For some inexplicable reason I adore Madagascar 2. I like the first for nostalgia but I think it's terrible, and the third is unbearably dull and uninteresting to me, but for some reason the second one had me genuinely invested when I watched it last week, and I cannot figure out why

This episode, especially when they talked about drugs and depression resonated with me. I've been feeling down for a long time, a friend hooked me up with a dealer and I lost about a month to being constantly stoned. I ran out of money and had to pay latency fees and I had to quit smoking. I was already severely depressed and started a new medication (that has depression as a effect) Now Ii's all piling up on me and I'm fucking suicidal. I self harm, not because I want to but because I feel compelled to. I don't know why.

Regarding the substance use question: The first time I watched Dazed And Confused I was drunk out of my mind and I don't think I've related to characters in a movie more than right then.

Madagascar 3 was the first movie I saw in 3D and I think the only time I noticed that ever. But I can't remember anything about it except for one picture.

I really hope that the Hunchback of Notre Dame remake actually FIXES the VERY NOTICABLE flaws with the film. The HOND is the only classic Disney film I believe really deserves a remake, however I can just picture the film still with the Gargoyles, and comedic moments, and I get incredibly worried.

Just watched the first one with my sister and we consistently laughed during it but maybe because of how dumb we found it to be? or maybe the nostalgia of remembering how funny we found it as kids? I am not sure... all i know is that the penguins escaping from New York because they know they belong in Antarctica only to get there and then realize its a frozen wasteland made us laugh so hard because it's actually funny.

Beauty and the Beast is one of the first dark Disney remakes...? What about Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? Or The Huntsman (and awful sequels), Maleficent, The Jungle Book, etc.? I guess they're mostly reboots and spin-offs, but I'm surprised that those didn't put people off from the gritty re-do concept.

You mention how because Aladdin’s remake is not faithful to the original, that it’s only a money making machine. But Kubrick’s Shining film was not faithful to the book at all, and it is one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time!

22:50 animated films have it worst, IMO. Now they’re being voted by people who don’t even watch anything other than Disney. ElectricDragon and Cartoonbrew have published many articles of anonymous voters stating Japanese animation as being shit or something no one even gives a fuck about, to just saying shot like “my kids liked Ralph, so I’ll vote for it.” But this year it was different. But after this, Disney will keep on winning, no doubt. I’m not watching the oscars next year for sure. I just wanted spiderverse to win.

The Madagascar trilogy is very controversial because of its existentially challenging content and disturbing visuals, but there is a lot of political commentary underneath that people usually ignore, especially in the second one when Alex acts like a goof in front of the Africans, because of how society has depicted African culture. Truly challenging stuff.

I saw the Penguins movie Thanksgiving day after having a giant early dinner and went to one of those movie theatres with the reclining chairs. I fell asleep probably ten minutes in and woke up five minutes before the credits. 10/10

Well this episode was a trip, the first time around. Fell asleep to everybody railing on Disney and woke up to Adam talking about his coke problem. This is a pretty great podcast.

Madagascar 2 Escape from mort is an important, seminal film. First off, the emotion wow. The themes of racism hit hard (where something like black kkklansmen did not). First off, the love triangle between gloria, moto moto and melman is striking and honest. When melman (swimmer) finds gloria making out with moto moto his heart is crushed. Oh and we can’t forget about the penguins, who are back and just as epic as ever. The boss baby voices the villian, who steals a staff and manipulates the power hierarchy to become the Lion King. Alex finds his parents and has an emotional journey about identity, classism and family. Alex also can’t recognise which Marty is the real one. Overall, an admitted jump in quality from the previous Madagascar (which only received a harsh 9/10 from me, sorry Dreamworks 😬). Side note: has the same story as Kung Fu Panda 3 (A film I was very upset about so reviewed a scarring 8/10)
