@@SuperWyzo Yes, depending on the distance where you put your speakers, is a good idea to modify the volumes to balance the sound. I use adaptive sound. Don't forget to run the callibration. And also it is important to listen the right quality of sound. Some movies have Atmos, and some normal surround. Or if you are going to listen some music, Tidal has better options than Spotify. Try Boom, in Atmos, by DJ Tiesto.

My last Soundbar was the Sony HT-ST5000 excellent Dolby Atmos soundbar, had it more than 5 years now. With the Samsung HW-Q990B i do hear quite of improvement with the rear speakers enabled more of that Dolby Atmos comes alive. Not a fan that you need to use an app to calibrate the soundbar at first place but if it works it can be done it seconds without exit your current content. Controller is lacking alot too but overall this soundbar is quite excellent connected with an Samsung tv.

Samsung has 11 horizontal channels. These are not virtual channels, but physical speakers prepared to bounce sound off the walls. If you don't think it is a good solution, you should also negate Dolby Atmos in both soundbars, because they work the same like this additional channels - by reflective sound of the walls. I have a Samsung Q950A and in movies or games you can hear at least 7.1 - 7.1.4 very noticeably (rear additional channels are worse becouse of shape of my room), and when listening to music (with the surround turned on), the stereo sound can be heard more from the corners of the room, so these channels (reflective speakers) do their job. As for the Samsung remote control, the lack of sound modes (dialogue and night mode) available from the remote is terrible, it is absurd that it can only be turned on from the phone app.

He is completely right, yes there's physical speakers but the issue is that the 11 individual speakers are meant to be separate speakers placed around you, not in a single bar Infront of you. The "sound bouncing" is more less a gimmick but a good gimmick, it works well at *simulating* true 7.1 sound but the fact is that it isnt lol.

990b is the most exceptional system compared to hta9. The beauty of 990b with spacefit ON and in adaptive mode ON.... The sound effects simply becomes better day by day. The Atmos and Surround effect is phenomenal provided the front channels are kept at lower levels as compared to rears.Blindly go for 990b...you will not regret. The dropout happens very rare...You will hardly ever notice it.

Hello, I own a Sony XR65X93J television and currently using it with Sony G700. I want to switch to a higher serial device. I was thinking of getting a Sony HT-A7000 or HT-A5000 (Including Rear speaker and subwoofer). While researching, I discovered that the Samsung Q990B has better all-around sound performance, with a lower price compared to the A7000 or A5000. However, when I see it in some comments and when I think about the brand incompatibility myself; I've read that there are problems with pairing, use and so on. I can't be completely sure. For this reason, I was undecided. some complaints are that the rear speakers of the Samsung Q990B are cut off. In addition, I have observed that those who use Sony TV sometimes encounter sound cut-outs or audio synchronization problems when Dolby Atmos and / or DTS / DTS-X are activated. In addition, I observed that sometimes problems such as synchronization, sound cut-off, not being able to control the TV remote (even though it is HDMI CEC), muting the volume, not being able to amplify, even though it is connected with EArc. Sorry, I can't be sure and can't test it. Anyone using Sony XR93J or variants like XR90J, XR80J, XR83J with Samsung Q990B? Can they share their usage experience and problems? I'm thinking of connecting my Samsung Q990B to my XR93J television with a very high quality HDMI 2.1 cable from EArc. Of course, if I reduce or eliminate these question marks. Bang for the buck the 930b is the best option. I was able to find an open box one for $700 and I don't think there is anything for that price that compares.

I have q950a 2021 model from samsung and I just love it.. not drop out issues what's so ever. My fried has 990b and I agree that sub is little better but not worth an upgrade as there is lots of drop out issues with this model. You forgot to mention you can change the settings from soundbar to adjust the individual speakers and if done correctly, it will work wonders. When you compare $ for value , there is no better option than 990b or q950a.

I was able to package the A7000, RS5s and SW3 for sound $2k. Hesitant to spend that much having put together traditional 5.1 systems in the past but zero regrets. There is however noticeable lip sync issues running ARC through the soundbar.

When I bought my Samsung Q90R TV it came with a free Q70R Harmon Kardon soundbar. It was only a 3.1.2 system with no rear speakers, but it was pretty impressive. I was very surprised by it. It used a faux surround but it did sound as if sounds were coming from all over the room. Clever how they do it. I now have last year's 11.1.4 system.

