*For True Naruto Fans* God This is one of things I love most about This show and it's writer.nIts all apart of Japanese culture. So Tsukyomi and Amaterasu are the names of two Japanese Gods. Tsukyomi being the God of the moon, which is kinda itonic seeing as how using Tsukyomi can cause eternal darkness for Itachi. Amaterasu is the Goddess of the Sun. Now as for why the flame are black. That's because Amaterasu was once kidnapped by A Giant 8 headed Snake known as YamatoNoOrochi.(aka oroçhimaru) Which lead Amaterasu's brother and other God Susanoo (the red thing that Itachi made, aka he with the power to achieve all things and God of storms) But while Amaterasu was kidnapped the sky was completely blacked out, hence the black flames. And finally During the battle between Susanoo and YamatoNoOrochi, Susanoo used 3 sacred weapons to win. Two we seen are used here one being called the Yata Mirror (the shield that Itachi uses) which can reflect and deflect anything that comes its way. And the other being the True Totsuka Blade a sword so strong it can Kill and Seal anything. Also during the fight a minor version of the Totsuka blade emerges from YamatoNoOrochi just like it does in this fight. I know that was a shit ton to read if you read it.

Itachi and Kimimaro both suffered from plot sickness, when you become too strong for your era in Naruto, you contract a mysterious illness that weakens you until you die. Itachi was literally too good for the world.
