. Also another aside, the Flip 6 is an unexpectedly stellar device, and the battery upgrades alone were worth the trade in from the 5, let alone the impressively diminished crease.
Ringconn is a sponsor of the channel. Therefore, in his view, reviewing a competing product in the space is almost certain to give the idea of a conflict of interest. (He would be reviewing a product that competes with a sponsor.) If, for some reason, his review was negative, people could easily just say he's trying to puff up the product the sponsor sells. TLDR: "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
As someone who has, unfortunately succumbed to the Apple ecosystem, I actually like the small differences in the Galaxy Buds Pro 3 compared to the AirPods Pro. I mean “best noise cancelling” from you convinced me to get the AirPods Max. Though I don’t know if a lot of the functionality of the Buds Pro would be retained on an iPhone, suppose that would depend on that one app for Samsung accessories if that’s still around. But when I saw the Galaxy Watch Ultra, I was unimpressed at best and confused at worst. While I hardly think the square design of the Apple Watch is the best, I prefer it for the real estate it gives info on the display. Samsung picked the worst of both worlds imo. And it sounds like smartwatches on the Android side of the fence are growing far more restrictive in personalization and software customization. A true shame. Either way, great review of both of these products! Always good to see you on my timeline
The complaints about Samsung copying Apple, but it is working. It is what almost got me to switch to android. Used the S24 Ultra and a lot of UI reminded me and was similar to iOS that I used. Especially with smart switch and it leaving my layout all the same and similar folders. If the S24 Ultra and Plus were not the most uncomfortable phones on the planet (for me because I have smaller hands) I would have kept the ultra.
You the nail on the head, Michael. I used to despise how similar Samsung’s design elements are to Apple, but I loved the change of directions they made ever since they release the S6, with me finally biting the bullet and got the S8. I don’t know whether it’s them settling or just wanting to capture the sizeable demographics who are used to Apple designs, but I’m not really feeling the recent directions their design team is taking. I really hope Samsung could find their mojo back, the market needs a big player who dare trying different things. But as long as the money does the talking, I don’t see how it’ll change.
Great video, as always only 3 tech reviewers make me stop what I'm doing and watch that's you , Flossy Carter and the Unlockr your guys put out quality, well thought out videos.
Hey Michael, David from DSNY here. Great review. I wasn't going to get these but you've convinced me. Awesome review as usual. Keep up the great reviews!
Honestly I think the Galaxy Bud series are among the best non-apple earbuds on the market. I almost always refer friends to them especially when there's a sale. Hear the audio quality from your demo makes it tempting even for me as an apple user. If it makes you feel better. I was watching this on speaker and my cat also flipped out over the alarm.
Definitely sticking with my current Galaxy Buds 2. I never liked that long stem look that Apple popularized. And my Watch 4 does everything I need, great review as usual!
Thank you Michael Fisher for bringing up exactly the key points on the Ultra in your review. Watchmaker and Facer not being allowed on the Samsung watches make them AbandonWear and my current GW4 Classic my last Galaxy Watch. Thankfully they kept the physical rotating bezel out making it such an easy decision. The Ultra - the deep sea diver capable of 1.5 meters according to Samsung themselves, 10 ATM only being for static pressure.
For me, the performance improvement was worth trading in my Watch 5 Pro for the new Watch Ultra (and the trade in pre-order bonus was pretty sweet). Everything is so much smoother and more responsive than the Watch 5 Pro that it's almost in another category altogether. I actually dig the looks of the white and silver options, but I get why others might not.
That's the reason I got one too. Wanted the 6 Classic but nah, the new chip is a big upgrade. The Watch 5 I once had was a bit sluggish at times and my Xiaomi Band 8 obviously could not compete with a proper Smartwatch 😂
While the design of both are very obvious copy of Apple, their target market is very different. Only those using Samsung or other Android devices, would consider buying these, so if they're good I don't really mind the design similarities.
3:37 for the record, this "legacy layout" only goes as far back as WearOS. The Tizen layout was home at 4, back at 2. It would not be out of character to change this.
