Back in the day I remember many of us complained when companies released completely new replacements (operating systems, cameras, phones etc) rather than polishing up the older, proven and loved items. Now Samsung has finally given us what represents the polished old favorite and I absolutely love it. After one full month of using it, I'm still in awe and do not miss my S24 Ultra one bit - including the cameras.
The OnePlus open is so close though, honestly. I love both. I am interested in the pixel but that bezel is something I couldn't wait to upgrade. Honestly, don't understand why Shane is bagging on the height. It's the exact same as the Open but narrower... If anything my perfect aspect ratio would be the width of the Open but a smidge taller to make the aspect ratio of the inner screen closer to the Z fold's inner screen
8:01 The ability to turn off cover screen mirroring is so clutch to me. I've tried both on and off and what I've found is... my brain's got a whole different mode it switches into when I'm unfolded vs folded. When I unfold it's not a phone anymore to me... the features I'm gonna want to use are way different...gaming... editing multi-track video in Samsung Studio, drawing in Infinite Painter, creating music in FL Studio Mobile... so when I open it up I want the layout to be more conducive to the activities I'd perform on a tablet vs a phone. Love having the freedom to do that. It's wild... the more someone learns about Z Fold, the more insane it sounds when anyone implies that the competition is even getting close to the feature-richness of Z Fold.
Thanks for the video. I had similar experience with camera initially with photos being out of focus. But enabling the option "Prioritize focus over speed" in Camera Assistant (Good lock) did the trick. Am more than happy with the photos now, even in low light. Of course, having 10x Telephoto lens should have been killer.
Awesome videos! Keep up the good work. I am still enjoying my own white 1TB Fold 6 as I await my porcelain Pixel 9 Pro Fold! As a homebody with no kids or pets, I am not much of a photographer and tend to focus more on media consumption on the inner screen, so the cameras have been passable for me.
@michaelbmw1931 just the price of the open. Particularly for the apex with 16gig of ram and 1 tb storage. Also cameras are a tad better from what I have seen
@@boxingtherapy87check more videos and reviews then before deciding. Software wise, support wise, quality wise Fold seems to miles ahead. Not saying you shouldn't buy the OnePlus just don't base your decision on one reviewer. Good luck!
@@CocosBoss007 hard disagree, I have the Oppo Find N3 which is basically the Open for Asia, the build quality is absolutely incredible and it will last just as long as the Fold. Things Sammy has advantage of is 7 years update policy, latest SoC and IP48, but it costs a whopping $2000 whereas I got my N3 for $900 brand new
I switched from long time iPhone user to the z fold 6 I don't regret anything about the samsung Absolutely best phone i have ever had The more I use it the more I love it
I had the Pixel fold and it was great but just too heavy. I ended up going back to iphone then eventually the fold 6. I love it, and this is thinborne case is a game changer. Such good case. Great video man!
@@dons1643 it’s an option that lets you turn off the swipe gestures when using the S Pen. If you’re writing or drawing and swipe from the edge, you don’t accidentally activate the back or forward gesture to swipe away from an app.
100% cameras indoor/lowlight have been number one complaint from me. But its good enough in a pinch. The only other thing is when im with my friend and i see their s24u. Ugh. Again and again and again imma say it: For the price the fold 6 should have got the anti-reflective coating.
I had a ZFold3 and ZFlip3 - I live in a location where I spend a decent amount of time outdoors in extremely cold weather. I go in and out of the cold frequently enough that I just don't know if the bendy glass will ever be a suitable replacement to the traditional glass slabs. That being said - I am waiting to be suckered into a fold once again if someone, hopefully Samsung, makes what would essentially be two S24U sized slabs fused together - outer display is the S24U display, inner display is a top of the line folding display the dimension of two S24U's side by side, a S-PEN built into the body of the phone....man that would be sweet.
