Watch as the San Jose Sharks pull off the impossible comeback, scoring 4 times on a major power play against the Vegas Golden Knights and winning it in OT! Sharks vs Golden Knights April 23 2019
@@kenconnelly773 Honestly it's more on Stastny. Eakin crosschecks him to get to the point faster, sure 2 minutes. Stastny probably not on purpose grabs onto Pavs while he's off balance and drives him down head first.
I'm a fan of neither team but saw this on TV when it happened. Still can't believe it. Incredible stuff, even if the penalty was bogus. Pretty typical for MAF! 😁😁😁😁
Christian Collins I think it’s the sweep Columbus did. 2019 had to be the strangest playoffs ever. All the number one seeds eliminated in the first round.
Okay but the fact they needed a bad call to win. They didn’t score ANY goals during 5 on 5 except for overtime. Vegas scored all of our goals legit so guess what bad call.
@@exclusivemega9051 too bad they had 3 games to close out the series, and the calls in game 2 were questionable. Whatever you want to say this PK was embarrassing. Sharks were nearly last place last regular season yet lead the ENTIRE LEAGUE in their Penalty Kill
@@exclusivemega9051 Fuck that the knight fucking had them but they couldn’t finish them off. Knights also got an equally questionable call in their favor. Cry me a river. Hawks Fan right here
Yah well if it was a 2 min not a 5 it wouldnt of turned that way a 5 min power play on the defensive team iz hell for those guys and melts ur legs and lungs. Or if this happened in the 1st this wasnt happening on just a 2 min. Its sad when the announcer says its a shit and horriable call that tells yah something. No 5 min has ever been given for something bogus like that.
@@matthewrichard9158 - Right on. Also, did Gallant even call a time out to calm his team? And what is with leaving a 37 year old sub par defensemen out there for EVERY goal? It's edited and I don't remember the shift changes, but Deryk should hang them up. Dude was awful in that situation.
Matthew Richard nah more every hockey fan will say the pk crumbled and every Vegas fans are crying a river like I understand that was a questionable call but 4 goals?
408. Javi and I was one of those ones screaming & jumping up & down. Best game I’ve ever seen at the Tank. And the city of SJ kept the party going for awhile. I had 17,000 friends that night.
@@MrJJCuevasI'm don't disagree with it being a sketchy call, but they aren't the first team to deal with the adversity of a bad call in a crucial game. Hell the Stars won a Stanley cup on a missed call. The fact that Vegas' pk shit the bed should be just as much to blame for them losing. I get it though. You're talking to a Leafs fan here, I've wanted to whoop Kerry Fraser's ass since 1993 lol.
This is the Sharks’ finest hour. Until they win a (long overdue) cup, this is their best moment. Vengeance, fury and tenacity to come back and win this game and this series after being pushed to the brink of death. This is the majesty of sport.
Things are so shitty for the sharks right now, I just came back to watch this again as it was peak Sharks. That comeback to put Vegas away was the best hockey i've ever watched in my life. Looking forward to when all the top draft picks start making an impact and I get to watch meaningful hockey again!
We got the first draft pick, at the very least. See if we can turn it around - and the sad part is, I WORK at the Sharks facility. We’re well aware of how awful the situation is right now
I've watched many incredible hockey games. This I think is right up there with the top ones. They were down 3-0. Their Captain went down, and somehow someway they willed their way to win the game, and the series. Goosebumps.
I was in section 123 Row 15. I’ve seen us advance to a cup, I’ve seen every big moment in that arena possible. Tonight was special. Tonight will live in the hearts of those in attendance forever. Bravo NHL
Remember what the bruins went on to win that year after the comeback. It is wins like this that can carry teams through to the end. For cats saying Colorado actully has a chance? They cold now, good luck.
This one was for Pavelski. When he went down hard on the ice,his boys responded BIG TIME by scoring 4 straight goals in a 5 minute major. The series clinching game winning goal in overtime was oh so sweet. Next up:the Avalanche. #GOSHARKS!
When this happened you could sense a spiritual shift in the sharks. Regardless of what actually happened, when pavelski was down you could feel that anger rising in the sharks because it looked really bad in real time. Talk about a motivational boost in morale and vigor
I would suggest that is what changed the game for the Sharks, not the 5 minute power play. You could see their demeanor completely change. Never seen them do that before and I have been watching them for over 20 years.
and everyone, including the VGK, knew how much of a leader little Joe was on that team, what a motivator and concerned, caring almost "coaching" player he was on that team. And to think he was injured and maybe even close to dying, death knocking at the door ... that woke the team up irreversably...so that Couture and Hertl were almost instinctually impelled towards a greater-than-themselves will to succeed and do little Joe right, and to do themselves right, to do humanity itself right. To redeem all wrongs and see that all things can be good again!!!! And let's not go astray here and think it's all Couture and Hertl. No way! Those 2 would be the very first to place garlands over the necks of the Lebancs of this world!
