To get character endings, when you fight the monster on the credits, you have to knock the boxes off two pedestals, break them open, and throw the two pieces of Ehrgeiz into the beast.
Where's Red XIII? Where's Reeves (honestly his Cait Sith stunt was one of the coolest ideas for a character I had seen, wish he wasn't so annoying though)
Ehrgeiz is my favorite game there's an arcade near me that has it and nobody but me ever plays it I honestly expect that but I still love Ehrgeiz it feels so much better on a stick

I know that feel. I remember there was this game on the N64 where you played as some sort of mute Duke Nukem lookalike with a mullet. I can't even remember what it was called.
I remember as a kid, my brother had a friend he hung out with all the time and sometimes I'd get to hang with them as his friend would bring over these different games to play, commonly PS1. This introduced me to things like Azure Dreams, a couple Dragon Ball fighting games... and Ehrgeiz. But all I could remember from this game was it was some fighting game in an open arena and that one guy makes some crazy noise when he runs (which is that wrestler they were talking about). It took me until like last year to finally learn what it was called and play it for myself, and now it's back to haunt us again.
I can't get over the part when Woolie and Matt do the Sephiroth theme around the 28:33 mark. I must've replayed that part about 50 times now. I don't know why I love it so much.

Here is a true story regarding my first and only experience with this game about 2 years ago: When I first discovered this game existed, I was like, "a ps1 fighting game with FF7 characters, why haven't I heard of this before?" and I was kinda excited. I then d̶o̶w̶n̶l̶o̶a̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶I̶S̶O̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶b̶o̶o̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶P̶C̶S̶X̶ *obtained a legitimate physical copy* and played it on a *legitimate Playstation Computer Entertainment System*. As soon as I started fumbling through this game's menus I heard that awful godforsaken *EEEWYEHEHUUGGH* sound full blast in my headphones. I then realized why I had never heard of this game and I thought to myself, "God bless this piece of hot fucking garbage."

First time I played Ehrgeiz, I picked Cloud and made it 3/4 up the arcade ladder. This is someone who SUCKS at fighting games and had literally never heard of Ehrgeiz before. So yeah 10/10 perfect game the best.

DreamFactory made Kakuto Chojin on the original Xbox. I love that game and I asked SBF time and time again to play that game. They ended up playing it a few months before they broke up. thank you
Jeedy Jay I actually concur with that score. It wasn't THAT bad; especially since it was one of the first games on the PS2. I remember it had a bunch of branching pathways and...I think secret characters? Y'know what? You're fucking right. I'm not gonna be ashamed of liking that game. It was fine for its time.
Got past the title screen and my brain began to hurt; once the nosebleed subsided I thought it was the cancer come for me once and for all. Instead it was the darkest recesses of my mind unlocking, and the memories of childhood were too much. Now I sit here, alive and well, and can't help but think that maybe cancer would have been better.
Back in the PS1 and PS2 days, Squaresoft went nuts and made a game in every genre, most of them mediocre to bad. This is their mediocre-bad fighting game but you can play CLOUD vs SEPHIROTH in a FIGHTING GAME! Isn't it cool? Isn't it? ...C'mon
I very vaguely remember renting this from the local blockbuster as a kid. I thought it was the coolest thing because of the FFVII characters, I always had good memories of this and looked for it for years. And now I know why I only remember the guest characters. God bless the forgetfulness
I freaking love this game. Not only another interesting title with Square and FF characters, but a legit adventure mode better than Tekken Force mind you and it was like a Power Stone/ Tekken prototype hybrid. If it were to be revamped I promise you it would rival Dissida. This had to be the blueprint for that
Quan Chi & The Zero Issue Boys he's right if people knew how to play the game correctly. This game had a lot of combos and just frames to do. Most don't even know you can lock on to your opponent and move around smoothly. Instead many people choose to run and complain about the "bad controls". everybody was so used to the simple 2D fighting style games so this was way too new and could feel overwhelming because of that. The only issues to me were the wonky difficulties. Very hard was soft while in normal mode some characters fought brutally.
I just like how everyone takes it as a given that games like this are bad, without actually taking them seriously and just flailing at the CPU once or twice. It's disgusting.
They're not playing it right. You werent supposed to run around like crazy. I think you held down L1 or something to strafe and walk around , then run if you needed to (to avoid projectiles). And also you needed to learn Just Frame attacks..
Before Django Unchained.. there was.. EHRGIEZ. People can say whatever the hell they want about Ehrgiez, but a guy that worked on both Tekken AND Virtua fighter designed that shit. Namco AND Squaresoft put it together. The team went on to make .. the Bouncer.. and.. uh. Kakuto Chojin, but FUCK THAT look at THIS game. Kouhatsu still has weekly tournaments for this. HYPE UNFATHOMABLE.
I think a lot of the scorn directed at this game comes from embarrassment over being lured in by the guest characters. The cat is out of the bag on FF7 being the "basic bitch" JRPG, and all the cool kids are distancing themselves from the not-genuinely-excellent stuff they used to love by hating on it.
I appreciate Japan's persistence in trying to come up with interesting and original names for their games though, even if some of them end up hilariously convoluted like fucking ArcSys games. But at the end of the day Call of Duty: Modern Fighting just doesn't have the same ring to it as something like Ehrgeiz.