1:34 this is why I still love my Pixel Fold cause it's short. Google making it taller isn't a big benefit for me. This makes me appreciate smaller devices now and that's why I got the Z Fold 6 as well. I like that I could use it with one hand! When I go back to using my S22U it's just too big now even tho I like that phone a lot.
@@Idannko new Pixel Pro Fold 9? I would say if you want a phone that does anything cause you're a nerd like me then get the Z Fold 6. The front screen is narrow but it's finally wide enough for me as I have smaller hands. Get the new Pro Fold 9 if you want a regular phone feel but get the OG Fold if you want something more manageable and opening up to landscape mode instead. Pixel phones really have unique calling features and the best folding cameras. It's really up to you and your needs.
Coming from an Xperia 1 II, the Z fold 6 is a beast. The Camera is a big improvement when you are coming from a 5 year old phone lol. First foldable and its great. Was gunna try the Xperia 1 VI but no 5g in the US is a no.
How I'm feeling a month later? It grew on me too. That was actually a little of a process too, because coming from a Z Fold5 I'd have to really weigh was I was gaining compared to the nearly a hundred games my ZF5 had that would no longer be compatible since SD8G3 lacks 32-bit support. And; of course, with all the stiff Chinese competition and how much easier it's getting to import... I was exploring the possibility of something like a Vivo X Fold 3, Honor Magic V3 or something. But as I compared all my options I... kinda came to the same conclusion you did at 3:31 which is that the Z Fold6 is the most feature complete foldable around. I can get thinner... if I wanna make sacrifices... I can get better cameras... if I wanna make sacrifices... I can get a bigger battery... again... if I wanna make sacrifices. But if I want a foldable that can allow me three-app multitasking, a battery-free stylus that I can easily get my hands on, 120fps video recording, a 1TB option, 5G on US carriers, certified water and dust resistance, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, HDMI out, DeX... not one foldable competitor in ANY region matches that.
@@BiscuitNgravy13 Samsungs ecosystem is OK, I have a iPhone 15 Pro Max, MacBook Pro and iPad Air, Apple Watch and Air Pods Pro for the ecosystem. The OnePlus is just fun to use.
I loved the weight of my pixel fold and i loved the OS. Also the call screening. I still decided to give Samsung a try, and the only thing not better if im being honest is the call screening. Which i hate to admit because i love the pixel. But i have to really try and find bad thing about my fold 6. Its really great so far, i just downloaded the pixel launcher to get as much of that os feel as possible
I'll agree with Shane, the Z-Fold 6 has grown on me as well and I believe it's the best Fold yet from Samsung. With that said, I stopped using it and went back to the S24 Ultra. Why? In a word - camera! The Z-Fold 6 camera takes decent quality snaps, but it falls apart with any challenging light or zoom situation. I went to an event and had to zoom in about 16-20% and the images were simply trash. I refuse to buy another Z-Fold until Samsung puts a flagship camera in it. No more compromises!
same here the narrower screen sorta grew on me. it give me a more rectangular larger screen when unfolded, which give a portrait and landscape ability, leave it portrait to read and browser the web, turn landscape more multitasking and video. Using Gmail in this way is great, in portrait you get full screen eamil with better ratio for reading, in landscape you get split view for organizing
i would like to see it to be a bit wider and shorter like a normal phone aspect ratio, thinner like the top foldable phones and one plus open canvas feature. to me, that’s probably the best implementation of multi tasking on a touch screen. give us that!
Take away all the bezels out and you have the perfect foldable IMO anyways screen size wise. Add 100 watt charging 50 watt wireless. Pen slot. Few mm thinner. Better cameras. And inside crease disappears. Hopefully by Z Fold 16 we will be there!
