I agree Richard. The rifle isn't performing as good as it should. Also the ammunition does not seem to be very reliable. 5 or 6 duds in less the a full box of 50.

The ammo is about 10 years old, I bought it when I bought my Bmag, but it's been stored in a cool dry place. The amount I had to adjust it to even get it on paper, is way too much. Thanks for watching!

I've had an accuracy issue with a Savage 17hmr in bolt action in the past, where it drove tacks but had 1" flyer every 5-6 shots. In my case it was very poorly headspaced, and cleared up after I removed the barrel and set it properly. Not sure if that the case here, but best of luck in getting it figured out!

I knew this was being offered but didn't realize it was released. I have a couple B-mags and really like this cartridges preformance on game. One o my rifles loves 20's and the other 25's BOTH well under 1" 100yard groups. I also have a Savage Auto in WMR that shoots 50g right @ 1". All tbree put the smack down on our large Coyotes called in close. Im gonna look for one of these autos!! ❤❤ Thanks for the Video. I ALWAYS used ta but ADJ OBJ scopes for my RF rifles. Finally got the Savage A17 in 17WSM. scoped it with a Vortex and using American eagle ammo. No problems sighting it in. I did have to get couple of new mags as they are different than a B mag for this rifle. had a problem getting the cap to stay in place where U clean the rifle but so far Rifle is a straight shooter.

Your response has me itching to hit the range with mine for the first time. I just got the barrel back from getting threaded. I installed a Salmon River Solutions 4” SRS arca rail and have the glass bed job curing right now. What kind of groups did you get with your setup? Also, how much did the extra mags cost? I plan to call Savage again tomorrow to check availability.

@@jaymoore4696 My groups at 50 yards were within a 2c cent piece with five rounds. If I remember I bought 3 more mags and I think with shipping was maybe $107.00 or close to that. I highly recommend Federal American eagle. Have tried them all and American eagle has less misfires and pretty darn accurate. I presently waiting for the Winchester Xpert that is suppose to be out in December in 17 WSM

100% Agree about the Winchester Ammo. I believe that’s why Volquartsen stopped making the semi WSM, it wouldn’t meet the 1/4” or 1/2” MOA. Now that these finally came out, Hornady, Browning (Winchester),American Eagle (Federal), & the Winchester stuff. Hopefully CCI will make some too. Might try the lead free stuff in 17gr, or the 20gr & 25gr too. I guess I got lucky my A22 WMR & A17 HMR shoot very well.

I'm really interested in getting one of these, but here in New Zealand it can take 10+ months for new stuff to make its way here through distributors, and that's if US demand doesn't soak up stock levels first, so I might try a B-mag in this caliber since I can get one of those right now. In regards to accuracy, (I've watched this clip in its entirety as well as the initial review), I don't agree with what you are saying in regards to scope alignment. I believe that would not affect group size, unless the scope or rings are loose or poorly fitted. What I DO see, (& I say with respect), is a classic case of bench shooting with a sledge, where you are sitting with your body position too far to the left of your rifle, in an obviously awkward position. Putting too much faith in a sledge / vice tends to lead a shooter to be a bit too loose in some aspects, in particular, not being able to comfortably sit directly behind the rifle. Your bench design / shape may be contributing to that to some degree too. The classic negative effect of a right handed shooters body position being too far to the left of the rifle, is that the rifle recoil will cause muzzle jump up and to the right. I know that recoil in this caliber is minimal compared to a center fire, but that step up from 22lr or 17hmr, might be enough for the effects to be THAT much more pronounced, whereas the lighter calibers may have been more forgiving. It fits my thinking, that the resulting error is predominantly compounding at longer range... Personally, I had issues with being too "square" in my body position, and had the opposite effect, of recoil jump up and to the left with my .243. I got my head around that and tidied my shooting form and process up, and I have been shooting red deer with it, and putting it exactly where I intended, right out to my furthest shot to date, 523y. Last 5 or so deer have been down on the spot with .243, and all were at least 250y. I also shoot hares and rabbits out to 100y+ with a Brno(CZ) 22lr and CCI stingers. Before you send it back to Savage, I'd suggest you try shooting it prone with a bipod and rear bag, and make sure your body position is directly behind the rifle. A couple other pointers that worked WONDERS(!!!) for me, which may also help are: 1: Remember to follow through with your process - just like a golf swing, what you do as a follow through AFTER striking the ball, in terms of the mental process regarding form and technique, is what holds the entire process accountable. Make your trigger squeeze more controlled, and follow through with your trigger pull AFTER the shot as you retain sight picture. Don't release the trigger so quickly. Thats a BIG one. 2: Try keeping both eyes open. Squinting your left eye so tightly actually has the subconsciously negative effect of making you more prone to blinking, or worse, flinching. 3: If you try prone with a bipod, don't forward load the bipod. That forward pressure is hard to replicate, (accuracy is consistency), and even stiff chassis' will transfer some of that force to the front action screw which affects harmonics. Instead, let the rifle sit with stock on a rear bag, and "shimmy" your body up till your shoulder is snug to the butstock, using your left elbow as leverage, and your left hand to give some pressure of the stock (& rear bag control) back towards the shoulder. Also, while using this technique, keep your shooting hand thumb loose, and make your trigger pull more like you are using the trigger to (very gently) add direct pressure through the trigger, along the stock, and directly into your shoulder. That will make your trigger pull with FAR more ALIGNED pressure, in comparison with a technique that includes thumb pressure and inadvertently causes your trigger finger to squeeze back towards your index knuckle, and therefore less aligned with the trigger mechanism. All of those things have worked a miracle for me, but I also know that technique wise, it may not be as suitable for larger magnum centerfire calibers, and I'll address that if I ever step up. But for now, .243 is my big gun, and all of those points have got my shooting to where, as long as I know the range and its sub 500y, I'm putting it within 3 - 4 inches of where I want it, every time. Anyway, love the content and the passion, so I'm going to subscribe. Looking forward to more content from you! Cheers, Tim