It reminded me of when PK9 went down in 03. The Ducks responded when he went down. When PK9 came back, there was no doubt the Ducks would lose, and when he scored, that left no doubt. This moment is their comeback moment in time
I never get tired of watching this! One player who needs to get a lot of credit for his play during this stretch is Timo Meier. He was the enforcer on the ice immediately after the Pavelski injury, and was a big part of maybe every goal the Sharks scored on that major penalty. He was in Fleury's grill the whole time and gave Sharks shooters advantages by taking away Fleury's eyes.
I was working concessions at this game and I’m not kidding when I tell you that most of the staff was watching the game on the TVs backstage when this was happening.
I wasn't at this game. But my apartment was right across the street from the SAP center. I heard the eruptions from the crowd each time the Sharks scored and I knew something special was happening. Bravo gentlemen!
Based on the cross checking rule is was a 5 minute major, though Here’s the text of the rule: Rule 609 | Cross-Checking (Note) Cross-checking is the action of using the shaft of the stick between the two hands to forcefully check an opponent with no portion of the stick on the ice. (a) A minor or a major penalty shall be assessed for cross-checking an opponent. (b) A major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who injures an opponent as a result of cross-checking.
No penalty was called when the cross check happened the penalty was called after they seen that he was injured they never seen the penalty should have never been called at most two minute minor was know intent to injure ref's have screwed up all year nhl needs to start fining refs for bad call's it is ridiculous that they are aloud to affect the outcome of games
59.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player who “cross checks” an opponent (see 59.5).
Honestly I had no idea this had happened because I was mostly trying to digest the shock of my Blue Jackets performing the greatest upset ever. And then my dad told me about it, and I looked it up. I swear I had a tear coming down just witnessing this. God the 2019 Playoffs will always be the greatest postseason in hockey history!
It was. If you listen to Randy Hahn's call of the game, you can barely hear him over the crowd, and he can definitely get into his goal calls (last year, he basically blew his voice out during the 8-1 win over Anaheim). My voice was ROUGH for a few days after the game, but it was worth it :D
Watching this during the 2023 playoffs to relive my excitement during this game, literally cried tears of joy during the OT goal, almost all my og fav sharks players are gone now 😭❤️
This is why the NHL playoffs are the greatest sport known to mankind - - this was an unforeseen epic come back it will be drawn from the archives throughout the rest of history - - loved Fluery as a goalie with Pittsburgh and kind of felt sorry for him but you gotta give it to the sharks because after that injury it was like they flipped a switch and put the pedal to the floor and did not let up -Looking forward to this year’s NHL playoffs because undoubtedly we’re going to see something like this again
My friends living in Vegas were pissed off beyond description, telling me that there shouldn't have been a power play. But Hockey rules are pretty clear, you play too rough, you sit in the box. And if you draw blood, you do it for 5 minutes. Even if you do it on accident. Joe Pavelski was out for 9 days after that hit, missing the first couple of games of the next series. As a lifelong Sharks fan, this comeback highlight reel has given me a priceless memory that fills the void quite nicely while waiting for them to raise the cup.
Oh man, being at this game was one of the greatest experiences in my life!! The Shark Tank was so unbelievably loud that night, and I definitely lost my voice in that 3rd period!!!
Imagine being a Vegas fan when it’s 3-0 and you think the game is over and goes on RU-vid for 10 minutes and then sees if the buzzer sounded yet and then sees the sharks are winning 3-4
I’ve seen leafs, caps, habs, flyers and jets fans all saying this comeback was awesome. Such a memorable moment in nhl history. (Coming from a habs fan btw)
The sharks are widely respected as the Underdog of the league, and the Sleeper of the West Conference. As a Leafs guy turned Canucks fan, NEVER *EVER* count out the Sharks out of a game, no matter the stakes.
Reminds me of flyers vs bruins 2010 game 7. Same thing. Series Boston 3-0 lead came back to game 7 and started the game 3-0 and the flyers came back to win it. Awesome !!
Golden Knights : Bullshit call! Reality: You blew a 3-1 lead in the series, you practically put Pavs in a coma and wonder why you got a 5mn major, you blew a 3-0 lead within 3 minutes in game 7 Welcome to the NHL playoffs boys
Anyone who thinks momentum isn't that important in sports needs to watch this game. I remember watching this on TV and how many people had already left the arena. Was absolutely epic to watch!