I've been using Samsung since the S3 and lowlight pictures are always their aquiles-heel. It became more apparent when I had kids, good luck taking a picture of your kids or pets if your not out in the sun or have great lighting. I had the S24 Ultra before this phone and it was also not great in low light
I am from the Netherlands, and I also bought the Samsung z fold 6 at the launch. I also had fold 4 and 5 but the inner screens broke. I hope this one stays intact. But so far I am very satisfied with the fold 6 Only the 3x zoom lens does not work well, I hope that will be resolved with an update.
Got my Z fold 6 yesterday. Love the ONE UI over Oxygen OS on the OnePlus Open. Dont miss my Open one bit. I almost avoided my Open in the end before i sold it.
Same here. I had the Apex Edition Open with the free keyboard which I ended up enjoying a LOT more. LOL Once I held the device and started using Oxygen OS, it just felt half baked compared to One UI on my Fold devices and even the UI on my Pixel 6 Pro. I was also surprised to not feel the same amount of confidence in the OnePlus Open's hardware. The only regret I have in returning it is no longer having that keyboard gift, however, I can always purchase practically the same model from Keychron anyway.
@DUICE08 That may be true, but I'll have to wait and see what OnePlus does with their next gen, I guess. Everyone's mileage varies with any device due to differing preferences and opinions. In fact, I recall not being sold on the Samsung Fold until the second gen since the first model was a fail for me. Either way, I'm excited for any added competition in the mobile industry that does away with the monotony of touch slabs.
I actually like the aspect ratio for one reason and that's the versatility of being able to rotate it depending on what I'm doing. I prefer that over a square. Although I'm not sure it's worth the front display.
Yes the fold 6 focus is annoying. Even the laser in the s22 ultra actually does not fully solve this in bad lighting. If the PIxel Fold was the 6th generation, I'd be very compelled to try that which is nice but I know the software won't match the same as OneUI. I do love the open canvas. Amazing implementation but nothing beats fold 6 durability!
Honestly, if they would just ditch their marketing strategy of super high sticker price and then crazy discounts, I think the Fold 6 would be _the_ foldable to finally get regular, non-tech-enthusiast people to buy them. Maybe not a lot of them, but some of them. What I gave Samsung for it was around $600-700 (whether Rakuten and Samsung actually give me the cashback they claimed remains to be seen but I doubt it at this point), and an old phone that goes for $400 secondhand. What amount of money Samsung actually gets from passing trade-ins to refurbishers I don't know, but surely it can't be more than the secondhand value. So Samsung's getting $1100 value tops out of me in exchange for sending me a Z Fold 6 - why can't they just set the sticker price at $1300 like the S24 Ultra? Ditch the crazy high trade values, ditch the free storage upgrade (even though the difference costs them like 3 bucks), and the only money they lose is from people who would have paid the full sticker price without looking for any sort of promotional deal - money which I suspect they would make up in raw sales numbers.
I love everything about this phone apart from the motion blur/focus. The camera seems worse than the 5 in some ways. Hopefully updates can do something at least.
Coming from a iPhone 15 i spoiled myself and got it i tried the z fold 4 used from amazon used but the phone folded to 160 degrees and everyone told me to return it. and coming from the iphone 15 apple is really sleeping on the fold phones if they abandon the ipad mini and make that line called the iphone pad or iphone slice or iphone duo or duopad i think it would be fire. But samsung needs to put more battery life in these $2k phones honestly
Hey Shane, do you have weird issues on your Open with RU-vid specifically? I'm having this issue where the phone itself is responsive, but RU-vid will just randomly stop responding to any touch inputs. I have to close the app and reopen it to fix it for awhile. I only have that issue with RU-vid. I've followed all your tips and tricks guides, I've made sure my software is up to date, etc. it's just RU-vid, but I use it a lot.
That's just RU-vid. Every update since Version 19 has been a dumpster fire. Read the Play Store reviews, especially when filtered for foldable devices. It's horrific. I routinely uninstall updates back to the factory default version 18 on my Fold 5 and it works properly again.