Hi FOMO! I have to install my surrounds on the wall, quite a bit higher than ear level due to my small room. Usually this would mean that I would just point the speakers downwards, towards the main listening position. However, since the Q990B's surrounds have Atmos drivers on top and also side surrounds, wouldn't that cause everything to sound wrong? Especially the Atmos, since the system is expecting to bounce the sound from the ceiling, and in this case they would be pointing almost towards the my projector screen.

Subwoofer performance is dependent upon the room size, shape, volume and where the nodes are located. My room is gigantic with a 14 foot sloped ceiling. The Samsung 990b sub placement causes it to couple with the room and it astonishingly excites the whole space very well. My main system is a big Krell 250 WPC power amp driving VMPS Super Tower R speakers with an aggregate of 2 12' mid woofers, 2 15" woofers, 2 15" bottom firing subwoofers so I recognize good bass.. The 990 is ok for a single 8" woofer in a huge room. I was pleasantly surprised, especially since I bought it for $999 when I got a big Samsung Qled.

Mr. FOMO, I am wondering if Samsung is descretely powering each of the speakers within each enclosure and it's software is able to send separate sound fields to individual speakers therefore creating the 11.1.4 channels? I don't know as I don't own either soundbar but thinking about general hifi principles of bi-amping and leveraging sound field algorithms for example. Just a thought.

I agree with your assessment of the 990B. I have the 950A and it does the job, fills the room. Atmos is pretty good overhead, front high channels are a lil weak tho. I'd say it sounds more like 7.1.4 in my room. Still, I like the Sammy better, sounds more full than the Sony

The front Height channels are just fine. All you have to do is to increase the volume from the settings and also you have to set your TV in pass-through mode. You got to also set the sound mode to Adaptive. It also depends on the content you're watching, it's got to be Dolby Atmos or DTSx or any similar sound format. And also some content is poorly produced. That's why there's always what is listed as 'the best Dolby Atmos movies. I have a q950a and it's just fine it's amazing

Yes positioning of the channels/drivers aren't appropriate and that's why you will hear mostly 5.1 or 7.1 type surround sound but it actually does have 11 drivers.

Hey I have a question. Would you say the q990b would be a good compromise instead of getting a full fledge 5.1 separates with avr? I heard one RU-vidr say it’s on par with a Sony receiver (Sony STR-DN1080) and separates. I’ve been watching movies with just the tv speakers (lg cx)…. So I’m guessing that would be a major upgrade. Would you say the q990b is on par with some Low to mid grade home theater systems ?

With same Sony a7000 setup, if I choose DTS Neural X, I don't get Dolby Atmos on soundbar (on Netflix movies as an example), clicking on Display button on remote control shows only Dolby Audio. Did you manage to set the soundbar somehow to display Dolby Atmos with DTS Neural X for Atmos sources?

My experience: Bought the Sony A7000 with SW5. It was ok for the price but I wasn't blown away. I really liked how loud it got but the Atmos effect was very weak and I had a lot of issues with cut outs despite having a very good line of site layout. I returned the Sony system and got the Q990B. This is not an exaggeration. The Q990B honestly put the Sony to shame. This system is almost in another tier. The atmos effect is so much better. If you listen to a lot of music on your soundbar then the Q990B also is in another league.

I have been using Sony A5000 Soundbar with Subwoofer SW5 and Wireless Speaker RS5. I followed the setting you recommended here to disable the 360 Spatial & enable DTS:X. HTA9 has a wider soundstage due to the left and right front. I’ve heard good things about the virtual center channel. It’s very good with music too. Thing is you gotta pair it with the sw5 Sony sub. The 990b is gonna give you a better center channel overall better tone and less compression but the height effects aren’t quite as pronounced or dynamic. Both are great I went with the 990c because I got it for 1k vs how expensive the A9 is

Great video. Can you please suggest a sound bar for a space of 200 to 250 sq ft. Dialogue clarity is most important for me but ofcourse need good mids and base as well. Don't want something that will disturb neighbours. It should give very good dialogue clarity and surround sound effect even at low volume. TV size max 65 inch. Look forward to your expert opinion on the best few options for Samsung and Sony TVs.

I have the Sony A5000 soundbar along with the same subwoofer and surrounds, I have noticed that the DTS will shift to Dolby Atmos when that signal is delivered, you’ll have to disable Atmos in your source settings (BlueRay player Apple TV etc.) in order for DTS to stay engaged. The 360 Spatial Audio is supposed to be a major feature of the Sony interesting that you recommend to turn it off🤔

S990B was delivered to me 5 days ago. I`m pretty impressed and pleased. No disconnect issues. Sound could be fine tuned to your needs, only usable mode is adaptive, movies sound great. I can recommend it for $1000 or less, not the full price. I think you won`t be dissapointed with cheaper model (930B) - but that might be only me.

