There are indeed dark demonic forces in the entertainment industry, indeed all industries. However no music is evil. Music is a gift from God. The leaven is only in the lyrics. If the lyrics are evil, avoid it, if not, then embrace it, enjoy it. You all have ears and can make judgement for yourselves. That too is a gift from your Father God. All music is wonderful, just double check those lyrics people.

I love Pastor Bob and agree with him about 98% of the time, and probably more if I simply had a chance to just sit down and hang out! Haha! On this subject I would probably take his advice and add instead of take away from what Pastor Bob said. It's important for the young Christian to understand that listening and understanding ARE important, as Jesus did this,... but to HAVE DISCERNMENT, be careful from embracing and supporting, much less worshipping that which you hear. (Some of this comes down to simple stewardship, spiritually and financially). Bands can have a habit of becoming idols...I have worshipped them. I've also.seen many fellow Christian try to fit what they refuse to lay down into something that God somehow approves or even desires for us...which can be deceiving. "From out of our mouths flow our hearts" and much of what I grew up on, unfortunately preached a very destructive, anti-christ message. So while I will not tear down AC/DC or other people, I would exhort my brothers to be very careful about singing about being on the "Highway to Hell" or glamorizing sin...and to be sensitive to The Holy Spirit if He asks you to lay that, or really anything down that might grieve Him or end up causing you damage. Love you Pastor! Keep it up!

I haven't heard anything about Swaggert in a long time, but I thought last time I heard about him he had been greatly humbled by his own experience and was much more graceful.

Should Christians listen to secular music? That is a good question and a tough issue that cannot be answered easily with yes or no. If I say "yes, of course!", then I may be guilty of causing believers to stumble. If I say "no, it's a sin unto death!", then I may be guilty of adding to God's word (1 Corinthians 4:6, Revelation 22:18). So, is it profitable to listen to secular music? Well, not so much. Is it harmful? It depends. What we listen to does affect us and definitely matters more than what we eat. There are good and bad arguments from both sides. For the contra side we could use Romans 12:2, James 4:4 and 1 John 2:15, however, it is easy to see that they talk about the world's system and therefore cannot be used as a total proof. This of course is a matter of behavior and maturity. The question should rather be "is it a sin to listen to secular music"? Many have failed to define sin the right way. How does the Bible define sin? "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4 Christians are not under the law, at least not the ceremonical laws. Many Christians argue whether or not getting a tattoo was a sin, but I am sure it is because our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Is the same thing said about rather disputable matters, such as music? No, it is not, but it still can easily affect us, and that not necessarely in a positive way. Even though I would not call it a sin, but it can cause us to sin, since Jesus said "if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off". This does not speak of a literal hand, but of things in our daily life that could bring us away from God. Also, make sure that your children do not listen to songs that support what God hates! Since the Bible was written in the first century, there are no laws at all regarding such things, but we need to make sure what we do does not dishonor (1 Corinthians 10:33) and likewise, we must avoid causing others to stumble. Sos it a sin to listen to secular music? Not really, like with many other disputable matters, since Paul told us in 1 Corinthians 8:9-13 that it is OK to eat the meat that the pagans have sacrificed, but it can LEAD TO sin and make sure it does not take you that far. "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." James 1:13-15 So overall it is better not listen to it than to listen to it. However, it is more a matter of conscience according to Romans 14, but make sure you do not defile your conscience or cause others to stumble.

Music was made to praise God. We keep our eyes on Jesus. The other day I watched Britany SPEARS on RU-vid. That night I had terrible nightmares. When you hear someone repeat the same music or lyrics over and over, your mind dwells on that. Haven't you ever heard a song you don't like and you still nearly hear it in your head constantly? Oh, I hate THAT. When your mind dwells on God and Jesus, your taste changes you're a new creation. God Bless You through our Lord Jesus Christ.

dude right on! love and understanding, compassion! i have been teaching gods principles without always calling them that for people. they hear "god" and "jesus" and they just turn their ears off. God has me taking an approach where i reel them in with his true words and ideas...then once i have them on the boat I eventually reveal that it is Christ within. Its a crying shame what has happened because of language but all for good reason. The Bible doesn't say not to judge. It says judge ourselves and take care our issues. However, after that we have every right and responsibility as Christians to judge by the Holy spirit whether something is of God or not.

I prove these kinds of things wrong just by existing. I listen to Deicide and mostly modern death metal. Why? Because it's a technical masterpiece of instrumentation. I don't give 2 cents what they talk about because the music is THAT good. I'm not christian or anti, I'm just me. I have no typical long hair or tattoos and I don't smoke anything. I've had alcohol MAYBE 3 times and I'm 33. I'm nicer then any religious person I have EVER met. I don't have typical problems and I live a pretty simple life with my wife and 2 kids. No gods or kings, only man.

Hmmm ... I am wary of secular music. I think there are hidden messages that goes deep into your subconscious and affects your spirit. Hell ya, I will condemn alot of it too. But ... like you said, people gravitate to these musics because of hurt or pent up emotions, and we shouldn't condemn them, but LISTEN to them and meet them were they are. But then again, I think we ought to still educate folk about the bad lyrics in music promoting atheism, forbidden sex, crime, violence, egoism. Peace :)

No im not christian i am athiest but christians attack me for it constantly. when i go to shows religion is not a topic discussed. i dont attack religions only because i believe everybody needs to have faith in something. I have faith in my music. And i dont think that having faith in something that brings people together is wrong and refuse to think that its any better or worse than having a religion. My point is that its just music. Just like in the eyes of an athiest the bible is just a book.
