is it worth to buy Gear S now? my friend offered me only 50$ to get his secondhand. it's in a good condition (he rarely used it).

Andrew I have the LTE ATT model and it has the speaker and I've called and talked to people a lot and it works great. People can't tell I'm on my watch. So I think that issue is related to the regular Gear s2 wifi model. I paid $300 for my ATT LTE model. Which isn't bad in comparison to the OG which I have as well.

On the round vs square screen issue; Samsung chose the round screen because a predominate amount of buyers want their watch face to look like a real watch and not a miniature computer. I personally like to be able to quickly switch between an elegant traditional version, in my choice of colors, or a more chronograph look depending on the style I want and if I am going to a formal event or not. For me it's a fashion statement. As long is I get my notifications I can read my messages at a more convent time on my phone. I'm good with that. Each to. His own.

agree with you, would love to get the gear s2 but can't as it feels like I would be going backwards. similar to buying a new Samsung phone with no expandable storage.

I have the Gear 2 and Gear S. I have no attention getting the Gear S 2. I also have the Moto 360 and LG G Watch, which I purchased pre-owned for under $80 and I agree even though I don't use the speaker often but it's a must have.

i like the gear S because it sticks out and doesn't look like a normal watch. i've gotten lots of questions and compliments due to its screen size

I don't own the S2 but I just did not like the look of it. Thanks for being so straight forward as usual too. The only problem that I have with my gear S is that sometimes it gets stuck and and flashes between 2 screens and will not stop, it heats up during this and it will waste a whole charge in approx 30 min. So I turn it off, and sometimes it will be like this for days so I don't bother to wear it. I don't know why it does this any ideas?? Take care Katt ^,,^

Andrew, just got the S2 3G/4G model yesterday, an "upgrade" from the Gear S that I had. So far I can't make a complete opinion of like or don't like. For my life, having a round watch is a better option, given I need a watch to look like a watch. But I did like the design of the Gear S, just became a problem for my life as it didn't look like a watch. Furthermore, my major DISLIKE for the S2 is the "keyboard" they offer you, should you want to type out your message. Makes me glad the voice to text is responsive and accurate. I will be selling my Gear S in hoping the upcoming updates for the S2 will address so of the coming issues. Great video brother.

I just sold my Samsung S1 and I loved the shape and functionality. I am upgrading to the Samsung S2... but I think the same stuff he is talking about. I think the round screen is gonna suck and the way the phone works I just loved the S1... I hope I like the s2 but I think I will go back to the S1... I miss it already...

As a very happy gear s user I totally agree. Saw a gear s2 in a store nearby. Circling the gear's screen is not an upgrade at all.

I got my Gear S a couple of months ago, what a great piece of tech. Biggest thing for me was the stand alone feature. I'm not a heavy phone user and have a Galaxy S5 and still find that a pain to take out and about with me as I hate carrying things in pockets so I bought a Jabra stone bluetooth earpiece which is nice and discreet and leave my phone at home ( put on call forwarding) next year when my phone contract expires I'm going to ditch my phone and go Solo with the Gear S.

has anyone notice that on the t-mobile version of gear s1 the sim card losses contact and you have to reset the watch. where as on say the Verizon version has no sim card you don't get that problem?

in my opinion the bluetooth watches are useless, a regular bluetooth will do the same thing answer call, and stream media. the 3g ones however are better you can just leave ur phone at home, and have a small phone on ur wrist with most features

I got that problem too, I updated my software of my gear S but after it was done it flipped over. I noticed that the device was very warm so I put him sort in the fridge so it cool down, also get him off the charger (including the little unit). Then when is cool down it works fine again!!

As usual a great video.. I also say "if it is not broken then why fix". The Gear S is for me the best practical smartwear at present..

I jumped a bit when you dropped the S. Mine fell from a counter top to a ceramic tile floor and busted the screen. I do let my little one chew and drool all over the thing, so I'm definitely comfortable with the built, but drops have me emotionally disturbed. :) Not to say your too picky, but I would say 1/3 of your concerns I never noticed enough to really dismiss the S2. Original is still better, albeit a tough pick for me. Dig your videos man, keep up the good work.

OMG, please don't cut down to 5 minute videos! I agree with you that the Gear S is better and your con's on the Gear S2. I do like Tizen on it. Wish that we could get update on the Gear S similar to the new watch. Saw a watch face that users have been complaining that they cant see it on the Gear S2. Samsung is making users pay for the metal and bezel they added on the S2 Sport to justify the higher price as well as for the S2 Classic.

this has to be the best comparison video of the 2 watches.. I was going to buy the gear s2 but gear s is definitely the better watch.. I will not use it as stand alone but but with my line of work I do need to be able to except calls from my watch and having a bigger screen to read emails and texts easier and having a full qwerty keyboard to text back quick reply is perfect for me I do have the gear 2 neo and have been looking for a upgrade and the Gear s is the one I'm going to get....love my gear 2 neo but just need a secondary/upgrade smart watch thanks for the video great comparison good job buddy and thanks

I think your review is spot in. I got the gear S when it came out last year. love it. I tried the S2 and was severely unimpressed. rented it. I feel samsung took a major step back in this design compared to the gear S. the only thing the S2 has going for it is the better charger. it is a nice alternative for people looking to have a round smartwatch but I'm gonna keep my gear s and wait to see what the gear s3 brings. square is better. cheers

when you keep the gear s for charging, even the slightest movement turns it on (even in do not disturb mode ) and you just cannot simply keep it in your bag for charging and move around, you just gotta keep it stationary .