As a sharks fan i come back to this video every couple months Because it is so awesome. I remember watching this on my phone before bed going crazy after that OT goal
I saw one in person, went against the home team..Game 3, 1998, St Louis at LA, The Forum...one of the Kings was set to go off for a minor penalty, and St Louis’s Geoff Courtnall totally ran the Kings’ GT Jamie Storr. Defenseman Sean O Donnell took exception and it looked like a fight, where both guys would get 5 for fighting and life would go on. Nope - the refs called Courtnall for charging (not goalie interference) and O’Donnell got 5 for fighting and a game misconduct. So St Louis got a 5 minute major, and in 4 minutes (almost the exact time that San Jose used), turned an 0-3 deficit into a 4-3 lead (and win). Blues swept the series in the next game. That was the Kings’ last playoff series at The Forum, and continued a playoff futility stretch of not having won a postseason game since winning Game 1 at Montreal in the 1993 Stanley Cup Final. This futility streak lasted until Round 1, Game 3, 2001, when LA beat Detroit. Footnote: LA and St Louis met in 2012 for the first time in the postseason since that 1998 Game 3...and swept the Blues 4-0. The next season they met again, and after St Louis won the first two at home, LA won 4 straight to take that first round series.
I just revisited this clip after hearing Gord Miller reference it on a telecast. He and Ray Ferraro did an amazing job. And no, we've never seen anything like it. This game will go down in hockey lore.
Seeing Marc-André Fleury let in goals and do that ridiculous skate lap to the corner after each goal trying to fight off his tears will remain one of my favorite things to watch in the NHL until the day he retires.
Fred Ziffel Good thing they apologized. I wonder if Vegas apologized to their “fans” for their shit PK? If every team who got screwed by the refs got a phone call, the lines would be very, very busy.
@@hollytempest1327 I think it was because it was one of the worst AND one of the most impactful calls ever. Imagine the vegas players that may never make it back to the playoffs. their only chance at a cup ruined by two referees who never even saw the penalty take place
Honestly gets me goosebumps and watery eyes, that was an unbelievable night, was in the building, will never forget this game. Seeing this clip never gets old!
For me, the Sharks eliminating those rotten scumbags VGK was a bigger pleasure than the disappointment of another Maple leafs elimination by Boston. No Canadians teams left but this year is for the Sharks Go Sharks!!
Lots of Canadians left just no Canadian based team .Its hard for Canadian based teams to win when there is 24 based American teams and only 7 based Canadian teams.Canadian based teams are out numbered 11-4 in the west and 13-3 in the east, One eastern division has no Canadian based teams at all
Leo Lopez...Ever hear of the Seven Deadly Sins? ENVY is the one that most directly affects your own piece of mind. I realize it has to be rough being a Leafs fan, and that you're bitter over the success of an expansion team's inaugural record shattering season, but let me tell you something about the "rotten scumbags VGK" as you refer to them. First, every one of those players acquired in the expansion draft, either by being left unprotected or via trade, were not considered a top asset or valuable enough by their former clubs. So their common bond in the beginning was having something to prove; to show their worthiness. Motivational factor # 1. Motivational factor # 2 - Two days prior to the season opener in Phoenix, and ten days prior to the inaugural season home opener, the tragic event that came to be known as "ONE OCTOBER" devastated this city. These players, who didn't ask to come here, suddenly found themselves representatives of a community that was rocked to it's core by a selfish act of violence that made no sense. In between practicing for the first few times together, they were out in the community visiting survivors in the hospitals, donating blood, and making a statement that this organization is first class off the ice, before they were ever able to show if they were any good on the ice. The original pregame ceremony, with all the glitz of a Las Vegas world class show, was written, rehearsed, and ready to go....but was scrapped in favor of a somber, yet inspirational tribute honoring the victims who lost their lives and the courage/dedication of the emergency services/first responders. Ask any Golden Knights player how they were able to rise to the level it takes to play in an NHL game following such an emotional ceremony, and they'll tell you the inspiration they felt was unlike anything they'd ever experienced; they knew they HAD to win that game. They came out on fire, scoring 4 goals before the halfway point of period 1. They wound up winning the inaugural home game 5-2, and they never looked back...they bonded together in a way that allowed chemistry to develop, and they rode that inspirational, emotional wave all season long and into the post season...and all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. I was at the concert the night of the shooting. So sorry if I take it a little more personally when someone refers to my team in the way you did. Have a great day.
@@vegasmobydick I stopped reading as soon as you mentioned "envy". It's the go-to "argument" for anyone who can't cope emotionally with the fact that other people are disliking something that you like. Your welfare team is out, and it's sweet. Deal with it.
Truly sorry about October 1 but I fail to see how this matters this season and this series in particular. VGK shit the bed this series. Should have finished the Sharks in games 5 or 6. Maybe this "character" you cite in your missive above will lead them to a Cup next year? And maybe not. Keep watching though. Hockey is a great sport. Especially nice to see newbie fans get excited about the sport.
Such a shame, was hoping we'd get to see Marleau play his old team for the cup too. Its been the strangest playoff hockey season ever. Literally every team I thought was going to advance didn't advance, and I love the Sharks, but with all their injuries I didn't think they could move past Vegas.
I had the opportunity to DJ this game, as my third Career in-game season, and this was by far the gnarliest game I've ever been at and part of! I can't explain how loud it was in that arena and the emotion that was running rampid... You had to be there! Thank you for reposting this!!!