What exactly is the point of batteries in the surround speakers on the Sony? Most folk will have them on mounts or stands and need to be able to connect them to mains power to charge them anyway. Unless you want to take them to another room to use as a bluetooth speaker? Struggling to see the benefit of this.

2 scenarios. Soundbar used is ambeo and tv is SONY XR A95( XR-65A95K) 1. If I connect amazon firestick 4k to hdmi in of the soundbar and then tv's hdmi earc port with hdmi out of soundbar via hdmi 2.1 cable, the sound of, let's say a movie on Netflix, isn't that great. 2. I connect amazon firestick 4k to any hdmi in port of TV. Tv 's hdmi earc port remains connected to hdmi out (earc) port of soundbar via hdmi 2.1 cable. And then I play movies on Netflix app of firestick 4k. Sound is completely different and better. I tested ambeo with these. In the first setting, even ambeo didn't sound great. What are your thoughts?

I think alot of people are forgetting about room size and all with these soundbars realistically, so many taking them back over and over to get new ones thinking its the soundbar itself when its just their setup of it. It all depends on alot of things

Ugh the dropouts makes me nervous. I had subwoofer drop outs with my Samsung sound bar from many years ago. I since bought an LG sound bar that has performed flawlessly… Having dropouts from a products in 2022 at this price point seems ridiculous… I really want to get this bar though. I currently have an LG C2 so I’m hoping it has no issues with that handshake similar to what people said about this bar connecting to Sony TVs…

4:21 actually they do have 11 physical speakers, with 2 side firing speakers on both sides of the soundbar. Which gives you 7 channels up front. Each satellite speaker has front firing drivers and one side firing driver, which adds up to 11, but it still does sound more like 5 channels with signal processing

Hey fomo. I got the sony a95k. Would u recommend the sony at a9 or sony 7000 with the rear up firing speakers? Which would have better dialogue and clarity? Also which would be less boomy in the face? thanks!

The A7000 is capable of using the A95k's screen speaker to enhance the center channel and make dialogs sound clearer. At least that's the theory. I myself would be very much interested how much of a difference that makes. I myself am interested in the A95k and an appropriate soundbar/speaker system is one of the considerations going into the thought process. I wouldn't want to overspend without hearing a noticeable difference. That said, dialog clarity is important to me.

Interesting you chose the surround setting on the Q990B as many in the forums have said the Adaptive Sound setting is the best and I’m inclined to agree. I got my Q990B about a month ago and it’s been great except for the subwoofer cutting out. Pissed me off so much I called Samsung. Turns out it was a hardware defect and I got mine changed out under warranty. The subwoofer cut out has dropped by 99% since I changed it. Before, it would even drop off completely at times and not reconnect so I had to manually reconnect the soundbar back to the subwoofer. Now the only time it happened was when I connected Spotify to my soundbar and it cut off for a split second. I think it has something to do with the wifi connection. I’ll continue to monitor and if it happens a couple more times I’ll change out the soundbar completely under warranty (the Samsung team are very helpful in this matter). Another pet peeve I have with the Samsung is the Smart Things app takes FOREVER to load the soundbar because it has to connect to Samsung’s server. Like 3s if you’re lucky, 10-15s if you’re not. I wish Samsung would remove the necessity of connecting to their servers before we’re able to access the settings. Overall, the SQ is 10/10 compared to all the soundbars I’ve tested so far (audiophile hate incoming). IMHO the only things hindering the Q990B is the subwoofer cutting out and the Smart Things app having to connect to the Samsung server EVERYTIME you open the app.

Huh? The TV doesn't have upfiring speakers of that nature. The TV is only used to complement the forward soundfield and to stretch it further into the picture area of the TV.

