She was Annie when saw it on Broadway when I was 9... It was July 13, 1979.. I remember because we were having a heatwave and the temp at the bank outside the theater showed 86 degrees at 11p.. Anyway, I never forgot her and it has been interesting to watch her career from the beginning
OMG. her control, clarity, poise, and expression are astonishing. her pitch and tone were perfect, even through the repeating 4ths in the bridge "but that's not now, that's then" and the modulating triplet chords in "anything-anything-anything" at the end. OMG!
her belt/mix is so connected and healthy. perfect technique. also, for those wondering if she can still sing - she can. she had an arc on glee back in 2013 and she sang her cute little heart out, with beautiful technique in her late 40s. 💛
Wow she never changed. Always as cute and likable and somehow also relatable making the best of a not perfect situation never allowing herself to become cynical. What an interesting career
I've become of fan of her work because of SATC. I think she sings very professionally, with accuracy and excellent characterization. She had a leading role on the Broadway stage as a teenager for crissakes! She's good and followed her dream. She's an attractive woman and was a cute girl.
She downplays her singing ability now but I think she’s a wonderful singer. When she sang on shows like Letterman she couldn’t really hit those high notes anymore but she has lovely musicality.
@dftbapeep She started in Annie as an orphan and was moved up to Annie. This was before she was any sort of celeb. Watch Life After Tomorrow. The producers of this show were very strict about the Annies they put on Broadway. She sings this song perfectly.
I´m just blown away, she sings absolutely great, she is so cute, adorable and talented!I wonder if she is going to do broadway parts again?sarah jessica parker probably didn´t stop practising so she must be even better today!
I guess SJP didn't discover her fashion sense until much later. Then again, it was the early 1980s and perhaps this was the look (granny dress) that everyone was wearing. She does sing very well.
That's Allison Smith by the piano (played Annie longer than any other Annie in the original production of Annie and went on to Kate and Allie, The West Wing, and last week I saw her on Cold Case (playing the mother).
She was Annie on broadway when she was much younger than this, the girl who sings the one line with her was the CURRENT Annie on broadway at the time of this. She sounded amazing as a little girl singing this. Hahaha "The little girl sounds like she would sing it better" duh shes like 10 and the current annie on broadway, Sarah Jessica was Annie before the little girl there was :-p
Actually I wasn't raised in "the ghetto" thank you very much, and I don't care what your opinion is about my taste in music, I simply do not care for her voice. Now if you like her voice, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. You have no right criticize me about my opinions, I'm also entitled to my own. Thank you very much.
I think the problem that a lot of people have with her voice is that she has that "older singing style" that's sort of unheard of by now. She's actually a nice singer, but she definitely sings this as a "belt" style instead of going into her head voice. It's similar to the singing style of Wicked or other famous plays. She's using a "nasal" style.