I usually reply to comments right away, but I've read this one several times. I've thought about it quite a bit. The reason I was thinking the misalignment between the bore and the scope may have been an issue, is because another viewer said he had a similar issue, and that the scope didn't seem to hold zero because of such drastic adjustments. I have also never had another rifle that required that much adjustment when zeroing. I'm sure the bases, rings and scope are firmly attached to the rifle. I did use a torque driver when tightening everything down. The reason I read this several times is because everything you said makes perfect sense. I do find myself getting a little sloppy with my technique from time to time. I also find myself relying on the hydrosled to make up for some of my inadequacies. Some of the best shots I've ever made were at 300yds, from sandbags, and being really comfortable while doing it. I will take into consideration everything you said and give it another try. I would also recommend the B-Mag. I love semi-auto rifles, but with the price and scarcity of .17WSM ammo, the B-Mag will slow you down just a bit. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

@@SmallCaliberArmsReviewHere's the process I developed for myself over the years since, and applies to EVERY new rifle I buy: 1: Remove action from stock and check fitment. 2: Refit stock making sure action is bedding with some hand pressure towards the rear to make sure recoil lug has good contact on the back side. 3: Always start torquing the rear action screw first, and initially only torque both to 10ftlb. 4: With only 10ftlb on action screws, hold the rifle by the stock fore end, and bump the butt on the ground half a dozen times. Not too hard obviously, but hard enough to give any fitment "bias" back to the recoil lug and the rear of the action. 5: Torque action screws to desired setting, but in 10ftlb increments, always stepping up with the rear screw first. I learned the hard way, that tighter is definitely not better. I have come to settle on 45ftlb as my go to, for initial fitments. 6: Fit scope. 7: Test bolt function. 8: Make it go bang. That's my process, and haven't had to return a rifle since. If it's not acceptable after that, I know it really does need to go back. If it's acceptable but could still be better, then I'll look at bedding, muzzle device, or torque settings on the action screws. Without having had to worry about that too much yet, I'd say my minimum would be 40ftlb on the action screws, and I'd go up in 5ftlb increments as I tested at the range, (to a max of maybe 55ftlb for a standard wood stock, 60ftlb for a pillar bedded stock, and 65ftlb for an alloy chassis). You'd be surprised how much difference that might make. Almost the same process as reloading and testing your own loads to find the "node" your rifle likes. I have been mulling over the idea of your particular rifle being misaligned too. That would mean that the scope mount rails were out of alignment, or headspace is skewed due to poor barrel fitment. It might be worth checking a savage barrel fitment vid to get your mind around that. Even if putting trust in so called professionals to do that stuff, its well worth understanding the whole process so that you can move forward with a more holistic understanding of "rifle science". It's interesting me enough (I love this shit, can you tell? 🤓), that I'm going to do a bit of research on savage barrel fitment. I'll come back here with anything I find that may be pertinent 😉

Also, have you looked into stock issues? My Bmag had several issues. Fliers like everyone else complained of, also the cock on close bolt malfunctions a lot. Had to take the stock off mine and bed it with epoxy. Once i did that, cleaned up all flier issue, shoots very accurately to about 400 (with no wind present).