Wait REALLY? ... I stand corrected! Thanks for the clarification (and no wonder I can never get it right on the first try when I wear a Samsung watch). God, I wish they'd just give us a proper 3 o'clock pusher and be done with it.
@@TheMrMobile Yeah, as someone who finally upgraded from the first generation Galaxy Watch to the 6 Classic this year, it took me quite awhile to get used to the change. I was honestly surprised there wasn't an option to flip it back. Not bothersome in the long term, but definitely weird.
Personally, I'd love to still get the Buds3 simply because of how interesting they look, despite the issues of how they look coming off as AirPods. As someone who has Airpods and finds them sometimes frustrating with how I have to use _Siri_ to lower the volume, it is rather nice the Buds actually *lower the dang volume by voice command* !
Been using the Pixel Buds Pro for year and a half now. They are excellent honestly with no bugs. ANC Is amazing but transparency is kind of subpar. I prefer them because they are readily open to use on any device and any platform without sacrificing any of its features and functionalities.
Hi! As usual, excellent review of a couple new devices. BUT, I want to step away form mobile devices for a sec and ask about something just as nerdy: are you aware of the TOMY USS Enterprise Refit model, and are you gong to acquire one? Or are you more a TNG and beyond fan?
I have the regular buds 3, and i love them. They are super comfortable, and the stick style helps them remain in the ears. The galaxy watch ultra is also nice.
I'll admit I am a Samsung fan boy and have no desire to own any fruit products. I have the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Buds 3 Pro and numerous Smartthings. I do appreciate a good review so thanks for that.
Just the review I was waiting for, as usual. I decided to skip the Buds 3 Pro, but I'm going to change my mind now. Oh, and the red night mode was started by Garmin but yes Sammy gotta go back to being themselves.
The red night mode is the only criticism that seems completely baseless to me. Red is the optimum color for instruments at night, and it has always been that way. The problem isn't that "Apple did it first", the problem is that everyone (including Apple) should have been doing it that way since day 1.
@@Johnny_SockoAlso, Samsung did it WAY better than Apple here. As seen on Flossy's review, the AW Ultra is way too dark at night, while the SW Ultra is readable
The sponsor cannot dictate that, but ethics can. *If* Michael reviewed the Samsung ring and didn't like it for some reason, then people could accuse him of being influenced by his sponsor for that finding. That is the conflict of interest that he references in the video.
@@Johnny_Socko didn't think about that thank you. But maybe using another sponsor for that one video might be an option? Idk i just really wanna hear his opinion on the ring :D
Between the backlash for the extremely derivative foldables (and raising the price of the z fold), and the backlash for the copycat accessories, this is probably the lowest samsung has been in a while. And i hope sales suffer too. Sometimes a company needs to get a kick in the rear to get back on the right path
As a long time Android user, I am very saddened to see the "I-Phone-ification" of the android industry, we are seeing this in your video and with other titans in the market. The google pixel 9 looks like they took HEAVY inspiration from the latest iPhone 15. My only hope is with the nothing phone company, trail blazing in exterior LEDs and a flashback to when every electronic had to be transparent in the early 2000s.
I'm surprised at your review of the ultra. It is my favorite watch yet. Battery life is a plus, design is eye catching and I love the feel so much I wear it naked. Other than the orange button which is limited by limited options the other two feel great.
Always can count on a mr mobile video out soon. I have the buds 3 pro and overall, I agree they are the best buds I've ever owned. I use these for work and the sound, volume, noise canceling and fit is a lot better than previous iterations. But since my job is so physical, I do a lot of outside manual labor, these are still plauged by the same problem as the last 2. The tips do not stay in your ears at all. They slip and fall out unbelievably easy if you're sweating or even think of moisture. They went back to those oval shaped ear tips and those have a hard time conforming to my ears at all. I've tried all the sizes and the large fit the best but that brings up another problem. They squeak! They rub against the silver paint so bad it's like having a rubber glove in your ear constantly. That brings up the issue with the tip durability. The tip silicone itself is so thin that if you don't pull it out exactly the way samsung tells you, it WILL tear the earbuds. There is no rigidity to them at all. The paint is a problem too. The silver pair I received, you can feel how cheap the paint they used is. It scratches easily and feels cheap after a week of use. I will say this though. They nailed the hinge. I'm also having problems with the charging case, the magnets are not strong enough to maintain contact to charge completely throughout the day if they get warm. Not hot, just warm. I clean them regularly and this is a problem I'm having all the time with them.
