We are a retired married couple 59 yrs no children just a little dog looking to move from the US to live in Mexico leaving the US for the wonderful values the Mexican people have we we will pay for ourselves not expecting to obtain anything but Mexican friends and love offered by the people we respect. Intend on doing volunteer work in the community it's a major move but the US no longer shares our values. We do not intend to take Mexican jobs nor welfare. I am Irish Catholic, we have our own retirement pension we are not on US social security. Thanks to the couple doing this video BuT I could not understand the Asian lady at all and I know there is more to this beautiful place then the One very nice Taco restaurant.

Always welcome, just one thing: San Miguel is not only beautiful houses and streets, it is also a Mexican community with history, traditions and social challenges. It is NOT a Disney style cute little town available to gentrify it. We appreciate so many fantastic US friends being part of the solution of community’s problems all around Mexico. Regards.

Tramiten sus papeles y paguen impuestos (esto nos ayuda a todos), y 3. No gentrifiquen porque eso daña la economía mexicana. Dicho lo anterior: Bienvenidos!! ❤❤❤

"San Miguel de Allende is NOT what we THOUGHT!" What did you expect? " What's the big deal" you ask. I suggest you stay a while . A "half day " visit to see / experience / taste San Miguel de Allende is not possible. We moved here nearly 20-years ago and love it for many reasons: primarily for its weather, history, cuisine and our wonderful Mexican neighbors. PS: We do not live in those fancy houses featured in your film nor we frequent the ritzy tourist attractions you so much admired. There is more to San Miguel de Allende than El Centro and immediate surrounding area. On your next visit take a bit more time and discover what defines the San Miguel experience that lures people from all over the world to visit / live in this city. Nonetheless a fine but rather abbreviated film.

I don't understand why people leave the negatives of a town like San Miguel. It is one of the "stronghold" areas for the cartel and is so crowded, you have to compete to get a good shot of the sunset. What about "gringo gulch"....look it up. It's not nearly as safe as they portray. Don't rely on RU-vid alone for your information.

If you had come to Florida during the Covid shut down you’d have found the same thing. Everything was closed of course. Many businesses didn’t reopen. The shut down destroyed them. I lived in San Miguel de Allende for 10 years. There are different groups of expats. They created a parallel culture. One that many natives consider off side and pretentious. Talk to local families in Spanish. Otomis have beautiful traditions.

Thankyou we know little Spanish but intend on learning we have visited Mexico 8x and never had issues communicating with local Mexicans as with traveling in 68 countries most speak English if not again we can communicate. It's called the golden rule Treat others as you wish to be treated. We also Respect Rules of residency. We are Very upset over US border crisis where we see migrants trails of trash thrown all over First impression matters. These people don't care are going for Free living welfare off our tax paying backs the Mexican people want people like us. We will pay our own are law abiding have no disease will apply for residency will become Mexican citizens. The US is endangering it's people with people who don't value the USA but to feed off of it. The biggest welfare recipients in the US are corporations, not some poor people who need a meal. Maybe quit listening to Faux News and learn what is really happening. We have never been. We will retire in Mexico soon but when making our list of possible cities we eliminated all hot cities and all expat enclaves. We speak Spanish and don’t care about being around lots of expats. We also don’t want a city where the expats have run the prices way up. San Miguel and Lake Chapala, without seeing it yet, seems like it might be too USA light for us. We still have a short list but looks like San Cristobal or Queretaro.
@Mexicobeanpole
@Mexicobeanpole Год назад
We lived in Chapala for 2 years. So much to love about it. But the expats? We did make friends, but it was the gossipy Peyton place atmosphere and the multiple “ugly Americans” that ran us off. I can’t handle seeing expats being overtly rude to local workers. It’s their country. We are just guests.

Why are all of them called "Expats" while we Mexicans in the states called "immigrants"??
@dreamlifeinMexico
@dreamlifeinMexico Год назад
The Cambridge Dictionary defines an expat as: “someone who does not live in their own country” And it defines an immigrant as: “a person who has come to a different country in order to live there permanently” So, we can see that both terms can be applied to someone that has moved out of their native country to live abroad. Often, an immigrant is seen as someone who has moved to another country permanently, and an expat may be seen to have moved to a country temporarily. Expats may be more likely to move around than an immigrant.
@jore5131
@jore5131 Год назад
@@dreamlifeinMexico 🤣🤣🤣 So who is to day that alot of "expats" living in the U.S are expats or immigrants since alot of them move back to their homeland? And how can someone tell if an "immigrant" will only be here for some years and move back? People will still call them immigrants regardless
@tommoncrieff1154
@tommoncrieff1154 Год назад
Ex Pat is short for the Latin, Ex Patria. It’s used between 2 or more people originating from the same country who live ex patria in another country, or is used between them and their own nationality back home - I’m an ex pat in Mexico. To each other they are ex pats. To the people of the country they have moved to, they are immigrants.