What all can I do with the Samsung gear s as just a watch with no bt, wifi, or cellular connection. I plan on using it with wifi and bt, but might have times when all I have is the watch independently from any kind of connection? Thanks, I really enjoy your videos and all the detail you go into.

that rotating bezel is an excellent edition if you ask me, I like it, helps me a lot.

Voice dictated texting is also an awesome feature on the gear s.

So I spent countless hours watching different reviews on the GS2 3/4/G and the Gear S. I'm almost Tempted to return my Gear S2 3/4/G to try out the Gear S for a change. I had the Moto 360, but thought the screen was little washed out and plain, and I didn't like the apps on android wear. When I bought the Gear S 3/4/G I was taken by the plethora of features i.e OLED screen, loud speaker, custom OS Tizen, and the ability to listen to music while being pair via bluetooth to a wireless headset. However I feel like the screen is too small, however the colors "Pop" and the contrast is on point on both the Gear S and Gear S2 3/4/G. I'm not sure what to do, plus the Gear S2 3/4/G is down to $249.00. So I may swap mine out for a test drive in the Gear S and then if I'm not sold I'll return the Gear S and get the Gear S2 3/4/G back at the much lower price and use the extra $100 toward an android wear device. I like both Tizen and Android Wear. But I missed the google apps and I love the calling features on the Gear S2 3/4G. I'm not a "RU-vidr, but any means but I think there needs to be a video discussion on how to go about getting calls on the Gear S2/3/4/G because I ran into some problems getting information. The Carrier want to charge you extra $10 to $15 dollars to use your Gear S or Gear S2 3/4/G and , you have to a be on a "Post Paid " Plan with either AT&T or T-Mobile. This point is another thorn in my side because I didn't read the fine print and I"m a "Prepaid' customer on Cricket Wireless. So for those of you who are thinking about getting either watch, check with your wireless subscriber first to see how you can use the device on their network prior to purchase. This was a gift given to me, and the gift was purchased at Best Buy, so I can't just use it without going either to AT&T or T-Mobile. Also, another point I need to emphasize. The Gear S uses a physical "Nano SIM Card" and the Gears S2 3/4/G uses what is called and eSIM or Virtual SIM card, but under you gear setting this number will appears under the "ICCID" section and nobody has addressed this yet, but it's supposed to allow users to switch between carriers. I bought mine outright (off contract) but it's an AT&T Gear S2 3/4/G not sure if it will work with T-Mobile, but it should since they use similar radio frequencies and bands. However one important question that needs to be addressed is: If you have an AT&T Gear S or Gear S2 3/4/G from ATT off contract, can T-Mobile activate it under a "Post paid service" or Vice Versa. I don't care for ATT they are pricey and customer service is lousy in my area. So this was a long Article, but I am trying to fill in the gaps and questions that are not being addressed in tech reviews. I may try out the Gear S, for a week and see if it's something I can live with. I"m not fond leaving from wireless charging from the Gear S2 3/G to a weird charger, plus the Gear S is only IP67 rated vs the IP68 of the Gear S2 3/4/G. That is just my thing. Also the Screen seems so exposed and I'm afraid I'll bump the watch too much and damage the screen, but maybe not. However I like the Screen on the Gear S and it looks more manly, I think I'll get the Gear S and wait for a viable Android Wear Watch like the Sony Watch 4 and then I'll have the best of both worlds. Yes the Sony Watch 4 is coming this Quarter at some point. Please Help Me Decide !!

Hi Andrew, I need some advice here. I am currently a Samsung Note 4 user. I am planning to get a smart watch but not sure which one should I buy. Is it still worth it to get Gear S than S2 now? Gear S has been launched for sometime and I'm wondering if it's still worth to get it compare to S2. I like the design of Gear S. I'm not the type that will change watch that fast but scare that the technology will be outdated very fast.

Yep deffo has it iv just switched it on how can I send you a photo to it's right under brightness in display Iv got a Mic inbetween the back and home button but no speaker it's the sports version I have I do love it I'm lost when forget to put it on deffo way try this auto brightness on battery issue it's got Bluetooth Wi-Fi no 3G it's paird to my s8plus via hotspot or bt tether that's pretty cool iv got a fake Chinese s1 takes the sim and sd card but it's shit for signal I want a gear s1 still lol

I've got both the Gear S and the S2 3G. I stopped wearing the original S after a few weeks - the software was that bad. The S2 is so much better. On the original, if I read/deleted an email or SMS on my phone, the notification would still need to be cleared on the watch. If I deleted an email on the Gear S, I'd then have to clear the notification. The most annoying was, if I cleared notifications on the Gear S, but didn't delete the email/SMS from my phone, they all come back again with the next incoming email. Other issues - the step counter on the Gear S was apocryphal. I could be sitting at work and get 200 steps. None of these are perfect, but so far the S2 is MUCH better with step counts. The Gear S would occasionally go crazy, flashing between screens with no response from taps, and need to be reset. So far, that hasn't happened on the S2 (but I haven't had it long enough to pass judgement on that). The Gear S just wasn't totally smooth, whereas the S2 is much smoother in function. Add all that to the much better looks and feel, and I'd never go back. I have the S2 3g on Verizon, so I'm not missing any of the calling/texting/GPS features discussed in the video.

that's the same reasons why I didn't buy the gear s . the contact charging was my only reason why not to buy it. my previous watch died in less then a year. you pay all that money just for it to die in less than a year. I went with the gear s2 3g.