Was gonna look into the Ultra for better performance but Ill stick with my 6 Classic. The rotating dial is still so satisfying and I like having Facer and being able to easily change bands
Part of the design change is what improves the audio on the microphones. I feel this is why the designed shifted to something similar to Apple. I loved the previous generation buds pro ear fit more than these new ones. The old mic placement was horrible and I don't see how they could have improved it in that form. The new squeeze takes some getting used to for the buttons, but I do like being able to adjust the fit without hitting any buttons on accident. I was always doing that with the previous buds.
Agreed. I wasn't going to buy the buds 3 pro because of the design and (imo) bad colour options. But the reviews convinced me otherwise. Fact of the matter is, if I take a call on the buds 2 pro in a completely silent room, the person on the other end will still complain about the quality so much that I end up taking them out, if the stems... er, blades, fix this, then it's a necessary design choice. The watch ultra is a bit of an embarrassment though lol.
@fuzziestlumpkin yeah, I don't know why they would take the bezel away in use cases where people could be wearing gloves. It was the one differentiator, and they just tossed it.
@@fuzziestlumpkinI have the Ultra and really disliked the design before. Turns out, it looks way better in real life and Ihighly prefer it over the Apple Watch Ultra. That one with its matte casing and the orange band looks like a toy to me. I have the Titanium Silver version and can rock both the more serious watchbands aswell as the "Pedro" raccoon as a GIF when I am with friends 😂 The rotating bezel being gone sucks for some, but to be honest, it feels just as accurate as the 6 Classic to me, if not better. Way better than on the Watch 5 44mm I had previously
as someone who was really upset by the samsung-copying-apple design of the new buds, im really happy samsung made them so good! honestly if anything samsung shouldve been cheeky and said "oh it looks like airpods? well sure, but i'm pretty sure your gen 2 airpods can't do this"
When a simple different color choice could have avoided all the drama, it makes me believe that marketing knew this would make headlines and everyone would talk about it, so they released it in white on purpose!
Never been a fold/flip fan, nor the new watch due to the missing rotating bezel. Also I don't think it's a good idea for me to use that smart ring because of my work but that new galaxy buds?! I'm so excited to have it! Can't wait to get mine in a few weeks. It sucks though that they're delaying their shipping. I pre-ordered mine on the first day when they released it
I've been a sony guy for audio but you've given me pause to go fir Samsung this time around. I live in taipei which is very noisy! Good to know i can call my family without stressing about background noise
I have a Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar and a Galaxy pro5. I bought the Garmin because I wanted a watch that could do activities like no other and one I wasn't afraid to bang on things while working out, hiking or swimming. I use the Galaxy for everything else 'cause it's prettier lol It's a shame to see the ultra fall flat like that even though it's meant to appeal to more active people (it didn't give me much confidence in that aspect either). Maybe one day I'll have everything I need on the same watch; for now, I guess I'll keep rocking my 2 watches!
Yes! Got the silver buds 3 pro for both my wife and I they sound amazing. So far no issues with QCs 🤞🏼. As for the watch ultra, hard pass. Im keeping my watch 6 classic. I just cant give up that rotating bezel.
Nice to see that when it comes to the watch ultra the only real negatives tend to be personal user experience pre patch issues when it comes to battery life. Battery is now slightly better and can last a whole 3 day,s lol. No where near as good as my garmin, but everything else is very much above average and a large step up over Samsungs previous 'smart' watches.
I don’t mind the “new” buds design if it means they’re better now, obviously they took the design from the AirPods, but I think they should’ve skipped the white color to make them distinct enough
They went for white because people keep asking for it, they got a lot of praise on the Buds FE because of it. I guess it also helps with finding your earbuds in a room
@@Gle-lv2fm It's pretty popular, Samsung used white a lot back in the days, too. They are kind off returning to it now and I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted those earbuds matching their new watches, too
