@Xyler94

How is towing with electric? Curious, I don't need tons of towing every day, but it'd be nice to know I can tow at least 80km if needs arise, :)
@andrewradford3953
@andrewradford3953 2 года назад
@@Xyler94 It mainly depends on how aerodynamic the trailer is, and towing speed. We have a caged trailer with 6 240 litre bins standing up in it. At average speeds of around 80kmh we loose about 20% range. Previously we had 3 bins lying down in an uncaged trailer and a very full car, and lost about 10%. We collect about a ton of bread over three 50km trips in a week.

@@alaricgoldkuhl155 you mean when and if the Cybertruck comes out. Its been postponed yet again. But that doesn't matter because Ford has been the number one selling vehicle for the last 44 yrs and for a good reason. Ever hour of the day Ford sells 100 F-150 for 365 days of the year. Remember one's a lifestyle truck and the other is a common luxury work truck. People who own them don't have to buy new tool boxes, campers and bedcovers. And its large percentage of the state and government agencies workforce trucks are Ford F-150's. Not including the private sector and all of the loyal customers and contractors who have been purchasing them for years and decades. These are the specs that matter, and my hope is that Ford can close the gap a little at least. They came with a plug in hybrid and said in the very first minute they don’t think EVs will ever make it. That the plug in is not worth the money and that they know best how to make motors. We answered that with the question why so many companies are looking into coating of batteries but not them? No answer. The rest is history. These peoples btw don’t work there as far as I know... The main question is will Ford be able to sell the low-end versions of the Ford F-150 Lightning EV for a profit? It seems to me that CAPEX for this new EV truck must be very high. Ford may need to sell hundreds of thousands of these EV trucks in the first few years or Ford may be in trouble. It's a catch-22: Ford needs to sell a lot of these EV trucks, but doing so would mean that the EV sales would eat into the sales of the more profitable ICE versions.

You could compare the quantity and highlight the abundance of increased/ decreased failures. This could be a series. An episode could be made to highlight what could be changed to increase the life of electric cars, like an Electric car with two smaller motors, less acceleration, and other ideas that increase the life of components even more.

@1djbecker
@1djbecker 3 года назад
@@vidznstuff1 Teslas are middle-of-the-pack for repairability. Model 3/Y are better than the old S/X, and the situation is rapidly improving. Some common repairs have become much more convenient than conventional models. Tesla now makes pre-painted bumper covers for the 3/Y. That is a major decrease in time and expense. Sure, doing that is made easier by only having 6 colors and using mobil service supported by regional centers, but you can't deny that is an advantage. Tesla also does automatic ADAS alignment and calibration. That might not seem like an obscure detail, but compare it to something like the Audi Q7. Bumper cover replacement requires the dealer to "recalibrate" the ADAS cameras and radar for a typical additional charge $650-$800.

From Australia: I know the USA is the only country that calls a current car's year of manufacture by the next year's date (highly illegal here), but I did think this Big Ute (as we call it), doesn't actually release until 2022. So how did Sandy get his hands on a production model? If they export them to outside the USA, will the batteries be able to handle our 240 volt system with those power points (outlets) on the rear?? (The 95% of the world is 240 volts). I used to drive F150's when I was a police officer in Sydney. They had a 5.8 litre engine and chewed through 2 tanks of petrol a shift. They were our "paddy wagons". They were a beast. I actually like this EV version way more than the Cybertruck. It is just so practical for anyone who wants one.

just realised something , about the F 150 , the fact that the battery is isolated from the frame is very unique. it occurs to me that this could possibly operate like a tuned mass damper , as used in F 1 cars. or in a sky scraper to prevent it swaying.
