I agree Just enjoy "REAL" music. Compared to the copied music today where no one is creating there own hand written music, just ripping off the old tunes. We need to have forum for new artists to have there music played! My kids and everyone else's kids have a right to good music.Enough of the copy (rip off) music
One of the most important things about this, not just seeing the amazing players and their instruments up close, is that they all have such identifiable styles. While the scales and note choices may be similar for the key of the jam, the vibrato, touch, tone, attack, decay, all these factors make this so amazing to watch. Today everyone plays like Stevie, and there’s nothing wrong with that but to hear people with an organic and individual style is so refreshing!! They’re not afraid to sound like themselves, not judging themselves for being ‘good’ or not.
Totally agree, but keep in mind that stevie also copied all his heros, until like '77 where he started to develop his own style. This is from the book about him "Texas Flood".
There's no scales and there's no choice between these brothers they don't fillet the fish they're everything under God that anyone could wish they put it in the hoop and they shut it through and through and that's the shit or the ship or the fish between the goat and the ram
Amen brother you know what music really is it's the word in the pic in the frets or other consonants and the sound is the vowel because we all see and repeat and be scared and the mice run and we are the tea to the owl!
Saw Santana in Fall of '83 @ Saratoga Perfoming Arts Center. Real nice outdoor concert- right after camping & canoing in the Adirondacks for 3 days with 3 friends. Weather rare warm that time of year. Saw SRV at a free outdoor concert at State Univ of NY-New Paltz- in 1983 . He was not well know then. Started guitar playin in late 80's-think SRV would be proud of my tone & my licks. Really have bummed out over his loss for last 18 years. He was an amazing talent and we got raw deal when he died!
This pure heaven. Just pure heaven. How these guitars howl and make their nasty moves. Just freekin Brilliant. One of the best five minutes fiftytwo seconds of music ever recorded. Gods play this to me in Heaven.
Maybe I'm hormonal today but seeing SRV with Carlos and the rest of those wonderful musos is bringing tears to my eyes. Souls are flying all over that stage and you can feel it. wonderful stuff. Jeff Makor x
Hes playin the double neck behind Jimmy. There is another video from this concert. They play "Everybody's Everything". Stevie lets loose pretty good on that one. Its on RU-vid somewhere. I think I have it in my favorites
It's not a competition. It's music. It's inspiration. It's love. It's respect. And you can tell that Jimmy, SRV, Santana, and everyone on stage has all of these things. For me, Carlos is transcendent and epitomizes why the guitar was invented. But it's not a competition people. I'd give anything to be able play half as well as any of them.
Santana is a benevolent agent of Christ he loves everyone treats everyone with respect and that's why his manager had to be his own wife; I met him and we had a non-alcoholic champagne toast with the sound, light, and album artists of the superlative and supernatural tour with matchbox 20 at that time! I must say that man and his wife and his music and that sound and his fingers are the tools of the Lord; Amen! And that man's Wife was a tall cool woman in a black dress, with leopard print leggings and some high heels; and we all know he deserved every bit of it! Santana allowed me to meet his wife.. That's nothing more than the blessing of taking an angel sent from God and looking my way just to say hi! 🌒💙🌘 I could never forget!
I think jimmie´s solo is great, not as hard as Cesar Rosas´ but pure Jimmie, And Stevie, oh man! when he changes from baritone six-string bass to regular, you can feel it, like Capton said of him "he played as if he was a channel, conected", and is a right way to say it, Stevie was connected, gifted, has nothing to see with skills or hability, he was touched by God.
Why, for the love of God, in the middle of Stevie?!? That's worse than handing me a big ole slice of homemade cheesecake and then sucker punching me as I take the first savory bite..... that's just plain mean.

I hate it that it was cut short. I would have loved to have heard SRV solo on that. his Bass playing was mind blowing. that was a first for me to see him play bass. thanks for the upload. it kicks ass.
Stevie isnt playing bass, he's playing a baritone guitar. It does have some low notes though...first time I have seen it played too. I like the feeling between the players that there is "nothing to prove" I am biased though, SRV is my fav.
Holy shit this gives me goosebumps. I was there, at this show, I think. Pacific Amphitheater. I can't remember if John Lee Hooker played that year too.
Mind tellin' me where Stevie Ray Vaughan is? Nevermind! Just came across his part... awesome! Great video, thanks for the upload. I thought I had seen/heard everything Stevie had done but I guess not. You find something new every day.
Carlos is the best to ever play rock guitar. David Hidalgo be remembered with the best , it will just take historical perspective for him to be fully appreciated. Just listen to Los Lobos work on the Desperado soundtrack. Clapton hasn't taken a chance with his music since 1970. I wonder if Jimmy and SRVaughn would've formed a modern Supergroup had he lived?
stevie really could play anything and pull it off couldnt he?i mean he basically played his favourite albert king licks on david bowies let's dance and that worked.
The Asian looking dude is not the dude from the Deftones, not even sure if the Deftones existed in '88. The 'Dude' is Cesar Rosas from the mighty Los Lobos!!!
@cmacd02 I highly doubt it man! Too bad we couldn't see more of Stevie's solo on the guitar neck. It certainly would show why Santana still speaks of Stevie to this day...cause he's that damn good!!