I was thinking of getting a Sony HT-A7000 or HT-A5000 (Including Rear speaker and subwoofer). While researching, I discovered that the Samsung Q990B has better all-around sound performance, with a lower price compared to the A7000 or A5000. However, when I see it in some comments and when I think about the brand incompatibility myself; I've read that there are problems with pairing, use and so on. I can't be completely sure. For this reason, I was undecided. some complaints are that the rear speakers of the Samsung Q990B are cut off. In addition, I have observed that those who use Sony TV sometimes encounter sound cut-outs or audio synchronization problems when Dolby Atmos and / or DTS / DTS-X are activated. In addition, I observed that sometimes problems such as synchronization, sound cut-off, not being able to control the TV remote (even though it is HDMI CEC), muting the volume, not being able to amplify, even though it is connected with EArc. Sorry, I can't be sure and can't test it. Anyone using Sony XR93J or variants like XR90J, XR80J, XR83J with Samsung Q990B? Can they share their usage experience and problems? I'm thinking of connecting my Samsung Q990B to my XR93J television with a very high quality HDMI 2.1 cable from EArc. Of course, if I reduce or eliminate these question marks. I have this SoundBar connected with my Sony Bravia X900 using HDMI ARC Cable. Problem I'm facing is when I increase the Volume using TV Remote, it goes up nicely. But when I'm reducing the volume using the TV Remote, the volume only reduces to 14 or 12 or 5 and holds there. It never goes down all the way down to Zero. When using the Samsung Remote, it does work as expected. Anybody else having the same issue. Please help.

I have a Samsung Harman/Kardon HW-N950 and will never recommend anyone buying a Samsung sound bar. I am happy with the soundbar sound except the constant issues with Apple devices Bluetooth interruptions and disconnections. For a premium sound bar which costs more than a USD 1000 it only had one firmware update (issued on may 27th.2019) which corrected some issues with bar itself but not all! I think users deserves a lot more for the price they pay!

I have the Sony system as well as Samsung HWQ950A, and the Sony system sounds sibilant and tinny when connected to my G1 or my QN90A. The 950A sounds way better on both, however, connected to my A90J (not using center speaker) the Sony system sounds quite good as does the Q950A. My guess is there is something in the processing between devices that create the sound quality differences in the Sony.

I definitely do NOT like the A7000 to use the audio from any Sony TV - I believe the A7000 is better, of course this is from my 65" Sony TV - maybe the 85" Z9K or 83" A90J has better audio to match the A7000.

The sony bar sounds better with the sony oled tv because they Sony's version of q symphony. It only works with sony oled models j and k. The bars that do that are the a3000, 5000, and 7000

After watching Andrew Robinson's video on the X95K and how it interacted with the Samsung HWQ990B I'm more convinced there is something in the audio processing among different brands; or more specifically Sony, that allow one bar to play nice with a different brand of TV. My Samsung Q950A plays nice with all the TVs that the 7000 did not

What needs to be noted here is that the Samsung bars, across their entire soundbar lineup, are among the most returned products at just about any electronics store. Walk into the back area where the open box items are and you are likely to see close to a dozen Samsung bars at any given time, even the highest end models. For some reason, they get returned all the time by the customers that purchase them. In comparison, you'll likely not see any open box/returned soundbars from Sony as those only come back once in a great while. For whatever reason, the customers that buy the Sony bars tend to be far happier with them than the customers that buy either the Samsung or the LG bars.

I work at best buy and this isn't the case at all for the higher end Samsungs. It's the cheaper ones that do, but that's all brands. Sony just doesn't sell the cheaper models because they know it will hurt their reputation. Samsung still does because they want to offer at everyone's price point. We warn customers about cheaper models but they don't listen. Still this isn't a quality issue, it's a manipulation tactic by Sony. Don't offer cheap, don't look cheap. Apple has done this for years.

I have the Bose 900 with dual 700 bass modules and the Omnis but I still enjoy soundbar reviews. The A7000 has been out for quite some time and there still isn't any overall consensus pertaining to it. I have the A90J and I had thought of purchasing it to complement my display but I have shelved that line of thinking. On the flip side the overall consensus of the Q990B is that it is excellent but is plagued with issues. I've been with Bose since 2017 and I'm playing with the idea of trying something else. I'm waiting for the Sennheiser Ambeo Plus to be released and the reviews of it. The main point that makes the Plus interesting to me is the fact that more than one sub can be added. Once you've experienced dual subs there's no going back to just one.

If you’re having rear speaker disconnection problem Just connect the q990b to a 5G wifi network (note) not a 2G network and change the 5G wifi frequency to channel 48 and you will be fine, this is the solution to the rear speaker disconnecting problem.

without subwoofer for movies, they'll sound very similar, the critical difference is adding the subwoofer. The Sonos sub is better than the Sony SW5. And if you plan to listen to music, the Arc overall is a more musical soundbar as it was designed with music in mind - the pairing with a Sony TV is not a big deal at all
