The highest compliment you can pay an artist is to recognize her as unique. Ms. Vaughan was totally unique and head and shoulders above any other vocalist I have ever heard.

I'm either an old cuss who just likes the good old days, or it's really true that today's music has no stuffing compared to this kind of artistry - I kind of groaned when I heard the bongos until she started weaving that Sassy magic into it and then like always I'm in heaven by the middle. There's just enough of her speaking voice mixed in with that velvet to make it like she's just singing to me. An enchanted voice from an immortal artist.

This is an interesting version-all punctuated with Sarah's lush tones, and the Latin band brings the masculine edge to it. Peggy Lee did it with understated gusto, and allowed for other artists to shift and bend it to their will.
Sarah breathed life into this song. Her vocal ups and downs make her sound like she really is delirious. However, this song really did not challenge her vocal skills.

Best version of this song is by Little Willie John. I think it was have been the original recording of this terrific song. It even tops Peggy Lee's version.
Nah your wrong. The original is by LITTLE WILLIE JOHN. That's the best version in my opinion. Peggy's version is the one that's most well known. Its her signature song BUT each version has its own merits. They were not amatures. I love the fact that Sarah's rendition is distinctive, and the latin groove for this arrangement is brilliant. I love it.

As a ballroom dancer, I've always adored Peggy Lee's as a great American style foxtrot. Now I've got an amazing cha cha with this one! /happily nerding out