Nice review Shane. Question for you.....I tried the Z Fold 5 and went back to my OnePlus open. Is the Zfold 6 that much better (than the Fold 5) to leave my OnePlus open to go back to the Fold 6? Samsung would give me a $1200 trade in. Or......do I wait for the OnePlus open 2?🧐
As mentioned in my previous post, i love the narrow screen ahahah. I also have perfect eye sight and small hands so smaller js ok.. and yea photos really suck... lucky i take little photos
Honestly I just got a Pixel 9 Pro XL and I miss my Fold 5. Samsung's software is soooo robust with its customizations and GoodLock moving to a Pixel feels barebone.
So I still think the Z Fold 6 is to thin. Well I don't own it, but I can head to the nearby electronic market to see it. I'm looking forward to the Pixel Fold. With the second they told, it looks and feels like the normal Pixel, when folded, they got me. That was what I wanted, and aked myself, why are nobody able to build a foldable with a normal phones front? Should be the easyest you can do, instead of design a completly new ratio for the front. With the System, I'm now on my 7th year with Samsung OneUI, first with the S8+ and then with the Z Flip 3. Well there are some things I like about it, first of all the bar on the side with my favorit Apps on Short Cut, I think I'm gonna miss it. I hope the Fold will get the multiwindow, like they advertised, I mean, multiwindow only feels right on a big screen. I did this on my Flip, and wasn't able to use the halfed windows probly, because they where very small and when I opened the keyboard, I couldn't see anything. So I tested Pixel UI on the Pixel 9 Pro over at the electric market and I think I like it. Like U said, it looks more playfull. But only Time will tell, If I will miss the OneUI, while using the Pixel. Still waiting for the release next week.
🤔Samsung per order deals and then after made it hard for me not to upgrade. So i did. I was hoping Google would have similar deals if not better. But they didn’t. And i cant see myself paying $1,800 for a 256 gb phone no matter who makes it or what kind it is.
OK, …… I bought the Z fold6 and carried it for a while. Ultimately I switched back to my Motorola G Power. The G Power is thinner and I find I much prefer the wider screen. I can still split screen if I need access to two apps at once. Also, from an everyday usage standpoint, I think the G Power camera takes just as good photos as the Z Fold.
Man, thats wild saying "i didnt like my 2,000 dollar phone, so i switched to my 200 dollar phone cause i like it better". Honestly a testament to how annoying Samsung is for not pushing the envelop enough.
@Shanecraig please why don't you ever go on about the amazing honor Magic v2 and the newest one out the v3 these are hands down alot better in my opinion than the one open and z fold 6 and the pixel fold but you never bring these foldable up on your channel I just don't get it buddy they are game changers to the rest especially the v3?
The Truth is none of these compromises need to be edured with either any of the zFolds, or the Googlez. All you have to do to liberate yourself from these problems, is trade it in for the OnePlus Open. These devices have no reason to exist now that we have the OnePlus Open, especially a year later of optimized UI updates.
1:10 That narrowness will stick out like a sore thumb to me, it is truly a deal breaker. I respect your point, but I won't get over narrowness, I'm allergic to it. And I believe that many people think the same way, like my brother Mr Flossy Carter (RU-vidr). But at the end of the day, it is what it is. 3:46 Samsung made its name for being very loaded with a plethora of features and customisability.
Fold 6 is down to 22:9 now vs. the 20.2:9 on the P9 Fold. It's not that different anymore - every Z Fold has had a wider cover display by reducing the bezels and hinge and pushing the screen to the edges. The cover of the P9 Fold looks enormous because of the huge bezels and the protruding hinge/frame.
That crease is still so visible, cover display is still ridiculous and slim, slow charging, unchanged cameras from Fold 5, too thick, much more expensive than other better foldables. A fail from Samsung
Sadly it only took 3 weeks to go back to my iphone 15 pro as my main phone and use the fold 6 as my secondary for watching RU-vid and stream movies since i work from home i just keep it infront of me watching videos like i am doing now
